I dont know... the way the current games are, I doubt it. Square isnt even TRYING now, just churning out game after game after game. I think the FF's stopped being good after 7.

Final Fantasy XI is a wonderful game and I hope it reflects the amount of care and awesomeness future games will have. Though they don't need to make more MMORPG's, one is enough.

If they weren't trying they wouldn't be experimenting with new things like voice acting, MMORPG, etc. If they kept churning out the same stuff that's already been done, they'd go down much sooner.

Its all aimed at people buying it cos it looks great whilst the diehards are getting shafted. Enought about Games Workshop, though, lets talk about Squenix... although I suppose that applies for the Japanese Company as well as the Nottingham..ese one.
Innovation's great, and sure, with them fancy graphics, and that voice-actin' bumph, its a nicer thing ter look at... But that means feck all and a wee bit if the characters and plot are as becoming as lame as a donkey tapdancing in a minefeild is soon to be. Tedious Clones Must Die! Its a trend: lead character is blond, looks like a poster boy for the BNP, cheeky, and you want to kill him for the reasons that not only is he annoying (10 on the prickter scale), he manages to get the female lead (who invariably looks cute) degenerate to nothing more than either the damsel in distress or the one who uses cure magic all the time (as opposed to blowing everythings' kneecaps off like in real life). Its coming right for us, look at 12: Is it a bird? Is it a clothing shortage Is it a bunch of rejects from the village people? No, its the lead character from the next game! In short, we want character to our character. 'S. Or else. Or Else what? why its simple: FF will last till about 2007. And certainly no more MMORPGS! Square-Enix are trying. Very Trying indeed... -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

I could see themasticking with the FF label for a while, ebut they're in the process of seriously diluting iteby attawhing it to junk. Once people stop associating "Final Fantasy" with a particular kindaof game, they'll switch to something more advantageous.

The FF series has to end sometime, but I hate to think that the FF series might end even if it lives until I'm an' old person...
I'm not sure, but maybe FF might end at 13... Well... I remember back when they were saying that they would stop making FFs at FF X. Since there is already XI, and XII is in the making that obviously didn't hold up to well... but like some of you said, they are trying new things I.E. MMORPGs, and story that is based around voices rather than text, so I think it will last for quite a long time from now unless people start ignoring the series because they screw up really bad while making the next few.

It needs a serious makeover. The voice overs are great and all, but an incredibly painful pain in the ass. Reading dialogue doesn't hurt. Let the gamers work a bit!! No more cliched characters in different surroundings. Do all that and then maybe combine the old with the new, sorta like what they did with FFIX, only a hell of a lot better. They should get something workable then.

After FFX-2 which I honestly think was a disopointment I don't think FF will last forever, expecially if they keep making games like that, I think the days of simple storylines and strong gameplay from them is gone, its more about the graphics and I think FF is losing its true fantasy spirit. We will just have to wait for FFXII to find out if the series can redeem itself.

The only best ff's they had, im sad to say, were 1-6, with some good elements in 7, 9, and 10.
Heres a quick thing to think about though: What if they DID go back to simple gameplay, storylines, and even, dare i say it, SNES graphics for fun!!!! It's not a question of quality. It's a name; people will buy the game because it is a Final Fantasy game. Everybody's always talking about how lame the newest song of Britney Spears or the latest disaster movie is, but they keep attracting crowd and they will always be made.
I'm guessing that Final Fantasy will stop when civilization as we know it ceases to exist, although they might change the name in order to avoid calling their latest release Final Fantasy MMCII-2 -------------------- |

I see FF games lasting as long as the other main staple games out there like Mario, Zelda, Sonic, etc.

In my opinion FF may last unitl its 20's or possibly thirties, or just when they go Bankrupt (which Could Happen). I think FF may last for quite a while or unitl video games become extinct.

I bet bought by another company is more likely than bankrupt, and that they change the name of the series by the time they get into higher numbers. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Quote (Djibriel @ 9th July 2004 21:12) although they might change the name in order to avoid calling their latest release Final Fantasy MMCII-2 Hey, I'm all for FF two thousand one hundred and two dash two Seriously though, as long as they don't pull another FF8 on us, I imagine the series lasting an uber long time. If it gets up to the thirties or something, then they can always discontinue the numbers (Tactics or Cyrstal Chronicles anyone?). Not to start another topic here and now, but I think there are still tons of other places the series can go that square has barely touched on yet. -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |
