The coolest thing I gained on accident... was when I defeated the Brachosaur and I won an Economizer. Wasn't expecting that, but the relic is probably the best in the game!
The coolest thing I *learned* on accident... was during the World of Balance. Remember the part where you have dinner with Emperor Gestahl ? He tells you to talk to as many soldiers as possible. You have a timer running on the bottom, and depending on how many soldiers you talk to, you can get some pretty cool prizes. A few soldiers won't give up without a fight, and, unfortunately, this takes more time off of your clock. Or does it? If you escape from the battle instead of fighting the soldier, he will say "Wow, you're strong" and you win them over without even having to beat them! ... I just discovered this, and it excited me. Anyway, while you were playing this game, what were some cool things you discovered totally out of the blue that you would like to share? Hmm....
1. Tempest/Rage. I was testing damage multipliers against Evil Oscar with Gogo/Gau using Tempests and Stray Cat Rage while chatting with someone, and eventually I noticed Wind Slash having extraordinary variances in damage (from 2000 to 8000 IIRC). At first I was ready to say it was between Gogo and Gau but they were awfully similiar on some blows and incredibly different on others. Watching it for a couple minutes, it suddenly dawned on me the reason for the variance was Battle and CatScratch being used interchangibly, which meant Tempest's Wind Slash picked up the properties of Specials, which meant Gau had finally gotten back into my good graces since the first time I beat the game (I suppose that is probably the most horrendous judgment call I've made in all my FF3 experience, ditching Gau after proving firsthand he was a very reliable murder machine). Incidentally, the find had me so excited I coined the Wind God nickname for Gau when I revealed the technique on G'FAQs (and now you know where Wind God Gau's name on this board ultimately came from ![]() 2. Defeating Guardian in combat. A semi-accident, I came up with Muddle/Smoke Bomb to get rid of enemies without having to run away yourself during a LLG. It did turn out to nab Magic Points but didn't work on Can't Run enemies. While talking to Shark about it, I kinda mentioned as an aside that it would probably get rid of Guardian as well but didn't actually think about it until I reread our chat about the technique. It wasn't until I forced Guardian out of battle myself that I ultimately realized just exactly what I had come up with the day before. 3. Stealing two Economizers from two Aquilas in two battles in a row. I didn't even know they had Economizers way back in '94. ![]() 4. Tempest/Dragon Horn disappearance bug. This isn't something cool, just one of those "Oh, what the hell, not another bug!" deals. I wasn't even looking for more bugs at the time, I just thought Tempest and multiple jumps would be a good strategy for Cyan, then BAM! Disappears and pisses me off. ![]() That's all I can remember for now. -------------------- |

the biggest thing i discovered on accident one time was sabins tiger break. i was fighting phunbuba when sabin was weak and bam he did that i thought it was something he did cause he was wearing the tiger mask. anyways it really helped change the course of the battle and really shocked me.

The coolest thing I probably ever did, was discovering Genji Glove + Offering by myself... seeing Atma after Scimatar after Atma, doing crazy damage amazed me. I was also impressed with the old vanish + x-zone or doom trick. So very dirty.
The coolest thing I discovered by accident, was probably the extra basments in all those dungeons, including the ones in Figaro. I would almost intuitively walk through the wall, it was crazy!!! -------------------- "Look at me! I'm a receptionist! G'fa ha ha!" Quote Ultros |

The coolest thing I ever did by accident was trigger a sketch glitch before I knew what the heck was going on. All of a sudden, there were all of these items that I'd never seen before, and I had unlimited cash from selling dirks. I still miss that about the PSX version--no glitch. Almost makes me wish I'd kept my cart.

The first time that happened to me, it freaked me out (the sketch glitch). Relm became Terra and I had about 1000 dirks and 99 economizers. It was cool.

I discovered the sketch bug, and at the time I thought I was the only person who knew about it. So I went around and impressed my friends with it.

Edgar's Royalshock desperation attack, I never even knew about desperation attacks until a year after I started playing (looks like Leo's attack).

I accidently got the Desperation Attacks too.. Only Edgar's Royalshock Celes' Spinning Blade(not sure what it's called) and Shadow's Shadow Fang. Maybe I shoulda put that in spoilers? ....Then I discovered the Blue Dragon castle place. I took me a while to find the switch, I didn't even know there was a switch, I just kept pressing A.A.A.A until I somehoow hurt a big *Breaking sound* so I went to every room and found the Blue Dragon, the Maria statue etc. etc.

The coolest thing I learned/gained by accident was Edgar Roni Figaro and the magicite levelup bonuses. Being 10 at the time I didn't catch the whole bonus thing with the magicite but by accidentally having the right magicite equipped on edgar (Edgar was my imaginary doppelganger superhero... how strange I am masculine, studying to become an engineer and a shameless flirt with the ladies these days..) Edgar became the most powerful badass in my party, at least, he had the most hitpoints (5000+) and he was the guy I would take to "train" the weaker characters (like cyan, he stunk) on their little missions away from the Falcon. I have two of them: The Vanish/Doom trick, which made FF6 easier, even when I didn't use it (which I stopped doing!) the game is still easy and Gogo's X-Meteo Desperation attack, which was stupid, mainly because of the Animation.

Well, when I first got Gau, I didn't really pay much attention to what Kappa the Imp said about him, so I heard something about "Rage" and "Leap", and only being able to "Leap" on the Veldt. So I fought the Narshe Hills battle with only Gau's original rages, and only later did I realize that "Leaping" would get me more, better rages.
So much for not even using the game's built-in instruction booklet. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing.
