I'm nearing the end of the game and I like to complete as much as possible and I have some questions regarding Shadow's 7 flashbacks. I've already seen several (wish I kept a record, but it was before I knew what was going on) and I would like to get all 7 if possible. I was wondering if anyone (especially those that have played through several times) could clear up some thoughts I've had and haven't been able to find on the net thus far.
  1. Can all flashbacks be received in the World of Ruin, or is it a combination that has to be received between both worlds?
  2. Are the flashbacks each related with a specific town/inn, or can the same flashback be seen at different locations?
  3. Can more than one flashback be seen at the same location, or is it only 1 per inn?
  4. Are the flashbacks presented in the same order each playthrough, or along with question 2. is it dependent on the town/inn?
  5. Does anyone have information on how and where to collect each of the 7 flashbacks?

This is what i can tell you to the extent of my knowledge on the subject...

1) I dont know about both worlds, but i saw the ones i did in the WoR

2) You can only see each flashback once during a playthrough...ro repeats im sorry to say.

3) Apparently you can see all of them in almost one place multiple times (allthough i believe one has to be in mobliz and one in Doma). I however was not able to achieve this.

4) It is not dependant on the town, but i believe they are in a random order, since i saw them in a different order than my friend did.

5) BTW...you cannot get all 7 in one run. All the flashbacks, as you know, require shadow, but one requires Relm in the WoR, so depending on whether you saved shadow will net you the special 7th skit (but ill see if another member can elaborate on this, its been a while since i got it). Basically, the 7th depends on whether you saved shadow or not.

After a bit more research I discovered a bit more on the subject including the FAQ on this site (I wish I had read it first, it answered some questions).

If anyone's interested I found a nice page with the 5 main videos: Shadow's Dreams
They can also all be found at youtube.com as well as Relm's Dream (not sure about the dialog on this video as it differs slightly from what I've seen elsewhere).

That accounts for 6 dreams. What is the 7th you refer to? According to the FAQ and other places I've looked it seems that the 7th often gets confused with Cyan's Dream subquest. Is this what you are referring to as well, or does anyone know of another?

The FAQ here states that there is no impact on the ending whether you view all the scenes available or not. I have however read that at the end of the game depending on if you've collected them all or not that Shadow will commit suicide or continue his ways if you don't see them all, and that there is a different ending if you see them all in which he will decide to stay with Relm or some dialog that leads you to believe this. Has anyone seen both endings if they do exist, or is this just a rumor?

Also from the FAQ it appears that the 5th dream is dependent upon time and place. Outside of the 5th do the other 4 always occur in ordered sequence?

As far as I know, there are only six dreams of Shadows. There's one that Relm has if Shadow isn't saved on the Floating Continent, but one dream if you get Shadow in the WoR.

If you have Shadow in your party at the end of the game, the ending will always be the same. You can think what you want about what he says, but it never changes. It's only a rumor.

Ok, so yesterday evening I got Shadow's #3 and #4 dreams. So I believe I've got all now that I can. This is what I've concluded:
  1. Shadow has 5 dreams.
  2. Relm's dream is considered #6.
  3. Dreams #5 and #6 share the timed event in Thamasa. If you saved Shadow #5 executes, If you didn't save Shadow #6 executes in it's place.
  4. What is referred to as Shadow's 7th dream is actually confused with either Cyan's Dream subquest or the scene known as the "Coin Toss".
