I would have her be a Summoner cause there is SOOO many time that Bahamut or Leviathan have saved in tough spots.

I'd go with summoner as well, since I almost always use her for summoning, and besides if you really needed a black mage theres always Porom (Or Palom, whichever is the guy) Good luck finding a new summoner, lol.

Rydia is primarily a Summoner, and she was a Red Wizard secondary. When she grew up, she lost White magic, and became a secondary Black Wizard.

Summoner. (Caller sounds like a phone operator.) Bahamut is as efficient as Nuke, while dealing more damage. Meteo takes too long to cast. And Sylph can help restore some HP.

Rydia is a caller by heritage, but I like her best when she is able to summon and use the black magic.

Summoner. It would make me sad if she were a black mage main. and no summon. I WOULD FREAKIN GIVE UP IF SHE DIDNT HAVE SUMMONSQ@@@@@@@!!!!!

Makes you think twice doesnt it? heh. Dark Paladin was pretty accurate though.. kind of a mix of Red Mage/Summoner. Quite an odd combo, but in relation to the story it makes sense;

Rydia (Child) - White Magic [limited], Black Magic [all but the Lv2 Elemental Spells], Summons [only Chocobo]
Rydia (Adult) - Black Magic [all spells], Summons [all of them, but you gotta work to get those hidden fellas lol]

For the sake of the Poll, i'll lean more towards Summoner.. because in just about every translation ive played.. well, its been along the lines of. "Caller" or "Sumoner"*

Seeing as how her Summons are much more useful then Black Magic and are used more often I will go with Summoner

Summoner. Why does she lose White Magic as she gets older? I know Rosa has White Magic, but it doesn't make sense story-wise.

Well, this way Rydia's maximum of "normal" magics is the same during both of her ages. If you get her to learn all her magic when she is a child (and after entering Mt. Hobbs) you have all but the three Lv2 Elements, and three white magic spells. When she grows up, she loses those spells in exchange for the Lv2 Elements. It seems as if each character can have only a limited number of the "normal" magics.
Another idea is about her training to become a Summoner. The Summons she learned while apart from Cecil were all attack Summons. Her studying those could be linked to her growth in and specialization of Attack Magic. Red Mages/Wizards throughout the series were moderate in all skills. Because it had its abilities spread so thin among everything, it was never a very effective anything. During her training, Rydia must have been led to make a choice of whether to be a healer or an attacker. Since Summoning is in her blood and who she is, and since Summoning is largely an attacking-type magic (and even the effectiveness of healing Summons is based off of the attack magic stat - Wisdom), she must have decided to be an attacker and dumped her healing abilities.
Of course, this is entirely up to speculation.

I consider her a summoner, even though I only saw her as a kid in the game so far.

I'd take her as a black mage. Her single most useful anything is Bahamut, in my opinion, but the rest of her really useful things are all black magic spells like nuke (flare), virus (bio), and stone (break?), which I got far more use out of over the course of the game.

And, in response to the question of why Rydia loses white magic: I think they explain this in the game, don't they? Something about her giving up her study of white magic to become a summoner?

I think she's a summoner...summoners are better anyway IMO...summons are usually more powerful than spells anyway.

Well I Voted Summoner becasue She looked sexy and more cooler and She can summon Bahumet. But I did like her as black mage becasue she could use both white and black magics and she could summon a chocobo!!!

I'd have to say that I liked her much better when she had summons and black magic. Sure, her white magic was helpful in that short amount of time before you got Rosa, but then she is mostly outdated... And for the majority, if not all of the time when you have Rydia as an adult, then you have Rosa with you, so you wouldn't need her white magic anyway. So yeah, I like Rydia much better as an adult.

SUMMONER, you don't need black magic, thats what FuSoYa is for and besides you can't get something as cool as Bahamut in Black Mage, even though meteo does loads of damage, you have to wait until really high levels to get that kind of magic.
