I would like to know which items do you never use or find useless by the time you get it?

There's my list (I will add things as others remember me items that I agree with their uselessness)

ITEMS

Dried Meat - If it wasn't for Gau... It should have been a rare item...
Rename Card - I often put standards names
Super Ball - Too random, not very damaging
Warp Stone - I use Smoke Bomb (very rarely), L+R or Warp magic instead because Warp Stone is more expensive
X-Potion, X-Ether, Megalixir - I use Elixirs, Inn, Tents or Sleeping Bag instead

WEAPONS

Brushes (except maybe Rainbow Brush) - Not very powerful and doesn't even raise sketch rate
Dice and Fixed Dice - Too random
Dirk - Too useless
Ogre Nix - Not the best, no super boosts and it's break!
Ragnarok - Always exchanged for Illumina
Soul Sabre - Drains only a few MP, so...

HELMETS

Hair Band - Too useless, in the same wepon shop, there's a better helmet
Magus Hat - Same reason

ARMORS

Czarina Gown - Same reason (and only Relm can wear it)
Mirage Vest - Not enough defense

RELICS

Back Guard and Gale Hairpin - Heu... not very useful
Charm Bangle - If there are still monsters... useless
Coin Toss - I don't use Setzer very much
Cursed Ring - No boost, just Comdemned status
Gauntlet - Because gengi glove much better, but I use gengi glove patch, so...
Pod Bracelet - I already have Marvel shoes by the time I get it
Sprint Shoes - I use Fast Forward function and/or Sprint shoes and Mega Sprint shoes game genie codes
True Knight - Does anybody use this?

More to be added...

That would be a long list for me, and since I have to get going I will start (and edit later) with the tintinabar. I never use it.

1. X-Potions and Megalixirs: I always save them for the extremely hard battles that never materialize in FFVI. It's an old habit from playing through the game for the first time with any RPG. You never know when you'll find yourself fighting some insanely hard monster where you gotta give it everything you got to win. I do use regular Elixirs occasionally when I'm out of Ethers and need to give a character MP fast (before it's possible to teach every character Osmose).

2. All the weapons and armor that never equip when selecting optimize on the equip screen due to something with higher defense or battle power being available (except the Atma Weapon).

3. Cheesy relics like the Peace Ring, except for when I need brief specific protection from an ailment that one of these items offer protection against.

4. Smoke Bomb, Super Ball, Rename Card, Gauntlet, Coin Toss, Cursed Ring, Moogle Charm, Sniper Sight: No use for these things.

#1: Elixers, x-potions ect, for more or less the same reason that i90east doesn't. I only ever used them once when I was greiviously inexperienced, fighting Kefka in Narshe, and that was after I had depleated all my potions, tonics and tintinctures.

#2: Relics that cast wall, shell, safe ect. I know this is probably a dumb thing to do, but wall always backfired on me, save for the battle with the Atma Weapon, and the other status effects I was never patient/wise enough to figure out what they did.

#3: The Heal Rod. It took me FOREVER to figure out why Straggo was curing enemies, and when I did, I was so pissed I decided to never equipt it again.

#4: Sniper Sight: It was so rare that my charecters would ever miss, that it just wasn't worth taking up a relic slot.

2. ANY Potion-series items: I always used magic.
3. FakeMoustache: A least with sketch you can get dumploads of items....

An obvious one: Goggles (The Goggles! They do nothing! tongue.gif) As far as I know, obtaining Lores for Strago is the only time the darkness status actually matters, and I rarely even use Strago.

In the same vein; Eye Drops. I like all my characters wearin' cool shades.

Others: Cursed Ring, Sniper Sight, Coin Toss, Heal Rod, Super Ball, Rename Card, any equipment/armor specifically for Relm, Sleeping Bags (I only use Tents), any curative items that are eventually outdone by magic spells, yadda, yadda, yadda, etc.

Man, why do you guys hate the heal rod so much? By the time you get strago, he'll be able to heal 1000+ hp per hit to one of your allies, which is a nice little perk... its stronger than your strongest cure spell wink.gif

Things I never equip:

Imp equipment, most items that randomly dispatch enemies (since there are so many enemies in the game with the undead status, it kinda ruins it), relics that protect vs status ailments (except ribbon, and in the odd circumstance the amulet for the phoenix cave), true knight, and brushes.

well most of the items you named i DO use like true knight and tintinabar. you also stated that you used game genie, yes? of corse you wouldnt use some of those items if you use cheats. and the megalixers, i save those for the final kefka battle. im not sure but i think the cursed ring has the same effect as the cursed shield
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
turns into paladin shield
. oh well....thats my two cents.

Yes. Upon fighting 256 battles with it equipped, it will become the Paladin Mallet, which in turn can be used to beat a dead horse.

No.

Horribly off topic, but did else anyone notice how Djibriel went from being just a stat spouting FFVI expert to a witty and cynical forumer of great acclaim?

Oh. um.... I never use Beads.

LOL @ Djibriel...

I never use heal potions.

I do, however, LOVE the fixed dice.

Same with i90 on the megaelixirs, etc. I was sort of the same with magic, like I would never use magic, thus, leading me to never use ethers.

Sprint shoes, and any ststus curing items other than remedies and revivifies. Even in the beginning of the game I found green cherries to be a waste of time. (Should have fed them to Umaro tongue.gif )

I agree that curatives items are pretty useless early in the game because magic is there for us. But it would have been more useful if Remedy (item and magic) would have come later in the game...

How about that relic ring. Are there ANY cool tricks with it, besides doom completely healing the person wearing it?

I always found True Knight, Sniper Sight, Goggles, Beads, Rename Card, Relic Ring, Super Ball, and Gauntlet to be useless. I never used any Megalixirs, Elixirs, X-Potions, or X-Ethers because I thought they were too good and I wanted to save them. A few people have said they don't use Coin Toss. I use it all the time, and it's really good for multiple enemies.

Sabin37, you are the first person *ever* that said that GP Rain was actually usefull in this game. It's slightly reasonable against two enemies is some parts of the game, but against more or against a single enemy you quickly discover that Sqaure took the hard left from GP Rain's usefullness in FF V.

As for me, I like to keep the challenge a little, meaning I hardly ever equip Shields of any kind, use Marvel Shoes, etc. Super Ball is an item I forget all the time due to the fact you have to buy them in order to see them (unless you get lucky in Owzer's Mansion), and the actually usesless items other people have mentioned never find a spot in my team either.

Gauntlet is quite good on Umaro, and the Relic Ring helps if you know the enemy is likely to cast Doom.

Weapons:
Rising Sun, Bone Club (except the one Umaro has), Trump, Dice, Dirk, Imp Halberd, Break Blade, any kind of Rods, any kind of Spears

Helmets:
Bandana, Red Cap, Hair Band

Relics:
Goggles, Beads, Relic Ring, Moogle Charm (I find it wrong to avoid random encounters), Charm Bangle, Crystal Orb, Muscle Belt (giving these to the last two dragons--what were they thinking?), Cherub Down (except maybe against the Dirt Dragon), Gold Hairpin (Economizers are not too hard to get), Coin Toss, Cursed Ring.

Items:
Elixirs, Megalixirs, X-Potion, X-Ethers, Ethers (I seldom use much magic), Tents, Sleeping Bags (only in the early game, and only if I'm really desperate), Remedies (I would equip and then unequip a Relic to remove the ailment before I would use an item).

Armors:
lots... I just can't remember right now.
