Nope. I've never played it. Is it really that bad of a game? Everyone keeps saying it is......

What made it so awful?

I say Rhapsody is the worst RPG ever...the whole concept was...frightning, but the presentation was worse.

I would tell you Wind-Dancer, but I haven't had the audacity to buy it. The buzz I've heard has been so horrible that it's discouraged me from purchasing it. I usually don't trust anything by vox populi, but when nearly everyone who's played it doesn't like it, it sends off a warning flare =/

I didn't like Secret of Evermore or Secret of the Stars in the least. Linear, boring, and trite concepts. I'm glad Square toned down its USA-rpg making.

I posted info about US in another thread. Secret of Evermore I had forgotten about. The worst part of Secret of Evermore was that I thought it was gonna be a dog of a game, but I played some of it in a Best Buy and enjoyed it and then went out and purchased it. Then I played it at home and the pain began. But it was still miles above Unlimited Saga.

I'm going to go with you on this one Ancient. I HATED Unlimited Saga. It was horrible, and I mean horrible. First off, I expected decent graphics from a PS2 game. It had worse graphics than a PlayStation game! Every time I look at it in my case I grow sick. I'm definitely going to trade it in for another game or something.

DON'T HATE ON SoE sad.gif . I really liked that game, a lot. It is nothing compared to SoM though.

I played Unlimited Saga for about ten minutes before deciding that it was on the level of Chrono Cross or Breath of Fire II. Since I'm sure that some of the people here like one or both of those games, I'll clarify that I did not.

Hey! I love Chrono Cross! Really great game. I don't know about Unlimited Saga but I guess I will have to rent it or something. You know to see what it is about.

To answer Wind-Dancer's question, Unlimited Saga essentially played like a board game. The battle system involved a bunch of roulett wheels, and the story could have been good, but the voice acting was like they brought in 1st graders who just learned to read. So if you feel like shelling out 50 bucks for a virtual board game, then Unlimited Saga is for you.

Correction: There are enjoyable board games. There are ok board games. And there are terrible board games. Unlimited Saga is worse than all of them.

Two questions:

1) Is Unlimited Saga's voice acting worse than the notorious Resident Evil's?

2) Is the roulette system hard to get the hang of?

Right about now, I have four other games I know are good (AtL, Disgaea, FFAnthology, Drakengard) and the opinions around here are more trustworthy than some site's review (I trust it more, anyway).

I went to the website for it and combed through facts about it and such, and it looked like a waste of money, but maybe someone who's actually played it can convince me otherwise, eh?

yes, and yes. and drakengard isn't terribly *good,* either. the novelty gets old kind of fast, but i recommend playing it thru to the end. if you get the final ending you'll be quite surprised. arc the lad, the game, also sucks. but neither of them are nearly as bad as unlimited saga. the slotwheel system is actually pretty cool, but it really gets absurdly hard to coordinate in higher-level combos. no to mention that the rest of the game sucks, it has no story to speak of, the graphics, while well drawn, have -0- animation (and the animated battle graphics are trash), the gameplay is like a board game, you NEVER know what you're doing, if you die (which is easy to do since boss monsters are about 15x harder than the dungeon's regular monsters, tricking you into thinking this is a mission you should be on -- bringin up another point, the lack of ANY linearity whatsoever makes it impossible to know where you should go) you stand to lose about 2 hours of absolutely mind-numbing play. skillups and levelups are totally random, and combo attacks are so hard to do they are worthless to incorporate into your strategy. you never have any money to buy cool weapons unless you replay low-level, boring, ridiculous missions end-on-end, and you have to get lucky and randomly stumble onto some "trick" panel (which looks just a hexagonally normal [before some smartass who thinks they know more math then me posts here, i know it's not a normal hexagon; that's why i didn't say normally hexagonal] to advance about 60% of the quests. oh, did i mention there is NO STORYLINE TO SPEAK OF so you NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING? don't let some people fool you. even if you HATED chrono cross to the point that you would TRADE YOUR SOUL to personify it and inflict upon it the most sincere and vengeful pain you were able to, it COULD NOT COMPARE to usaga.

if you want a good idea of what your usaga experience will be like, think of jamming rusted nails under your toenails and then bathing them in a concoction of vinegar and lemon juice. and that's being nice.

1) I wouldn't term what US features as voice acting. More as reading poorly. And since unlike Resident Evil, all you have is a crappy still cartoon pic to accompany it, it is worse.

2) Hard? Impossible is more appropriate. Not that I don't like a good challenge in my games...I prefer it...just not in this one.

I'd have to agree that Unlimited Saga was a horrible game. You have to play it to get the general idea. I can't describe it. I've tried to block out that horrible experience.

I know everyone here is gonna yell at me but I really hated Fire Emblem for the GBA...IMO that was the worst RPG I have ever played, although I haven't played Unlimited Saga. I've heard that it's worse though...Still, I think that Fire Emblem was horrible. (Ducks and runs from the stone that everyone at CoN throws).

Never played Unlimited Saga either (dont play much new stuff), but I thought Fire Emblem was freakin awful, too.

I don't know how much this fits the topic, I never played Unlimited Saga. No desire to.

But the worst RPG I ever actually played? Hmmm... for me that would probably be the Magic Knights RPG, or the Lufia, games for Super Nintendo. No idea who made them. Definitely not Square. They were boring, the characters were blah, and the games in general struck me as being so god-aweful generic. They just lacked alot of the charm that other, similar games had. Thank god I didn't have to pay for them. I also didn't enjoy Acrana very much. It had some intriguing characters, but the dungeon crawling got on my nerves, and the fighting was boring.

Probably the worst recent RPG I played would be Sword of Mana. This is not to say Sword of Mana was a bad game at all, I've just gotten really picky about what I buy. But I just have problems with Sword of Mana; their attempts to update the story from FF Adventure (SD1) just screwed up some of the characters for me, and they added way too many pointless characters and concepts from previous installments in the series, which ended up making the game feel cluttered.

Seriously, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was more enjoyable for me. I did like FFMQ, it's a fun little piece of gaming. Secret of Evermore was great! Square USA wasn't *that* terrible!

--------------------
And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him.

ive never played that game, but of all the RPGs ive played, i disliked Legend of Dragoon the most, there's just something about it that i don't really like, for one thing you couldn't go out and explore the world, all you had was a trail of dots (like FFX, but no airship to go anywhere you want), and it was too easy for me. And is it just me, or was the final battles in FFX weak? I for one enjoy a really good and tough final boss showdown, but this, it was a disappointment to me, but dont get me wrong, i still enjoyed the game, just wish they could've made Yu Yevon a little more challenging thumbdown.gif and you think the voice acting for Resident Evil was bad, you should try the first Silent Hill, great game and all, but it's like they got the voice actors from some bargain bin at the dollar stor

definately. i mean, wtf were they thinking when they made it. "you know what would be great? a game where you fight and sing gay songs at the same time."

One of my LEAST favorite RPG's would have to be Dark Cloud. It was okay but spread too thin.

And I've NEVER EVER EVER EVER seen a completely successful board game transferred into a video game! There's like nothing to go on...
