A few months ago, there were several people at CoN concerned with the Possess ability, and one of the questions that came to light was why exactly Possess sometimes missed even when ZED's Attack Guide lists it as being unblockable. The answer wasn't available then.
Thanks to my new and improved hacking skills, I've been able to look at Possess and what it does. Here's the catch. ZED does not lie when he sais that Possess always hits. It never really misses. However, hardcoded in its special ability which grants it the power to dispatch the target, remove the user from battle and finally removing it from the party permanentaly, lies the answer. Special ability #50 which is used by Possess will do nothing 50 % of the time. Half of the time it will work, and half of the time it will hit the target with absolutely nothing, looking like it missed. So there you have the results of Djibriel's first hardcode observation so far and the answer to that burning question that consumed your daily life until this day. I can't say I've missed with Possess, but I'm glad that the riddle is finally solved. Congrats on your first hard-coded observation, Djibriel! If only I had the time/initiative to learn ASM...

Yaeh, great job, Dji. I like your observations, though I really didn't care for the Possess riddle too much.

Oh, most things have been found (most gameplay-relevant anyway), but since Possess was not listed in the Algorithm FAQ and only incompletely in the Attack Guide, I figured this had to be a rare miss so far. If you were hoping for a secret event nobody ever knew of so far, I'm gonna have to dissapoint you.

I haven't a clue what this Posess ability is all about. I'll just pretend.

you don't know what posses is? Even I know what that is and I'm the biggest
sorry if I sound like a bully Moderator Edit Please try to stay on topic. It would have been pretty much fine if you told him what Possess did. -Tom This post has been edited by FraudulentTommah on 4th August 2004 00:44 -------------------- They may be monsters, but they're sea monsters. The effect is this: Possess removes the user from battle, and kills the target automatically. Rather useful in quite a few situations (high HP, enemies, low HP party).

Is the ability, by any chance, available outside the Ghost Train at any given point?

Good luck prying the Hyper Wrist from the Specter you fight on the train if you don't use Possess... I just took a ghost from the previous car and got it no problem. You don't fight every ghost on the phantom train. Some offer to join you, others are merchants, 2 feed you, and the others are hostile.
