So I decided to poke through CoN's FFIV section to see if I could find anything wrong (again, actually).
I only looked at the IIus pages, since I haven't played Chronicles. Character Profiles include abilities not in IIus. White is Holy-elemental Weak only works on one target Asura doesn't cast protect in IIus PSX magic list does not include Shell, Protect, and Dispel Description of the Drain Sword is kind of funny. Implies that it works like D. Wave. Slumber sword also can cast sleep when used as an item Blizzard Lance can cast Ice 2 when used as an item Flame Lance will cast Fire 2 when used as an item, not when it hits. White Spear can cast White when used as an item Mute Knife also casts Mute when used as an item Long katana adds Sleep status? The Great Bow, Short Bow, and Samurai Bow do not cause poison status Flame Rod casts Fire 1 when used as an item Ice Rod casts Ice 1 when used as an item Thunder Rod casts Lit 1 when used as an item When used as an item, Rod does something like the Dancing Knife Staff cures poison when used as an item I *think* the Life staff casts Life 1 when used as an item Poison Claw can poison enemy Poison Axe, Avenger Sword, and all Mallets are two-handed Edge cannot equip the throwing stars Earth Mallet casts Quake when used as an item The whips add paralyze, not stop Bandana and Headband increases attack a little. Glass Helmet is won from EvilMasks, not from specific battles. Ribbon doesn't actually protect against status ailments (Rosa and Rydia get paralyzed all the time with it) Shadow Helmet can't be purchased Porom can also equip the Tiara Crystal helmet doesn't protect against Fire, Ice, and Lit. I think all the Dragoon stuff is supposed to. Ice Shield protects against Fire and the Fire Shield protects against Ice. I also don't think the Fire armor and Ice armor are weak against their respective elements. Silver shield doesn't protect against petrification The Paladin Shield is not initially equipped. Crystal Ring is not dropped by FatalEye Bard Robe can also be bought in Mist Prisoner Robe is also the initial equipment of Cid Octomamm is also weak against DK Swords Alot of the armament in your lists claim to protect against certain elements and/or status ailments. I don't think most of them do, so I'll check them later. Don't hold your breath, though. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

The Life Staff casts Life1 when used as an item, aye.
Quote I also don't think the Fire armor and Ice armor are weak against their respective elements. This, however, I'm pretty certain of it's NOT true. I thought I was smart when I equipped the Fire Armor against Rubicant the first time I played it. Bad idea. You might want to check this, since I don't guarantee anything. -------------------- |

I seem to recall that the last time you did this, DP, most of them didn't get put up because we found several that you were wrong on and we didn't have time to verify them ourselves. Have you verified all of these yourself, or are you just going from memory? It doesn't really help us if you just think of things that might be wrong and post them - we could put them all up but if half are right and half are wrong, we're in the same position we were before we started.
When we did FF4 for Chronicles originally, we didn't have the technology available for the site that we do now. In the near future (meaning probably by the end of the year) we'll be retooling the FF4 section to work a little better between the two versions. Maybe you could use that time to verify 100% your list above. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Actually, you declared one I wasn't sure about wrong, so you ignored me entirey. I can get screenshots if you want.
The ones I listed were just the obvious ones. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I wasted my time to verify most of DP's list, here's what I came up with:
NOT COMPLETELY SURE//DONT FEEL LIKE DOING: Quote Octomamm is also weak against DK Swords Crystal Ring is not dropped by FatalEye Glass Helmet is won from EvilMasks, not from specific battles. Mute Knife also casts Mute when used as an item Long katana adds Sleep status? Porom can also equip the Tiara Ice Shield protects against Fire and the Fire Shield protects against Ice. I also don't think the Fire armor and Ice armor are weak against their respective elements. Slumber sword also can cast sleep when usd as an item Blizzard Lance can cast Ice 2 when used as an item Flame Lance will cast Fire 2 when used as an item, not when it hits. **PROBABLY** TRUE BUT DIDNT VERIFY: Quote The Great Bow, Short Bow, and Samurai Bow do not cause poison status Poison Claw can poison enemy The whips add paralyze, not stop White is Holy-elemental Virus is "sacred" elemental or something, isn't it? UP TO YOU: Quote Description of the Drain Sword is kind of funny. Implies that it works like D. Wave. Crystal helmet doesn't protect against Fire, Ice, and Lit. I think all the Dragoon stuff is supposed to. Character Profiles include abilities not in IIus. I charted magic damage from Crystal and Dragoon helmets only equipped on Cecil and put it into a spreadsheet, they both have about the same amount of damage, but I don't know if it includes reisistance : here, they both may or may not have some resistance against elementals, but they both have the same damage averages. I equipped Cecil in ONLY said helmet, here are the stats he had in equip screen: Crystal Helm: Attack 231, Defense 87, Circle thing (mdefense?) 29 Dragoon Helm: Attack 231, Defense 86, Circle thing 28 SO FAR TRUE: NOT SURE: Quote Poison Axe is two-handed I would guess this is true, but none of the savestates I used had one handy TRUE: Quote all Mallets are two-handed Avenger Sword is two handed WRONG: I found none that were wrong TRUE: Quote Flame Rod casts Fire 1 when used as an item Ice Rod casts Ice 1 when used as an item Thunder Rod casts Lit 1 when used as an item Prisoner Robe is also the initial equipment of Cid Bard Robe can also be bought in Mist Earth Mallet casts Quake when used as an item Silver shield doesn't protect against petrification ...Life staff casts Life 1 when used as an item Edge cannot equip the throwing stars White Spear can cast White when used as an item Weak only works on one target PSX magic list does not include Shell, Protect, and Dispel Shadow Helmet can't be purchased A Black Helmet can be purchased in Fabul Quote Staff cures poison when used as an item It casts something that can heal different ailments, but I did not test it. It looks like Heal magic, I believe Quote The Paladin Shield is not initially equipped. You buy it in Mysidia, iirc, Paladin Cecil has only the Legend sword when you get him WEIRD: Quote When used as an item, Rod does something like the Dancing Knife When you use the rod, it shoots a pellet-like thing. When you use the Dancing Knife it shoots a knife item icon and does the same thing as the Rod except with the knife icon, as well as being considerably stronger. HERE'S WHAT I FOUND: Quote Ribbon doesn't actually protect against status ailments (Rosa and Rydia get paralyzed all the time with it) RIBBON DOES NOT PROTECT AGAINST:
RIBBON PROTECTS AGAINST:
UNSURE (could not get these to work on control group):
Quote Asura doesn't cast protect in IIus In FFII-US here's how Asura works: Blue face: Life 1 Pretty face: Cure 2 Orange face: Cure 3 Quote Bandana and Headband increases attack a little. Headband did this for me: Headband: +1 damage (sword in equip menu) +1 defense (shield in equip menu) +1 magic defense? (circle in equip menu) Couldn't find where to buy Bandana That was pretty fun. |

