Even though that the end of the game might possibly be indicating otherwise, but that I think that Maduin, Terra's father, was at the very beginning and that half of him part of Terra during the game human once and that I figure that he wasn't created totally from magic itself as the game's trying to indicate. The main way that I figure all of this is that scientifically, how human beings are created, that Terra would've disappeared entirely even after what Maduin had told her at the end of the game. For if that Maduin was originally human and because of the goddesses, that he was given magical power and that he also had his form altered, that Terra would've existed without her magical power after him and magic had disappeared at the end. If that he was created entirely from magic itself, that that half of Terra would've disappeared totally and leaving that half of Madonna with her and that that wouldn't be enough to keep Terra alive, would it? One of those three golden statues on the Espers' mountain near Thamasa in the WoB also supports this whole theory, since that it talks about the goddesses changing humans into Espers. So, that how many of you do believe now along with me that Maduin was originally human and that he wasn't created entirely from magic itself, huh? Why Terra's hair color and/or her general form hadn't been effected by the time that she had landed on the airship escaping Kefka's Tower at the end of the game, that I'm trying to figure that one out; probably that the video game programmers didn't bother with that part. Also, I figure that the main reason that the Espers didn't simply change back into their original human forms after that magic had disappeared entirely from the WoR is that it's possible that in their Magicite form, that they're simply the spirit forms of their already dead selves then surrounded by magic. When that magic had disappeared at the end, that it took that magic along with it and then leaving their spirits behind by themselves and that only one direction for them all to go at that point: to the other side. Maduin had also sort of indicated this when that he had talked to Terra at the end of the game. >Danny<

Stated in the game- Espers were humans that were transformed by the gods. it was punishment i believe. Eventually the gods conceded to free the espers ( From Bondage not being espers) on the condition that they seal them away where their power would not be sought.

OMG...what...*lots of swear words*

Eons before the story of FF6 began, three Goddesses of magic were sent to "earth" as punishment. They kept fighting and their power was so great, that ricochetting it transformed some people into Espers. The Goddesses saw the havoc their conflict has brought and decided to turn themselves to stone.
Maduin is fully Esper and had to disappear from the world.
Terra is half-Esper and by sacrificing her power (and hanging with all her heart to this world BTW) she was able to stay.

The statues say that people were used as a type of biological magic weapon. Just like the Magi Warriors. It was not a punishment, but people that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time were transformed.

Even from this story, it tells how magic is nothing but destructive, and how its power corrupts.
