Any fans of the site. I enjoy Nostalgia Critic's reviews. The running gags (Zuul for instance) are quite humorous and show that the Critic is talented with voices.
Cinema Snob (who has the most awesome sounding voice) and Spoony (particularly the FFVIII and FFX reviews) are good too. Although the anniversary specials are good. Makes me wish the Angry Video Game Nerd would return in the future vids. |

i've been a regular site visitor for a few years now. though i'm less of a "fan" than i used to be. i dont know if i've gotten tired of the individual reviewers' schticks, or if it's just the sheer number of people on the site, but i just dont find myself going there often anymore. maybe once or twice a week.
i actually found the site through Spoony, and i found him through this very website. Spoony's reviews(though i honestly hesitate to call them that. more rants and deconstructions than reviews) were funny as hell to me. mostly because i had played almost every one of those games at one point or another and i could totally sympathize with him. especially FFVIII. but sometime after joining TGWTG, he started to become too voerly reliant on cameos, running gags, pointless and annoying characters, and really uninteresting "storylines." but it's not just spoony, he's just the most glaring example. so many of the producers on the site cannot handle criticism. just try and go on Spoony's forums sometime and give him some honest, well-thought-out feedback. i guarantee you the first response you'll get will have the word "troll" in it. the next will be a few posts about how if you dont like the content you can bugger off. then after about an hour tops, his webmistress will swoop in, close the thread, and ban you. that is, if spoony doest get to it first. this applies to the TGWTG forums, as well. i know that the producers themselves are good people. hell, i've spoken to several of them on many different occasions. they're genuinely good people. but their fans are some of the most sycophantic, rabid people i've seen to date. pretty much the only ones that keep me coming back to the site are Phelous, the Cinema Snob, JesuOtaku, and the occasional comic book "review" from Linkara. I watch Nostalgia Critic and Spoony sometimes. Like a lot of things I like them a lot to begin with but then after watching a lot of them there are some things I wish weren't there. Like Spoony goes for a brilliant goofy geeky attitude, and then ever now and then takes himself too seriously and ruins it. The NC is more consistent and I like his accent and his voice. However sometimes I'll be watching the video and skip the absurd crossovers with people I neither know nor want to know, usually timing it at about 2 minutes. For a guy who talks about Big Lipped Alligator Moments he's pretty bad at them himself. Although granted some of them are funny after a point. Basically I really like both of them and I enjoy watching the good ones. But at the end of the day you can't beat Yahtzee for flawless consistency, humour and originality after all this time. Also I might add that I never care about what the film, game or TV show being reviewed is, and I don't hold any stock in their opinions. I don't think that's the point of their videos. If it is then it shouldn't be.

Been hanging around that site since the Top 11 Underrated Nostalgic Classics. Mostly I stick with the nostalgic side of the site, such as Critic, Chick, CR, Snob and Spoony, but I also check out Until We Win, JesuOtaku and Angry Joe. I'm also starting to latch onto Luke Mochrie's Film Conscience. It's a damn good concept...if only he could act. My faves have been pretty sparse about updating lately though.

I don't watch as much as I used to. Those things tend to lose their flair over time. But NC is funny. He's made some great videos.

I got into Nostalgia Critic through the Jingle all the Way review when someone posted it on gamefaqs back when it came out in 2008, within days I was hooked to watching NC Reviews and branched into other site members thoughout 2009.

Yeah I frequent that place quite often. It's like review central, there's so many great things to watch. I especially like Spoony and MasakoX.

I haven't been keeping up with the videos as of late, but I really like Linkara's History of Power Rangers, and I LOVE Todd's Pop Song Reviews.

I'm actually a pretty big fan of TGWTG. I have the Kickassia DVD, even.
I was introduced to the site by someone spamming a bunch of IMDB forums with his review of Captain Planet, and I was hooked. For nearly everyone I follow, there was a bit of a transition period for me to get used to them/their character/their style. The one who took the longest was Linkara (I first checked him out in his early days, so I think he's worked out some kinks in his reviews since then). The only ones I didn't have to warm up to was the Nostalgia Critic (his other characters took time, though), OanCitizen (been following him since the XtremeNetworkOnline days), and Todd in the Shadows (who is currently my absolute favorite contributor). I don't follow everyone associated with the site, but I enjoy everyone (except the Distressed Watcher; cannot stand him). And yes, I am anxious for the 3-year anniversary special. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I too can't wait for the 3-year anniversary special. I think it should be out sometime this month if I recall.

Just want to say to everyone thanks for making and contributing to this thread. After the recommendations (well, the mentions at least) I've been enjoying Cinema Snob and Film Brain recently, will move on to the others when I've finished their videos.

I used to dislike Guy with the Glasses quite a bit, being a fan of Pebble of the Penguin, Ferngully and Quest to Camelot when I was kid and teenager, but decided one day to try out and hear his opinions, and I fell in love with him, not because of his views on the movies, but because his humor and his whacky style of reviewing.
All of his Top 10's are amazing, well reviewed and good with craziness and many laughs, even if you disagree with what he's saying. Usually he has some good points though, and I've started to look at those movies I loved growing up and started to stop being so stubborn and notice he's right, and those animated movies are covered in faults, errors and things that don't even make sense. Though I still like Pebble and the Penguin, even if a penguin suddenly, magically randomly begins to fly out of nowhere. Also agree with him when he said that the older '89 Batman was much better than the Dark Knight as well. Though kind of felt sorry for him when DK fans started to hate mail him. I'm not a huge fan of the Nostalgic Chick though. Because everytime she does a review she moans and complains about how sexist it is towards females. Disney movies, 80's shows everything. Her latest review on Jem was her nagging about how swallow and superficial it was. It's just a fun cartoon about a pop star singer, ghezz. I would hate for her to review something like Street Fighter 2 and then hear her complain that Chun- Li has a pink outfit. Spoony however he's funny sometimes, but sometimes his complaining takes over the whole review. He's worth a watch, but sometimes he needs to calm down if he doesn't like or enjoy something, like FF8 and not have most of the review of him bashing up a Squall cosplayer. You dislike it, we get the point ! This post has been edited by ZidaneTribal on 4th July 2011 06:56 -------------------- Currently playing Chrono Trigger !! Currently looking forward to Don't Know. |

Some bits of the anniversary were funny but to be honest Kickassia set the bar pretty high and it's just not the same. I mean some of the jokes this year were really bad.

That's kind of the point with most of TGWTG contributors - they're more about being comedians and being funny than giving an informative review. If a reviewer for their site says something you strongly disagree with, but you still enjoy their video, then they're doing their job right.
If you've been to the Cinema Snob's site, he gives little blurbs describing the videos he posts, but for Suburban Knights, his descriptions are things like "When two insurance company employees are invited to their boss's beach house for the weekend, the two are in for quite a surprise when they find their boss dead, and must keep his body a secret from the rest of the party goers," for Part 1 and "A tough cop is given his most difficult assignment: masquerade as a a kindergarten teacher in order to find a drug dealer," for Part 2 and so on. And it was kind of funny how, in the end, Suburban Knights essentially turned out to be Possible spoilers: highlight to view The Wrath of Khan. Yeah, SK was TGWTG's Wrath of Khan. So maybe we should expect "The Search for Ma-Ti" for the fourth year? -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |
