I must admit that I was a little disappointed with the ending. I figured that Square would try to top FF VI in this respect, but they fell well short of the mark.

The ending to most FFs are mediocre. FFVII was a good example of this mediocrity. The only especially good thing about it was the fact that I like open endings.

I did not like the game that much to begin with, I thought it was overrated but the ending was pathetic, probably the second worst one other then FFVIII,
Possible spoilers: highlight to view they should have let Squall die, along with the rest of the cast. I voted yes but I wouldn't say that it was great... I thought they last battle with Sephiroth was a little stupid
Possible spoilers: highlight to view and it just left to much open for me... I personally didn't think it was great but I wouldn't rate it as horrible or anything... and like DP said you know, the one where you win no matter what. Quote The ending to most FFs are mediocre. Yeah the ending to VII was really lacking. At least the music in the credits was good!

Yeah.. they oviously were setting up for a sequel but I don't think it was a matter of not getting around to it. I think they waited 7 years to make one because they knew that most people loved the game, so they were just leaving us wishing for a sequel and just when everyone thought they wouldn't do it because it had been so many years, we hear news of the sequel... I was disappointed with the ending. It failed to conclude the story, but even that in itself isn't necessarily a death blow. The thing that bugged me the most was:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view So, the ending centers around Red XIII and his puppies? WTF? Who'd he have puppies with? Wasn't he supposed to be the last of his kind? And even then, the only thing the ending told you was that the planet still existed. Any of the people on it? Pfft. Who cares about them? Wait, that's a new rant. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

The ending must have been lame because I can hardly remember it. I recall the...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view ...one on one fight with Cloud and Sephiroth which turned out to not be a fight at all. That was dissapointing. Then I remember something about Cloud escaping in some dramatic movie and at the end the appearance of Aeris. The lameness of the Cloud vs Sephiroth battle is my biggest complaint. Cloud would have looked a lot cooler beating Sephiroth after a long hard fight. -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

Depends on how you look at it.
As an ending itself, it's.....okay. As a setup for Advent Children's story, it's pretty good. ---- Yeah humans survived Meteor, but they suffered from something called "star scar syndrome" or something like that. That's what I read on an advent children site anyway. ^^ This post has been edited by bratkitty on 19th June 2004 04:25 |

the point isn't about seeing RedXIII and his children(which the kids looked cute)
the point is what Midgar looks like now a jungle...no more Shinra... actually I was wrong RedXIII was showing his children what he and his friends did to save the world you know site-seeing story. but the sephiroth point I did not get... maybe he was trying to forget the ol' rip-off... and I don't like the star thing... but, still I was a little disappointed by the ending... I did not like it as much... I was really confused by the ending to FF7. Did holy stop meteor, did it help it? I'm not sure if I understand, but I think holy acctually helped meteor and the life stream came out to stop them both. I dunno, due to confusion, I vote no.

I personally loved it. Except for the part where the music went all weird. The fact that the endig was open was the best part. I loved the last screenshot
Possible spoilers: highlight to view That really left me hangin'. The ending was so inconclusive it made me as anxious as WGG. But I liked that part. with aeris lifting her head. Possible spoilers: highlight to view And, I don't think that that thing that they thought was holy WAS holy. The lifestream itself and the spirit of the dead was holy. That's why you saw Aeris' face. That, or that holy itself wasn't strong enough to destroy meteor. It needed the will power of all the dead, the whole lifestream to destroy it. The part with RedXIII was one of the best. What it meant was, as dragon Lancer said, was it was showing that holy saved the people from Meteor AND the horrors of Midgar and the Shinra. -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. Well this is the reason why I thank God for Advent Children. All the 16-bit FF's had brilliant endings. Best you could ever get for that time. They certainly weren't mediocre.
Once we entered the 3d polygon generation yes endings were very short, brief and often a dissapointing reward for playing the game. For the duration of FF7 you would expect a what happened to "ALL" the characters at the end. I don't see Vincent and Yuffie in the ending FMV. Square did reveal that FF7 was actually rushed and several multiple endings were cut. Including FMV's of Vincent and Yuffie. Give Square it's credit for making a quality game and plot and not cutting most of that and only the endings. So many other games cut so much material you'd wonder how much percent of the game you were actually playing. But to me FF7AC is SquareEnix saying "Sorry for the borish ending how about a 80 min movie sequal". Yep that'll work. So while the ending for FF7 was unbelieveably bad. You really can't say we are getting ripped off. |

I just beat the game, about two minutes ago, so it's fresh in my mind.
I must say that it really sucked. FFVII is overrated as a whole, for one thing. The plot bit, as did some of the characters, but the ending was the worst part of the game. Every other Square game that I've beaten had a better ending, even Mario RPG. But, it will probably help in understanding FF7:AC's plot. -------------------- Wow. 1,000 posts. Wow, people actually have similar gripes about FF7's ending now? Psh, took a couple years.
Wow, so for starters FF7 is my favorite FF game, and was the first I played. But the ending was so....what?? Ok, 500 years later and you see Red and his kids. Okay, fine. They'll probably show that he found a female hidden somewhere. Just wait for it....Ok maybe not. Alright, so he's taking them somewhere. Alright, he's probably gonna take them to a statue of Cloud or other characters and tell them the story of how he fought alongside the legendary humans that fought off Sephiroth and saved the world. This is gonna be awesome..Hum...Uh. Ok. Midgar..Jungle. Right. The End. &$^#!!!! Oh wait, after the credits there's all these stars and the FF theme is playing. I bet there's still more....hmm...wait...wait...nope. Nothing. Seriously now, just because Midgar is gone doesnt mean anything else happened. You have no idea. Going by facts here, not by insinuations. So I really hope that sequel clears everything up. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |

Well, it was Aeris bringing the life stream to back up Holy. Aeris had already prayed for Holy and it would have stopped it before but Sephiroth was blocking Holy and Lifestream. After you kill Sqphiroth he's dead (obviously) and can no longer block Holy and Lifestream from stopping meteor (since Aeris had died then she returned to the lifestream that's probably how she was able to use it...that's what I think anyway.) I enjoyed FF7, but the ending leaves much to be desired. Although the ending was visually impressive, it doesn’t tie up any loose endings. (I like endings like that of FF4, in which you learn what happens to the party.)