I printed out CoN's FFIV section and am going through the game a couple of times to check everything. I will be posting with a lot of screenshots later.
I just posted some of the obvious things. If they were about as obvious as Rosa being able to equip bows and arrows, or moreso, I posted it. I'll check back later. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I checked the Fire/Ice Shield/Armor thing. When wearing one of these four items alone, the Peep spell says they are weak against the element it's named after. It does not, however, say that they are strong against the opposite element. When I equipped a shield-armor combo that was opposite (i.e. Fire Armor with Ice Shield) the Peep spell said there was no weakness. If there were no strengths, then the wearer would be weak against both ice and fire. Therefore, both shields and armor are weak against their own element, and strong against the opposite element.
--- With the Adamant Armor, Glass Helmet, and Crystal Ring, I intended to take a screenshot of everyone you didn't list. Instead, I took a screenshot of everyone except Paladin Cecil and DK Cecil (the latter of which can't equip them) because I saw that only Paladin Cecil was listed as being able equip the Adamant Armor, and I didn't look to see who was listed under the other two. Adamant Armor Crystal Ring Glass Helmet --- I took a screenshot of everyone you did not list for the Cursed Ring http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/CursedRing.JPG And the Cursed Ring does NOT raise the Dark Knight's stats http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/CursedRingStat.JPG --- Magic Tellah does not now Peep when you first get him Tellah does not learn White/Holy Tellah does not learn Fatal, Nuke, or Quake Rosa learns White/Holy at level 48, not 49 Piggy costs one MP, not 7 Stop costs 15 MP, not 9 Sylph costs 25 MP, not zero --- Swords Avenger Sword is Two Handed. That's what it does when you have a two-handed weapon equipped and try to equip a shield (and vice versa) and notice how the Ice Shield is shaded out. The Dark Knight cannot equip all those swords. The Medusa Sword delivers that line when you attack. I remember being able to cast Stone when using it as an item in previous games, but I couldn't seem to get it to. The Slumber Sword casts Sleep when used as an item. It also adds Sleep status when hit. The Fire Sword can be bought for 14000 GP The Darkness Sword is in the Watery Pass, not the Kapio Sewers (it's probably called the KS in another version) http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/SwordStat.JPG Avenger Sword's Attack is 80 Defense Sword's Attack is 105 Excalbur's Attack is 160 Silver Sword's attack is 50 Slumber Sword's attack is 55 Any other numbers (including these) that are off in my pic are due to boosts in Strength. I went through and calculated. --- Lances The Blizzard Lance casts Ice 2 when used as an item The Flame Lance casts Fire 2 when used as an item The White Lance casts White when used as an item The Dragoon Lance is only dropped by a Red Dragon. Firebombs are stolen from them. I couldn't get the Dragoon Lance to randomly swoon the enemy The Wind Lance is not found in the Tower of Zot; it is initially equipped on Cain when he returns the first time http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/LanceStat.JPG The Blizzard Lance's Attack is 77 Any other numbers that are off in my pic are due to boosts in Strength --- Daggers The Dancing Dagger is bought in Mist for 5000 GP The Dark Knight cannot equip any Dagger The Paladin can equip every Dagger The Mute Dagger is in the Sylph Cave, not the Tower of Babil http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/DaggerStat.JPG The Assassin Dagger's Attack is 30 The Dancing Dagger's attack is 28 Assassin Dagger appears off because of boost in Strength. --- Ninja Swords The Middle Sword is in the Tower or Zot, as well as can be bought There are two Long swords in the Sealed Cave, and none in the Tower of Babil. I could not get it to put an enemy to sleep. The Ninja Sword is in the Cave to the Summoned Monsters, not in the Tower of Zot --- Bows and Arrows The Dark Knight cannot equip the Darkness arrow or any other related item The Paladin can equip every Bow and Arrow Rosa can equip Bows and Arrows! Darkness Arrows can be bought for 40GP The Artemis Bow is not stolen from Karys. Only Artemis Arrows. http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/KarySteal.JPG What I did here was use the Steal Trick to get Cain to equip the Artemis Arrows stolen by the Kary. As you can see in the third pic, Cain cannot equip arrows. In FFIV, each moster only has one item type that can be stolen from it (though you can steal an infinite amount of them). --- Rods The Rod does... something when used as an item The Ice Rod casts Ice 1 when used as an item The Fire Rod casts Fire 1 when used as an item The Thunder Rod casts Lit 1 when used as an item The Charm Rod casts Charm when used as an item. I couldn't get the Charm Rod to charm the enemy through regular attacking. --- Staves Child Rydia can equip every Staff. Adult Rydia can't equip any. The Life Staff casts Life (1, I think) when used as an item. Had that been the spell, it would have included a number and the white dot. The Lunar Staff costs 7000 GP, not 10000 The Power Staff will Beserk it's target when it attacks. I remember being able to cast Beserk when using it as an item in previous games, but I couldn't seem to get it to. The Silence Staff casts Mute when used as an item, in addition to Silencing it's target when it attacks. When used as an item, the Staff will heal only Poison. Here is a pic looking at just Poison and Piggy. You cannot steal Silence Staves from the Conjuror; they are only dropped. What is stolen are Cure Staves. Were it a potion, there would be a number beside it. After some testing, I found out what the Silver Staff does - what the Unicorn Horn does (what Rydia uses when she rejoins). It heals status ailments that would be gone at the end of the battle. Unlike the UH, though, the Silver Staff only works on one person. --- Claws In addition to being in the places you already have listed, the Poison Claw and Cat Claw can be found in the Sylph Cave The Poison Claw can randomly poison the target when it attacks --- Axes The Poison Axe and Rune Axe are two-handed --- Chakrams The Boomrang can also be bought in Eblan Cave --- Mallets All Mallets are two-handed The Wooden Mallet can also be bought The Earth Mallet casts Quake when used as an item --- Whips Child Rydia can equip all whips Whips randomly paralyze enemies; they don't Stop them The Dragon Whip's attack is 55 and the Flame Whip's attack is 50; They each give a boost in stats that give them an extra 1 in attack --- Items Baron Item Shop Eblan Cave Item Shop Hummingway Cave Shop Cabins are worth 1000 GP, not 500 Life Potions are worth 150 GP, not 100 Tents are worth 200 GP, not 100 Heals are worth 100 GP, not 5000 --- Edge cannot equip the Shuriken, Ninja Star, or Spoon Dagger. --- Initial Equipment Dark Knight Kain Child Rydia Tellah Edward Rosa Yang Palom Porom Tellah Paladin Yang Cid Kain Rosa Adult Rydia Edge FuSoYa Kain Important things: Iron "Stuff" is initially equipped on Kain Silver "Stuff" is on Kain when he returns the first time Samurai "Stuff" is on Kain when he returns the secons time The Shadow Helmet and Gauntlet cannot be bought The Paladin does not come initially equipped with the Paladin Shield Cid also comes with the Prisoner Suit Short Swords are initially equipped on Edge Yang comes equipped with the Leather Robe, not the Karate Suit, both times. I listed them all in case you wanted to list that the other Miscellaneous items (Leather Robe/Cap, Gaea Robe, etc) do come initially equipped. Edit Upload a ton of pics at once, you're bound to forget to include one. Paladin Cecil can equip the Dragoon stuff This post has been edited by FraudulentTommah on 17th June 2004 05:09 -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

