So, I was playing FFVI on my emulator, and I'm fighting in the colluseum to get Merit Awards, Marvel Shoes, ect. I'm getting rather pissed off at how much my fighters cast remedy on themselves the first turn of battle, how they try to cast life on themselves, how they cast reflect on themselves and then attempt to cast cure 3 on themselves, in effect, healing the opponent.

Anyway, I had uncursed the shield, and Locke had just learned Ultima (from the Shield, because I took the Sword). And I had thought to my self, what if one of my characters would only use Ultima in the arena. Then I remebered Edgar. Good ole' Edgar had never once so much as touched a piece of Magicite. He had no magics whatsoever. So it had occured to me that it was my civic duty to turn him into a badass colluseum fighter.

So of course I slapped on a Paladin Shield and had him learn Ultima. Although Flare might have been just as good (or close anyway), Ultima is just a pretty cool attack.

Now how do you make this Badass complete? Throw on the Illumina, Paladin Shield, Genji Helm and Armor, An Economizer and a Gem Box, Get rid of all his tools, and now look at him. All he does is smacks fools with his Illumina, and casts a ton of Ultimas. After that, I renamed Edgar to Ultima, in celebration of this awesome power. All thanks to the fact that I unconciously decided to ignore Edgar. Aint life grand?

I did something similar to that only it was with mog. I made him the ultimate Kappa Fighter. Full Imp Armor with a Genji Glove. I renamed him Kappa.

The ultimate Kappa would still have DragoonBoots and a Dragon Horn, though, unless you're going for a lvl. 99 game where naturally GG/Offering will do superior damage to anything.

That's a good idea, using Edgar w/o magic!!

I usually use Mog, just because he could wear Snow Muffler & evade a lot of attacks, but sometimes he would do dances and the battle would take a long time ...

For my colloseum fighter, I prefer to use the following setup:
Locke equipped with Atma weapon (or Illumina, if I want to exploit the mblock bug), Paladin Shield, Genji Helmet, and Force armor, with the Thief Glove and Offering relics. I prefer to only teach him ultima (through the shield, naturally) so that his commands are fightx4, capturex4, Ultima, or item. For enemies with instant death attacks, I switch out his thief glove for a safety bit. Sure he'll try to steal every once in a while, but at least he'll stay alive.

My ultimate colluseum fighter is anyone who is level 99 and can equip the Atma Weapon, Illumina, Genji Glove and Offering. If they randomly choose fight with those weapons equipped, the enemy is almost guaranteed to die. I've even killed Chupon with this setup. smile.gif

I ususally use Umaro with an offering, rage ring, or zepher cape. Ether Umaro, or Locke who I have been leveling up with only Odin! He's heli-fast.

When I made Ultima, Edgar was only level 40 I believe. Plenty strong to take out most colluseum fighters in one turn.

I'm with you, SMB. Umaro dominates the Colosseum! Not only can he not waste turns by using pointless magic spells or using items, but he's crazy strong (at least in my game he was).
