I noticed in FFVII's instrucion Booklet and VIII's Players Guide that they show blood types in character's profiles, does anyone know why they do it? And why not in IX and X, they don't mention anything about it.

I saw that in the FFVIII player's guide, and it kinda weirded me out. I'm not sure why they did it to FFVIII characters. Maybe they were clawing desparately to give them more depth. They failed.

I think it may have been for fluff /background purposes. its also a cheap route for fanfic writing: character x needs blood, character y has this blood...

IX and X have a great excuse for why not: IX might not have the tech to know what blood tyoe is, and X, maybe Yevon viewed it as forbidden machina?

HAHAHAA!

Anyway... I think they put in blood types to make the character more in depth, OR someone MIGHT be playing it and read that and say, " WOW! CLOUD HAS THE SAME TYPE OF BLOOD TYPE AS ME!!! WOW!!!! I MIGHT BE LIKE CLOUD!!" or something like that.

LOL!!! HI MORON OH MAN!!! THATS FUNNY.....

well anyways... they made the blood types on FF7 and FF8 because they wanted to completly describe the characters. The reason why they didnt have it in FF9 or any of teh others becasue tehy probably relized that it is pointless to put the blood types of the characters. Thats what I think. (BUT WHO REALLY CARES WHAT I THINK)

It was probably for completeness with the bio-sheet. FFVII and VIII skewed from how the main series was, being futuristic and more Sci-Fi than Fantasy, so blood type kind of fits the the sciencey atmosphere of the games.

They also had bloodtypes in FFVI. I used to have a walkthrough/book about FFVI and in the character bios they had everything you would need to know., including bloodtype. I've always wondered why they included that as well. One nifty thing I found out was Gau and I have the same birthday. heart.gif

If you ever notice with manga, whenever they have character profiles, they always list a ton of more or less nitpicky facts: bloodtype, favorite food, hobbies, etc, regardless of whether or not this information factors into any of the plot. It's probably just part of the usual anime/manga style of character profiles.

I think, like some others, that it was just a poor atempt at making the characters more realistic. We have blood types, so now FF characters do too. I do remember reading the instructions for FF7 when I first got it and thinking that the blood types would play a role in game's story, but as most of us know, that didn't happen eh.gif .

I heard from a Trigun site that it has something to do with the japanese zodiac. People with a certain blood type5act a certain way.

I also read in a magazine that blood types are a way of determining a persons personality (In Japan).

That makes alot of sense, actually. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. Bloodtype and Zodiac sign (eatern or western system), sometimes even elemental affiliations and familiars, are often mentioned in character profiles for manga/anime, and some game series. If you look it up and see which personality types go with which sign or type, then compare to the character in question, it'd probably match up pretty closely. If not that, then they might act the complete opposite as a sort of in joke or irony.

For example: In the anime series, Revolutionary Girl Utena, all the main characters had a certain hair color to distinguish them; each character was symbolized by a rose of the same color (roses were used heavily as a symbole through out the series). A rose's color is supposed to represent a certain emotion or character trait, but if you notice, most of the characters act the complete opposite of the trait their rose color represents.
Okay, that was a bit of a stretch for an example, but you get the picture, I hope.

So it's probably the same idea.

Blood types are personality indicators in Japanese culture the way birthdates (and accompanying Zodiac signs) are in ours.

Here's a link that has an explanation of what different types are supposed to mean. It looks pretty similar to what I've seen elsewhere, and since this is a Sailor Moon fan site, I expect the author to be sufficiently obsessed with anime to have accurate information about random elements of Japanese culture. shifty.gif
