A few of you have e-mailed us about the recurring problem with the forums, where a white screen appears instead of the proper forum page, with some SQL and a response "error 28 from table handler".

This is caused by the configuration of our Web host allowing the disk to fill up. We're told that this occurs when other users of the hosting provider use the site backup option in their control panel. We're also told that it won't be disabled, because it would be inconvenient for users not to be able to back up their sites.

Apparently it's not at all inconvenient that users can't use their site much of the time...

Anyway, rest assured that we'll be badgering the host incessantly about sorting this out, or they'll be losing our business before too long. In the mean time, please do keep letting us know when the error occurs, so that we can track how serious the problem is (although obviously it's better that not every member e-mails us: perhaps the folks in chat at the time could arrange for one person to send the e-mail). Keep the subject line "SQL Error" (change the '+' in the default subject to a space, if it's there) so we can filter the messages nicely.

Thanks for your patience, folks.

Yeah, I had that happen, but figured it was a problem with my college's computers.

Thanks for badgering on behalf of all of us here. Not knowing much about CPU's I still assume there's a way around fixing that problem that the host could be trying for us. Am I right computer-people?

We sure think so. But as of yet, the host has been a bit reticent about taking the steps to do so. I have asked for a permanent fix and should I get no response I intend to go to the CEO of the hosting company.

It just happened to me right now when I tried to get to the forums from my favorites, I just went to the CON main site and clicked on the forum link from there.

Same here. This is the 5th time it's happened to me, though. I'll be sure to send you some emails when I run into this again.

Btw, thanks for clearing this up. I appreciate it!

Same here... I got it the night before last when I went to a specific thread and tried to post, then when I tried to post again it gave me some type of error screen, but as most of you know, I'm computer stupid so I just thought it was my browser.

Funny, posts with random, pointless swearing seem to give me less reason to fix it.

I haven't gotten any confirmed reports of outages since Sunday. If you people are getting the errors, send the bloody email like we asked you.
