those spaces are for shifting characters around. the screen is never filled completely. it is an extra spot to put people in you party thats it ive tried evey rumor involving a secret character and you CANT get leo of gestahl OR kefka and you defiantely cant have the esper ragnarock and the sword at the same time (unless you get it at the colloseum)
