hmmm statistically id have to go with terra just cuz her morph is so useful and runic doesnt get used all THAT often. even in boss fights where runic is useful i hate wasting celes the whole fight just so a boss cant cast spells.
anywho, terra might be better but celes kicks her butt as a character. ugh i hate terras whineyness. stop trying feel sorry for yourself and your freak parents. youre a freak terra and everyone knows it!! p.s. celes rocks |

I tend to prefer Celes. Her Runic ability is a nice way of recharging MP and protecting from spells; Morph never really seemed like it helped much. They both have good magic and attacks. However, most of my reason for preferring Celes has nothing to do with battle and everything to do with Terra irritating me.

Terra, not only is she a good spell character, but you can also morph her to do crazy damage. She can also use most of the best items.

Celes, she just seems much more interesting than Terra. That, and I never really found morph all that helpful..

Celes is better than Terra by far. Once you get to the WoR, you can get her to learn more spells than anyone else, since she's the 1st person you use. Plus, Celes is a lot hotter than Terra! Terra isn't bad, but Celes just takes the cake.

Celes and Terra have the same equipment, and they both have high magic power. I never use Morph or Runic, so I’m forced to vote based on character, and therefore I prefer Celes.

There was a very long discussion about this on the gamefaqs board. Terra and Celes's equipment is identical except for a cotton robe or something. Celes's desperation attack has like 2 more spell power than Terra's and and Terra has a tiny bit better magic stat than Celes. So if we are deciding which character is the better fighter then for all intensive purposes it boils down to runic versus morph. Now when runic is useful it tends to be much more valuable than having morph, however runic isn't useful nearly as often as morph is useful since morph is universally good for every battle. I think Morph is definitely superior despite my own fine appreciation for Runic.
But the original question also asked which character do we like better personallly, and for that Celes beats Terra in my book. Terra acts like an whiny teenager whereas Celes acts like a serious adult. All of Terra's emotional scenes are corny and Celes's emotional scenes are bearable. |

Honestly, I likes them both. They are well developed characters with compelling stories, both are incredibly useful in battle for similar and unique reasons, and I think if they fought each other (both at max power), they'd probably be dead even.

Celes, cause she is Ice-Magic based(she starts with Ice) and Ice beats Fire. and Ice in my opinion, is better than fire ^^

I don't want to argue with opinions, but while Fire/Ice absorbtion is pretty much equal, Fire is more then two times as often super-effective then Ice.

Is morph really that useful? For one thing it's hardly usable until you get Terra in the WoR, since before then the ability drains real quick (I think that's how it goes). Also most enemies tend to die in one or two hits anyway, so with morph you'll likely inflict an unnesseccary amount of damage. That ability is replacable by just boosting up magic power. Do that with Celes and suddenly Terra's morph is no better than what Celes can do. Now I'm not trying to say that Runic is better. Both are equally useless in my opinion (or hardly useful). Their stats are similar as well so from a battle perspective I think we can come to the conclusion that we can't really say who is better. I wanted to get that out of the way before another long debate begins about the matter.
The rest is subjective, which I understand is the main point of this thread. In light of that I'll say that I like Celes better. Like others here I also favor her personality. The opera was rich as was her interaction with Locke. Plus she has a better looking sprite. ![]() ![]() -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

Celes' runic ability is a nice backup when enemy decides to use some heavy duty magic. She can absorb almost anything from doom to meteor. So she is usually gets to be my team's mage.

I am impartial to both, though I'm currently using Celes far more(just because I don't want to train Terra as high as my other characters yet). Celes' Runic isn't really that useful, although Morph is easily usable if you make everyone else block. In terms of character, Terra I can stand, she's very emotionally unstable as she is half human and half Esper, or what a lot of the world thinks, a freak. All she wants is love, and she finds that in Mobliz's children, and realizes that she, too, can be normal like everyone else. I think this is related to a huge problem in the world, where people are outlawed from everyone else due to race, age, gender, sexuality, religion, etc. Nobody knows yet that everyone has something special and that nobody is abnormal(unless, of course, they go against the law, like in terms of sexuality). Celes' character is also touching, in that people think she's lying and untrustworthy because she was a Magitek Knight and a general. I think her throwing herself off the cliff, trying to commit suicide, was far more touching than any other character's death in FF(Aeris' death was funny
![]() To me, both are equally useful, and equally powerful as characters, so I don't think it's fair to say either is better than the other. |

Although I liked Terra, and I thought the morph was cool, Celes is just a far richer charecter all around. Good magic and awsome fight ablilty was a real plus, because it meant I could have a good healer along, without having to sacrifice any power. I really didn't use runic often, but I can think of one time when it really saved my skin, and morph has never done that. And the bar always ran out on me before Terra could attack anyhow.

In battle, I prefer Celes by a microscopic amount. The main reason is because I usually put her in the party from the get-go (when Terra's out of commission), allowing her to get more beefed-up. I do eventually use both, but Celes always ends up being the stronger character. This also applies to the WoR, since normally it's either Locke or Terra whom I go for last. When it comes to the better ability, I never use Morph, ever. Runic isn't very useful after a few hours after obtaining Celes anyway (and not necessary by any means other than in a LLG), but at least I have used it once or twice (immediately after I get Atma I always equip it to Celes though, rendering Runic useless...literally. Terra gets Atma for a bit after the MRF, however). All in all, they're fairly equal, but Celes barely comes out on top.
As for their characters, I like them both equally. I never thought of Terra as being whiny; just confused and emotionally unstable. Throughout much of the WoB, she isn't sure just who or what she is, or if she's even capable of being like everyone else. She was used against her will as a biological weapon, causing many to believe she's just a murderer like much of the Empire. When she regains her memory, she (and everyone else) tries to stop the evil threatening the Espers and, in a way, a part of herself, which only leads to one fiasco after another. In Celes's case, she has a slightly deeper personality because she flaunts it more openly. The opera and attempted suicide scenes are touching and only serve to further develop her character. She becomes the "love interest" (or rather, Locke becomes hers) and the general focus shifts mainly to her during the WoR. She, like Terra, was also used (albeit it was willingly to a point), but deeply regrets her actions later in additon to being misunderstood by others. With that said, it's hard to choose between the two overall...so I won't. ![]() -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Same as any other game where you can choose your characters, I prefer the ones that have a good storyline and are interesting. Celes has much more appeal to me than the whiney Terra ever will, although in a battle Terra is arguably the better combatant to have.

I used Terra for most of the game, except in the final battle she's worthless cause she dies in one hit practically
Shes definitelly better than Celes, runic is only helpful in the beggining, once Terra can transform she can easily replace Celes |

Do people really use runic that much? I found it a pretty useless skill, since it affects spells that you cast that don't hit your party. From what I have read a lot of people like spells, so wouldn't runic put an annoying damper on things?

I REALLY prefer celes. It's just that terra has been shown as the ditzy "blondish" type character who is (imo) always being stupid (she's too much like me for her to be one of my favorite characters), celes is serious and well lets just say it, hot.