This is a marvelous post. I'll try to badger Josh enough to get the fixes made.

Is the poison claw and cat claw in the sylph cave if Yang does not have them equipped when he stops the cannon. I always thought those treasure chests were dependent on that.

This is only part of it. I will get going on the armor and focus more on locations next.
I will also compile a list of the Stat boosts each piece of equipment gives, if ya'll want it. And those two are always there, Ancient. Through these several playthroughs, I don't remember once when I had them equipped when he left. Even still, on normal playthroughs, they are there, even though I strip people of their equipment before they leave. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Note that some of the figures may seem a little off due to Stat boosts, which I already took into account
The Bomb Summon costs 10MP, not 20 Cid can also equip The Dragoon Stuff --- Armor Dark Armor I think ya'll moved these up one in the list Black Armor gives 9 Defense and 3 Magic Defense Darkness Armor gives 7 Defense and 2 Magic Defense Shadow Armor gives 5 Defense and 1 Magic Defense Armor Adamant Armor only provides 100 Defense and 20 Magic Defense Crystal Armor gives 25 Defense and 10 Magic Defense Dragoon Armor gives 23 Defense and 8 Magic Defense --- Helmets Helmets Bandanna gives 3 Defense and 1 Magic Defense Diamond Helmet gives 9 Defense and 2 Magic Defense Headband gives 1 Defense and 1 Magic Defense Add Tellah, Edward, Cid, Edge, and both Rydias to the Cap List Add Paladin and FuSoYa to the Gaea Cap List Add Tellah, Edward, Cid, Edge, and both Rydias to the Headband List Add Tellah, Edward, Cid, Edge, and both Rydias to the Leather Cap List Add Tellah, Edward, Cid, Edge, and both Rydias to the Ninja Cap List Add Tellah, Edward, Cid, Edge, and both Rydias to the Ribbon List Add Tellah and FuSoYa to the Wizard Hat List Cid can also equip the Samurai Helmet Porom can also equip the Tiara --- Shields Shields Aegis gives 4 Defense and 5 Magic Defense --- Gauntlets Dark Gauntlets You left out the Darkness Gauntlet. 3 Defense and zero Magic Defense Gauntlets Zeus Gauntlet only adds 10 Defense and Zero Magic Defense (Huge Vitality boost is what accounts for the extra 5) You put FuSoYa in places where Edge should be Here is everyone who can equip the Diamond Gauntlet Add Yang and Adult Rydia to the Zeus Gauntlet List --- Armlets Armlets The Protect Ring gives 15 Defense and 12 Magic Defense The Rune Bracelet gives 5 Defense and 8 Magic Defense The Silver Ring gives 4 Defense and 4 Magic Defense Cursed Ring The Cursed Ring gives/takes no Defense or Magic Defense. In order for Yang's wife to give you the Pan, you must talk to the Sylph on the far left (the one closest to Yang's bed, who asks if they are doing enough for him). I talked to the other three and Yang, but she wouldn't give it to me then. What's the deal with the PinkPuffs? You do not go to Kolkol for the Adamant Armor. Quote (Zephir @ 22nd June 2004 10:22) Probably 'cause we've raped his bandwidth. Possible. I may not be reading this right, but my monthly bandwith is supposed to be 3 GB, and I have used 78 MB. If "Additional Bandwith" is supposed to be how much I have left, then I have none left. Even if that's not what it means, it says I have zero. That's some strange math. How do you fix this? Wait a week? Edit It works fine if you click from My Home Page. Ya'll probably don't feel like searching down the list, though. (Pre-approved Bump)
I figured a way to get around the hotlinking error without searching through that list. Right-clicking, then hitting Copy Shortcut/Copy Link Location/etc, then pasting it in the address bar will bring you there. I don't know what's up with it. Maybe it's a bandwith thing or SpHosting is becoming like geocities with it's free accounts. Edit Ok. Found out what's going on. In my experience that only works on Internet Explorer, and only because of its braindead ignorance of server-supplied MIME types. Using that method with the mostly Firefox-using staff will just make it harder to view the images.

I found a boo-boo. I've been playing the Chronicles version, and Rosa gets the 'Float' spell at Lv. 35, not 32 as in the magic section.

DT: Were you looking at the SNES version? That's the level she learns it in IIus.
This update will include mainly location information. I spent this last play-through looking at everything, so I may end up repeating several things. I will put every error I found, and let the staff decide what's important. Remember to Copy and Paste the URLs. --- Here is a list of every Store in FFIV. I may refer back to this later in my post.
