What is your favorite moment in a final fantasy game, and if you could choose an avatar for all of the ff games, what would it be?
You can answer one or both of these questions. The first question ( for example) would be like the moment of glory after beating the final boss or a dungeon you just couldnt solve Arent those some frustrating moments, huh? My first classic moment was in FF1 when I found WarMech for the first time, after trolling for him for about half an hour or so. My second classic moment was very soon afterwards, when he Nuked my party to death all at once.

The FF4 or FF5 team confronting Bahamut (better yet, his MegaNuke/Mega Flare), for the ONE most classic moment.
Other classic moments include famous quotes (e.g. Spoony Bard, Son of a submariner, Exdeath's "Then what is it?", etc.), famous scenes (e.g. Kefka and the Statues, inside the Great Tree, Cloud vs. Sephiroth), famous battles (e.g. Dancing Mad), and others. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I would have to say the most classic moment for me was when Locke first appeared in FFVI. The first time I played that game (which was my first FF game many many years ago) I was bored as hell with the whole Terra thing and Magitek solders. Then all of a sudden a guy walks through the door and the first thing out of Arvis' mouth "Took you long enough, how goes the robbing and plundering trade?" And then, of course, Locke goes into shock and his music starts to play and the screen says, "Treasure Hunter and trail-worn traveler, searching the world over for relics of the past..." And for some reason after that I was hooked.

responding to my topic, i would say that my favorite moment in the ff's would be the memory in terras mind of everyone hailing gestahl in ff3, but also thescene and music from ff1 just after your team crosses the bridge to their destiny
now that is a classic moment in final fantasy history.... an avatar for the ff series could be a moogle, chocobo, stylish magical crystal, or a big picture of all of the cid characters together, because there is one cid for every final fantasy. ![]() -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. 5- Weapon attack on Junon (FFVII)
Possible spoilers: highlight to view This scene is good, as it shows the sheer amount of firepower this city has at its disposal, and also has a point-blank excecution with the cannon... 4- Crossing the Bridge (FFI) Rather nice little sequence. Also , IMO, the games starting proper after a little prologue like bit... 3- Possible spoilers: highlight to view Bahamuts attack on Alexandria( FF IX) Cool scene. Bahamut 1, Alexandria 0, then Alexander kicks ass, takes names. 2- Possible spoilers: highlight to view Death of Aeris] YAY! Er, i mean, oh no, shes dead... Possible spoilers: highlight to view And the final scene was... the fall of sector 7 (FF VII) as this scene showed just how callous Shinra were, killing hundreds just to get at a few when a military attack would have been less costly on the whole... So many moments....
FF1 - Looking into the well and the fountain in Coneria. - Crossing the bridge as the prologue ends, with the silhouette of the Light Warriors, that image reminds me of the LotR books and symbolizes that era of games. FF4 - Battle between Paladin Cecil and DK Cecil. Paladin has a really cool quote in that battle, anyone remember it? - The moment in the ending when Cecil hears Golbez say goodbye. FF5 - Inside the Tree, all the stuff before, during, and after Galuf's one on one fight with ExDeath. FF6 - The Opera of course! - The moment in the ending when Terra lets her hair down. -------------------- Sabin: ... to Mom... and to Figaro. "A true classic never goes out of style!" "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain..." |

"You all sound like chapters from a self-help booklet!"
When I first saw that, I laughed for a full five minutes. Such a sarcastic and witty comment I would never have expected from a videogame. Remember that this was '94 and videogame scripts weren't exactly at the same level as hollywood. The best part was that it gave Kefka the upper hand and pretty much blew all that shmaltz everyone was yapping about outta the water. It put into words everything I felt about that nonsense the party decided to spew. I felt it served no purpose other than to engratiate themselves and obviously so did he. That's when I went, "wow! This is actually a well written story!" -------------------- |

