Don't have the money for an official soundtrack? Tired of the all the time it takes to find a good set of MIDIs (which are, even still, not exactly like the original music)?

Sorry if that sounds like an advertisement, but I gotta share this with ya'll (some probably already know about it).

http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/spc/
That particular place on the well-known Zophar.net gives you a type of file called an SPC, which is basically, game music (Which sounds EXACTLY like the original). They're small files, and you can play SPCs in WinAmp 5. If you don't have WinAmp 5, then you can download plugins from another place on Zophar.net, here: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/spc.html

I have been jazzed out ever since I found these yesterday, because it's so awesome to get the original songs without having to play the game and without having the soundtrack. Also note that in the designated places on Zophar, you can also play the music from other games, like Genesis, PlayStation, PS2, NES, etc, And they have the complete soundtracks to 'em all, which sound exactly like the originals in the game.

I just love this, and I wanted to share it with all the rest of you.

Thank you, that is all.

Been using SPC's for years. Gotta love 'em. For the FF3 soundtrack, my fave is Openng Theme #3. (Ah... I LOVED that scene....)

It should be noted that CoN has the FF5 and FF6 soundtracks in SPC form and has for close to a year, I think.

I never said they didn't, it was just that Figaro's post would make it sound to a newbie that SPCs were a brand new invention. Just wanted to make sure it was clear that CoN in its perpetual wisdom was way ahead of that wave. smile.gif

Though we will need to go back and pick up the rest sometime, eh?

I've known about these for months, too. =) Still, it's nice to see some advertising for 'em, it's an awesome format. thumbup.gif

Heh heh... I'd figured I'd been left in the dark for quite a while. I now blame all of you. Prepare for your last night alive.

I've probably seen the SPCs on the CoN sections before, but I'd never given them much thought. Silly me. tongue.gif

Oh, and might I point out that WinAmp 5 comes with an SPC plugin when you install it, so that is very helpful.

I'm listening to the FFIX (not SPC, some other PSX variation) right now. biggrin.gif

SPC's rule. The FF series, in all its incarnations, makes up one heck of a playlist. wink.gif Of course, that includes NFCs, etc. wink.gif

Quite frankly, I'm not tired of midis. The only thing that gets me pissed is trying to find the origanal version of otherworld (With the words). So if you say these are so good, why not give em' a whirl?

Just for reference, since it hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread, along with the programs I prefer to use to play each format:
NES music format: NSF (all tracks in a single album), playable by Meridian Advance
Game Boy music format: GBS (all tracks in a single album), playable by Meridian Advance
SNES music format: SPC (one track per file), playable by WinSPC (most SPCs) and SPCAmp (Winamp plugin, for virtually all SPCs)
Playstation music format: PSF (actually minipsf, one track per file), playable by Highly Experimental PSF Winamp plugin

You can find these files for tons of games on zophar.net, as well as players/plugins that play each of these file types.

Tip: Don't use Meridian Prime. It doesn't seem to work.
