Hey, sorry if I missed some announcement or something, but CoN used to have a cool quiz every week (month?) on FF4 and 6, but it's disappeared since. Ever think of bringing it back? If it's hard to find enough questions, why not make it FF5 only in the meantime, as you've never had an FF5 quiz?

They took it down 'cause they couldn't handle the upkeep, what with real life and all the other things they had to start handing with the site.

It MIGHT return in the future, just not any time soon. :-/

Yea.... our trivia threads have kinda replaced it anyway. The quizes were fun, but I'm sure they took alot out of the Mods too. sad.gif

It was once per month, and we had FF5 quizzes for the last two months. If it comes back, it won't be in the same format where we have to think of new questions every month.

How about delegating it to someone, then, to take the pressure off of the Mods? You could give full admin rights to the person just for that one topic, so they would be the Mod of that thread, but nothing else.

We do have trivia threads all over the place already, but a set, standardized one would be great. Rules could be better enforced... everything would just work smoother. The person posting the question would be required to PM the answer to the Mod, so if someone answered it correctly we wouldn't have to wait to hear if it was right from the one who asked it, since the Mod would check it every day...

That's my two cents on the subject.

It wasn't a thread, but a whole site section that tracked scores and was terribly clever, except that we had to think of ten questions every month. After running it for about six months, we ran pretty dry. We do plan to redo it sometime, though, but more likely drawing from a pool of questions rather than having a specific set every month.

(And I'd like to make it a bit clever than multi-choice from four answers, too. But it's all a future project.)

As for the forums, we can't grant permissions on specific threads, and I doubt we'd find anyone who'd commit to such a task long term even if we could. If there's a problem with people bending the rules in trivia threads, you can always use the Report Post button, and hopefully someone will get to it quickly.

We do wish people wouldn't keep posting so many trivia topics, though. Riddles is good, and the per-game ones aren't bad, but other than that we could do with fewer.

That sounds really cool. I would like to have seen how that worked...

Ten questions a month is a bit much for anybody. No wonder you guys got burned out on it so fast! The pooling idea would work very well, I think. It would take the pressure off of all of the Mods, and at the same time give you access to a huge knowledgebase outside of your group. You could also build up a surplus of trivia questions from the ones that didn't quiet make the cut. From one request for trivia questions you could potentially get enough responses to fuel two or three months worth of trivia.

I'm particularly interested in the rankings/scores for the people who participated. Did CoN give out prizes (custom screensavers or wallpaper or something) for the top scorer each month?

*raises hand* I'd be happy to, if it ever gets revitalized and you don't find someone more qualified.

Interesting, but I'm on CoN so sporadically that I'd probably miss out on them.

Checked out the scores page... wasn't the least bit surprised to see Master ZED at the top of the list, either. happy.gif Thanks for posting it, Tiddles.
It said on the page that the scores were from a times quiz.... was that programmed by one of you Mods? Sounds like something done in javascript or sometying.

Anyway, I would love to see4it resurrected, but I'm starting to imagine the heaqache thut something like that entails.

It was timed by the site, so no way to cheat it by fiddling with JavaScript on the client side. When you started a quiz, the system logged the time. It did so again when you submitted the answers, and the difference was how long it took. So if you looked at the questions, researched them and came back, your time got hurt. smile.gif

Hmm, it seems that I missed out. I would like to see a quiz again, even if it was a one-time event to honor the long lost legacy of the older ones. Heck, I'd be willing to come up with some nice questions for them, but it seems like the chances are slim that the quiz will be ressurected anyway.
