I'm not sure if this is actually more effective or not because when i used to do it i was still playing the cart and still in grade school for that matter...my brothers and i used to use carbunkle and then cast a spell like pearl on our whole team so that all four castings get reflected onto the one enemy (who was weak vs. the spell we used) im pretty sure in hindsight that the damage get's split up and turns out totaling about the same amount as a single cast directly onto the enemy would be but im lazy and don't want to calculate the variations in the algorithms...anyone got any insight?

The nice thing about reflect spells is that you can bounct spells off of your party to hit enemies who have cast Reflect {n themselves. (A spell 'an onlyabe reflected once; it won’t bouce back and hit you.) I don’t know about the specific al6orithms, but it always struck me that a reflected spell was wea~er than the original. I know that this is the case in FF4FF6. -------------------- The world before the fall... Delightful is the light of dawn... Noble is the heart of man... |

Quote Multiple targets If magical attack and the attack is targeting more than one target: Damage = Damage / 2 Note: Some spells skip this step thx to ;Final Fantasy III (VI) Algorithms FAQ V 2.3 By Terii senshi So it does do a weaker attack, but if your hitting the same guy 4 times... It should do about twice as much damage |

Here's how it works:
A spell that's been reflected will do only 50 % of the damage. A spell that's targetting multiple targets will only do 50 % of the damage, unless it has a special ability that won't allow this reduction. Reflectable spells never have this ability, though. So when you target your own four members, the spell will first do only 50 % damage due to multiple targetting. Then, it'll get reflected and it will do 50 % damage of THAT, meaning 25 % of the initial power. Four 25 % power spells will hit the target. 4 x 25 % is 100 %, so you'll wind up with pretty much the same amount of damage. Damage will be calculated after the whole thing, meaning that unlike Quadra Slam/Slice it can't do more then 9999 damage. So there's really no point besides the fun of watching the same spell hit a target four times. -------------------- |

thanks for the clarification...i figured that it would be something similiar to that but once again was too lazy to look it up myself...so the only reason to go through the hassel of doing it is so that a spell can be used against a boss with reflect without losing the power of the original spell (since you'd have to cast reflect and the spell on yourself in order to bypass the enemy's reflection which usually cuts it in half when done one on character but gets four quarters when cast on four characters) but it would only be beneficial if you had to bypass a reflect and had three or more characters in your party
i knew that a spell couldn't be reflected twice (in ff2us i always made sure i had wall before i fought asura and the evilwall and used wall on asura to keep those damn cure spells off of her Since i knew about the reflection bypass i guess that my brothers and i did it to bypass a reflect and therefore (according to my above theory) was actually worth it despite the fact that it wasn't as damaging as we had thought at the time) -------------------- The more people i meet...the more i want to be a penguin |