Wow! After reading all these previous ones, I don't know which to pick. Should it be funny, or a relief, or dramatic. NOOOOOOOOOOOO.........can't.............choose. Why does my ever sharp wit and decisiveness fail me now? WHY?? Ok, now that that's done with, I think I'll do a bit of each, but since I'm REALLY lazy, I'll keep it down to one per game. Here goes:
FF5 Possible spoilers: highlight to view The scene where Galuf resisted Ex-Death in the Tree, even to the point of death, that bit of sacrifice was actually touching to say the least. The strength of his friendship and love was so strong that it allowed him to use all of his energy to defeat Ex-Death (sorta like Ramirez in one of the Highlander movies). I had gotten used to him by that point in the game. And only a side thought was the worry that all of his EXP and AP and items were just gone. FF6 Possible spoilers: highlight to view As moving as Celes' suicide attempt was, I actually saved Cid the first time through, so it became sort of an afterthought for me. The most classic moment for me was the opera, which was, I thought at the time, one of the cleverest things to do to advance the plot. Not to mention that I can't get enough of that music. FF7 Possible spoilers: highlight to view First of all, when Aeris died, I jumped out of my seat in surprise that such a thing would happen. Then the fact came over me during the "funeral" scene that this was, indeed, final. At that point I nearly cried, but don't think less of me.I cried because I was never happier to be rid of a character, period. FF8 When I tossed the game into the corner saying, "Square, why hast thou forsaken me?" FF9 Possible spoilers: highlight to view When Blank was petrified in the Evil Forest, I didn't know what to say. I knew he was only a minor character, I read the manual that came with the game, but I didn't think that such a guy would do a thing like that so early in the game. I guess I'm a sucker for the sacrifice situations. -------------------- "I was using a metaphor. Someone shut him up before I do it with a knife."- Black Mage, 8-bit Theatre "I found out what zombies are weak against......Point Blank Annihilation"- Black Mage, 8-bit Theatre "You'd be paranoid too, if everyone was out to get you!" |

Class Moment:
Nothing, but nothing, beats Tellah layin' the verbal smackdown: "You Spoony Bard!" You just don't get great dialogue like that anymore. Also: Possible spoilers: highlight to view Cloud in his final one-on-one confrontation with Sephiroth was a very classic, and well-done scene of two enemies coming face to face in one final, desperate battle to end their feud once and for all. I never got Omnislash before then, but even if you don't have it, Cloud is able to use it in this "fight". So, I got to see Cloud's ultimate technique for the first time at what for me was the most dramatic moment in the entire game, and it was extremely fitting. More so than any other fight, this is the one in which Cloud would give it his all and then some, so seeing the power Cloud unleashes with Omnislash at that moment was just incredible. To be honest, I never really liked FF7 or any of its characters very much, but this is one of those moments that really made the game worhtwhile. As far as the most emotionally impacting scenes: Possible spoilers: highlight to view ]Galuf sacrificing himself to save his friends etched itself into my mind pretty well. Celes when she jumped off the cliff, and you can see her tears trailing behind her made me choke up. Her opera scene was also very riveting. Cyan seeing his family board the Doom Train was also very sad. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

I have two "favourite moments", and I'll put them both inside spoilers, just in case.
The first, from Final Fantasy VI: Possible spoilers: highlight to view You know, I don't think requires a spoiler bracket, but what the hell. Locke's seasickness as the comic relief for a painful Terra soul-searching scene is definitely among my absolute favourites. The second, from Final Fantasy X: Possible spoilers: highlight to view One of your first shots of Auron is in the middle of a very panicked Zanarkand. He's just kinda standing there with people running all around him, watching the chaos grow. Then he whips out his sword, and he's just so damn badass. I think that that moment really sets the tone for the game. As for avatar choice, I'd have to go with a cactuar. I love those little guys. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

FFTA, when you find out that when Possible spoilers: highlight to view .you realize that even after destroying all 5 crystals, and how the world still exists. FFX: Possible spoilers: highlight to view the scene where you go to Bevelle and that the FMV was cool. |

My favorite moment actually comes from a game called Xenogears, but just to make sure I don't piss off someone I'll talk about FF. Favorite moment in FF was when I played my first FF game with a friend of mine, FFIV. I went over to his house and I saw that he gave me the controller to test it out. I started it up and saw Cecil flying in his group, the Red Wings. The first time I saw the airship, I knew I was going to love these games. In fact, a lot of guilds that I've started up were called the Red Wings.
Now, to be true to myself I'll talk about my favorite moment in Xenogears. Possible spoilers: highlight to view There is a part in the game where one of the main Villians reveals himself to be Fei's father. Right then, Fei is able to finally controll ID and a lot of shit starts to happen. I'm completely captivated at how all things are tied up at this part of the story line. Thus, Xenogears has become my favorite rpg of all. -------------------- I will be the mustard of your doom! |
