Is videogame music actually a genre? Or is it a lumping together of several different genres?
Sometimes this latter statement seems to be somewhat appropriate, such as in the case of MMX series music and the music to Tail Gator (GB). But then there's the question: what genres are such music tracks part of? Obviously, the TG music is much different from the MMX music. For some tracks, it's easy to tell (such as Spinach Rag, FFVI, and the various chocobo themes), but sometimes it's harder (e.g. MMX is some kind of rock, I think, but what kind?), and sometimes not really categorizable (e.g. Super Mario Land 2). And is that when the general "videogame music genre" comes into play? -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I think "Soundtrack" is a genre.

IMO I would say that video game music is it's own genre...that's how I cansider it anyway...I don't know if it actually is though.
