Whats the stupidest mistake you've ever made while playing FFVI? With me, I had beat the phantom train, gone off the Baron Falls, gotten to Mobliz, Got Gau, and taught him some of his really good rages at the time, (Pteredon, Stray Cat, ect) And then... I died. At the hands of a weak enemy no less. And I hadn't saved since the Phantom train... I just hate that part of the game so much that I can't stand doing it over again...

I absolutley hate when for whatever reason (on the phone... wife is playing my game... children are screaming...) I don't wait for Shadow on the floating continent.

I hate making it signifigantly far through the game, and then realizing that you didn't fight a monster in a place that you can only go to once, not get that rage and have to start the whole game again!!!!! Curse you Chaser!

My very first time through (prior to walkthroughs): not paying one bit of attention to the little conversation before leaving Darill's Tomb about attacking Kefka's Tower 'from the air.' When the time came, I wondered around the entire WoR for some clue as to how to get in, not to mention both walked and flew around the Tower itself for an ungodly amount of time before 'accidentally' landing on the roof and shouting every profanity to myself known to man.

I didn't do any of Shadow's dream sequences in the WoB, and now I can't get any of them in the WoR.

I missed Water Rondo too, but not waiting for Shadow was my worst. I don't think that's technically dumb. Why would jumping off of the floating continent cause it to explode and kill Shadow? It just doesn't make sense. Chewbacca is a wookie living on Endor with a bunch.... oh, sorry... Chewbacca defence.

sorry now to my stupid thing. lets see the stupidest thing i ever did was let me think.......oh yes the first time i went to the floating contenet i went with all my weakest guys and was sent all the way back to befor the airship crashes. -------------------- Don't fear the reaper! A brief aside on dreams: yes, you can see them at any time, even in the WoR (though the chances of getting them in either world are low, and it often seems like it's not working); no, they're not location-dependent; no, they don't affect Shadow's ending.
But still, mistakes... well, it's not quite the same as the others, but forgetting where to go to find out about Sabin from the Matron the first 50 or so times I played the early Figaro Castle bit wore on my nerves. It's just one of those things I could never seem to navigate around properly. Thankfully, the location is now burned into my brain. |

Now that we're on the subject of Shadow, I waited until the last second with the "Will you jump?" question on the screen, just after it said "1" I jumped and couldn't figure out how to get Shadow. This being my first time, and having difficulty with the whole floating continent, I didn't want to reset since I made it so far.... lol, and never understood how to get Shadow until later... you just wait and it happens automatically!! NOOOOO!!!

There were two moments that come to mind:
A save right before a Dark Force uses Level 5 Doom and offs my entire party, and nothing I did could change it. I was hunting for Rages and needed only three more. It was the first time I came close to having them all. A save right in the Colloseum when Shadow is fighting a Didalos with the Striker. The Didalos would get dispatched and returned every time, and this way both Shadow and the Didalos would take no damage at all. It was an infinite battle. I know *now* that you can remedy that by running away (Shadow won't take turns and he'll eventually lose), but I didn't know that at the time nor did I have the brains to figure that one out. -------------------- |

LOL @ Silverfork
I stopped playing the game for a few days because I was so mad at it. I actually had to get online and find a friggin' walkthrough to tell me to land on the damn tower. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

Oh wait, I forgot.
The first time through the game, my party was so weak... I went into Cyan's dream and wasn't strong enough to fight my way out! I had pretty much no items, and few spells since even then I knew that they were relatively useless. I had to get a friend to beat the dream for me, since when I did finally get to the end boss, those two little things were invincible!!! I wasted so many megalixers on them! Only to find that vanish + x-zone = instant death.... -------------------- "Look at me! I'm a receptionist! G'fa ha ha!" Quote Ultros |

My first time through I missed Mog completely in WoB, didn't wait for shadow, tok the Ragnarok esper, never even saw the cursed sheild, and underestimated Gau and Mog COMPLETELY throughout the entire game.

Yeah, pretty much ditto, except for underestimating Gau. Is it a mistake to take the Ragnarok esper? |

There was a poll explaining peoples opinion on that. But the general agreement is yes: With the Ragnarok sword you can get the Illumina (best weapon in the game) from the collusemum.
Plus, the esper doesn't give you anything that you desperately need. This post has been edited by SuperManBoy on 11th July 2004 13:51 -------------------- "Look at me! I'm a receptionist! G'fa ha ha!" Quote Ultros |

Biggest mistake? Forgetting to save, Save, SAVE. Worst was when I'd managed to get from Zozo (before finding Terra and fighting Dadaluma) to Vector, forgot to save, accidentally strayed into the desert near Maranda and had something in there wipe the floor with my pathetic mortal backside - and forgot to save. So I was back in Zozo, no Terra, no Espers.

Yes the Ragnarok sword randomly casts flare, but the sword you get wagering the Ragnarok is much better. It is the Illumina.

It's hard to make a huge mistake that is irreversible other than leaving Shadow or such. A lot of the time I'd make a lot of mistakes that end up proving fatal during dire circumstances like casting a Phoenix Down on an alive person on accident, or using weapons that heal monsters (I did it with the Heal Rod a LOT).
But probably my biggest mistake was when I accidentally threw my most powerful sword at a leafer. I had almost all of my characters unequipped via the airship unequipper, and had a buncha weaklings and Shadow in my party. I meant to throw a Shuriken, but ended up throwing my Illumina at him. Then I saved the game. And then I realized what I just did. I wasn't pleased. This post has been edited by TheEvilEye on 12th July 2004 05:40 |

My dumbest mistake was thinking Sabin and then Locke were my favorites in certain periods of time. Edgar is the man now.

Leaving Shadow- THEN spending countless hours looking for him in every back water location known to man. Forests, Went through EVERY cave at least 5 times. ECT. Then someone told me i had to wait for him and i was like....Murr.....

i was working on a completion game, and the last thing i always do is get gaus rages, and realized i had forgotten to fight a grenade in the WoB after i had already done pretty much everything else in the game.

There are grenades in the WoR. In the forest near the dinosaur forest, you will fight bombs. Once in a while a grenade will appear. I can personally confirm it.

On my first time through, I couldn't find the hidden room to activate Phunbaba battles three and four, and therefore couldn't get Terra back into my party.

how about getting to the point right before you enter kefka's tower,
thinking about starting a new game to take a breather from your current one, you go to save, and you save over your game that is my dumbest mistake mainly since i've saved over games i didn't want to before other than that, it would be underestimating gau in my first two games -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |
