I've played through as far as the scenario switch after the Lete River. It seemed pretty well done, aside from a few jarring bits of dialogue (I think a lot of people have already mentioned "Magic-based" instead of "Magitek", which was probably the biggest one). I was pleased that Jun's (Arvis's) dialogue with Lock[e] at the beginning seems to make more sense, as I remember that annoying me in FF3us for some reason. It's pretty hard to get used to some of the different names.

No real comment on gameplay thus far. Vargas did maybe seem a little more irritating than usual (and my control pad was too inept to let me blitz, so I had to revert to keys for a while). But yeah, overall it looks decent.

Looking forward to the variable-width font version, whenever that'll arrive.

I had a look at the game. It looks quite promising so far. I guess it comes down to your personal feelings regarding Ted Woolsey (the guy who translated the Japanese FF VI into the American FF III).

I personally always found Ted to be the joke that many regard him to be. However, due to new insights in translations in general, I've been increasingly positive on the guy. He strayed from the original text, yes. He could've done things differently and in some cases better, yes. But to give a good example on how Ted Woolsey worked:

Japanese: Yellow Cherry
Ted Woolsey: Green Cherry
Alternate option: YellowCherry

Ted Woolsey tried his best to avoid these missing spaces and other things, and he created a game that (spelling errors and other mistakes aside) had some enjoyable lines.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this: Although I think that Sky Render is great and his translation is great as well, I regard it as a great way to learn about the initial Japanese names/lines/etc., not a translation that is necessarily better then the original one.

well right now the patch is now at 1.1 which fixes alot of bugs and changes magic-based to magjik? (have to look on the forums about that are the current read me.) right now we're working out other errors, and sky render is re translating the first 25% of the game, for the simple fact of it being translated long ago.. and the other 75% was translated no to long ago.. and there were alot of errors in the first 25% of the text. this i think will be included in the patch version 1.2.. in patch 2.0 will have a variable font... can' think good today.. that's it for the updates for the future of the game. and recent stuff.

I have the non Woolsey version.
I enjoyed the literal translation. It helps clear up annoying confusing dialouge
