I know that you need to battle 255 times with the cursed shield to make it turn into the paladin shield plus you can't unequip it. But what if the character with it dies during battle-- does that reset the counter?

Probably not, but if the user with the cursed shield equpis a different shield, i know it resets. ii don't see any reason why your character would die though.... unless your doing it in kefkas tower

1. The counter is only affected at the end of battle and it can only be incremented unless you get a game over, in which case I assume it just resets to whatever number of battles you had before.
2. Dequiping has no effect on it. The only special rules about uncursing the shield is that Gogo can't do it and the wearer must be alive at battle's end. That's it. No "you can't dequip it," no "you have to fight all battles at once," nothing. 3. It's 256 battles. -------------------- |

I thought battles on the Veldt didn't increase the counter eithec. If you say this is not true ZED, I will of course consider that the final say.

It's not true; like Magic Points, the counter of the Cursed Shield will be affected. I have uncursed the shield onethe Veldt a few times myself. I realize my name is not Zed, but I hope you'll take my word for it as well }!--emo&:)--> ![]() |

Testimony.
I equipped the Cursed Shield to Strago and fought battles exclusively on the Veldt, and he did die in battle multiple times (though revived by the end usually), and it did a hunky dorry job of turnign into the Paladin Shield ... funny how my gaming experience covered each of those rumors. ![]() This post has been edited by Ejoty on 15th July 2004 01:14 -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

About the Cursed Shield on the Veldt - yes, you can uncurse it, but you must win the battle normally. Leap/Return fights don't count.

In addition to that, the battle only adds to the Cursed Shield variable when you win the battle in such a way that you'll be informed about items, GP, magic points, etc.
Running, Warp, Smoke Bomb or an automatic battle end after a scene (and Kefka's final battle) all keep the counter at the same number. Edit Yeah, Escape doesn't belong there. This post has been edited by Djibriel on 26th July 2004 18:33 -------------------- |

Quote (Djibriel @ 16th July 2004 18:05) Running, Warp, Smoke Bomb, that last opponent using Escape (the monster move) or an automatic battle end after a scene (and Kefka's final battle) all keep the counter at the same number. With that being the case, if you're learning spells from Espers, you should still be able to count battles won by default against runaway monsters, especially if Terra is with you as she'll always gain Magic Points unless she runs away or dies or whatever. -------------------- |
