Hello all, new to the board. Nice site you all got here. Very cool.
I'm replaying FF Tactics again, and a thought occured to me: Has anyone gone through the game using only monsters? (Aside from needing to use Ramza, I mean?) For example, a team consisting of Ramza, a dragon, a malboro, a chocobo, and a Byblos (or whatever that deep dungeon creature is that joins you?) That might be pretty cool. Certainly, it would be difficult due to a lack of individuals with a wide range of skills. Is this even possible, I wonder? I've always wanted to see a Final Fantasy game wherein the traditional monsters were the playable characters and you fought human enemies (the various Job Classes compensating for variety). Would make for an interesting change of pace, and could make for a pretty good comedy story, or comedy-drama. Anyway, I might try it some time, right now I'm building up a good team of well-balanced humans. Still, has anyone tried using an all-monster army, or if not, what are your thoughts on that? -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

I never tried it myself, but I think it can be a nice challenge : you'll have to choose your monsters carefully, and obviously you'll have to spend a good deal of your time with Ramza as a Mediator.
I would advice the use of some monsters in specific : Chocobos (a yellow and a Red), for healing power and Choco Meteor; a Blue or a Red Dragon, because they're good powerhouse and can inflict pain on a 2 range panel; the Byblos monster, because of its ranged attacks (evidently in the last part of the game); if you care to try, Inviting an Hyudra at Nelveska Temple is a really good idea, so you'll have access to Tiamat eventually (with the conjonction of Monster skill, this monster has one of the greatest attack in the game, named Dark Whisper). I would also advice to check if the monsters you use have a good ability usable through Moster Skill, like the Tiamat. And using Ramza as either a tank (like a Lancer with Blade Grasp, Aegis Shield and Feather Mantle) or a Black Mage with Math Skill (a classic, but a good one) : that way you still have the possibility to mash away, in case your monsters fail you. I beat Altima with 4 Porky's once. That was fun.
Its entirely possible to play through the game with 4 monsters. I've seen people use 4 red chocobo's, and once, 4 bombs...which was actually rather comedic, as the person just flung the creatures at the enemy and had them blow up. -------------------- Think about this concept for a second, and you tell me that you would not think twice before purchasing it: ghetto breast milk |

Awesome. Good suggestions, I think I may give it a shot. (For those who don't like complications, its certainly easier than trying to build up humans and getting frustrated over which job combos to make, and then having to get special characters to catch up to customized normal soldiers... plus if any of your monsters are lagging behind or killed, i'd be easy to simply replace them with a new creature of higher power).
4 Porky's... that's hilarious. ![]() An ideal team for me would probably be Ramza (Squire w/ Monster Skill and Item, Talk and Throw Item used as necesary), a red Chocobo, Byblos, Worker8 (I count him as "monster"), and Reis as a dragon. Of course, you wouldn't get this until late in the game, but that would probably be the ideal team to storm the last levels. And, hey, there are FAQs on how to beat the game using only Ramza, and only Ramza as any one class. No reason "Beastmaster Ramza and his Monster Squad" couldn't be done. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

Quote (Black0ut @ 11th April 2004 15:45) um ok but 25hours plus? thats NOTHING. I bet you Everyone on this Forum including me excluding you has 99:99:99 on their time thingy. Good for you. A 99:99:99 time game. And I care because? If time is important to you, note that I started my current game file earlier this week, so its not like I've had the time to reach 99:99:99 on my clock. I've only just started chapter 3. Besides, I have played this game several times before that. Granted that was a couple of years ago, but what's it matter? I wasn't bragging about my time. So, getting back to the point of my post: I was simply stating that in my current game, I've only run into one porky. I recall the earlier times I played the game, I almost never encountered them. I find it rather interesting and amusing that Phalanx was able to make a party of Ramza + 4 Porkys. I don't know, maybe I just never got around to doing random battles where they are usually located, so maybe they aren't as rare as I think they are. As I had made mention in the Weird FFT Fights thread, I had entered a battle where I fought only one Porky, and was lucky enough to have a Mediator with me. So, I snagged him over, and eventually had 4 porky's.
This is inspiring me to go restart my game and just gain as many monsters as possible and go Beastmaster. -------------------- Think about this concept for a second, and you tell me that you would not think twice before purchasing it: ghetto breast milk |

If Worker 8 counts, and Reis as a Dragon counts, then definitely, I'd use those two plus a Red and Yellow Choco. I'd have to take the time to raise everyone's faith though. Is there any way to give Faith to the robot?

Haha, I made a thread about this somewhere else about four months ago. I got some interesting answers. Oh yeah, the highest time you can get is 99:59 =/
How did you beat Altima with four Porkys? Just curious. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Instead of letting Ramza play any class you want, why not restrict him to something that goes along with the theme? I was thinking of starting a game by letting Ramza only be a Mediator with the Monster Skill ability from the Squire class.
I guess it's a little limiting, but that's what makes it fun! -------------------- Little miss Muffet, sat on her tuffet, Eating her curds and... WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! |

Well, I consider it a digression from the all-monster purpose, but I'm sure the line-up can be tweaked here and there to customize to different users. Ramza has to be used at sometime, so restricting him to animal-enhancing skills would go along with the theme. Hmm..
Well, it can go whatever way you want, I s'pose. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

You could go for a Chocobo army. Have a combination of Red and yellow chocobos. They rock!!

You know, if you wish to maintain the "Beastmaster" theme, but you still want Ramza to be able to do something besides heal and provide Monster Skill, you can make him a Summoner. Are not summons also monsters? This would fit perfectly in my opinion; also, of note, Ramza is the only character I've been able to make survive being hit with the Zodiac spell, so he is usually the only one who ends up learning Zodiac, but I don't like using him as a Summoner anyway. In this kind of challenge, I'd make an exception. I almost never use his Guts abilities anyway, so he'll need something aside from Item to make him effective. (And yes, Item is pretty much a must, since few monsters can heal, almost none can ressurect fallen allies, and monsters are unable to equip status blocking accessories)
As far as restricting him to being a Mediator, I think this is pointless, since Invite and Train are the only abilities you really need. You want to work towards Train, so once you have it, you can just equip that, then return to whatever class you wish to have, then let Train allow you to recruit new troops. Invite can be used to snag the first few monsters into your roster, but its high failure rate makes it almost worthelss to depend on. Beyond that, I find Talk SKill to be pretty worthless in the heat of battle, and it really doesn't have anything to do with Monsters per say. That said, I believe you are going to want to use the Chemist as your base class, because of the innate Throw-Item ability. So, Ramza as a Chemist, with Summon as a second, Train as a support for when you wish to recruit monsters, then Monster Skill when you are satisfied with your current roster. Reaction and Movement can be whatever. Also, in my opinion, Reis Dular seems to be specifically designed to be a Beastmaster type character with her Dragoner SKills. If she masters the Chemist abilities, then returns to her Dragoner class, (and equips Throw-Item) well, you pretty much got a natural beastmaster/supporter, since she automatically has Monster SKill and Train equipped. I would say its okay to turn Reis human if you wish to use her, instead of Ramza, during Random Battles in order to recruit various new monsters and act as Item support for the team. I'm working on a FAQ for this challenge. Having researched it after coming up with the idea, I've found Ramza+4 Monsters has been mentioned in a few Challenge FAQs before, but to my knowledge, there hasn't been a FAQ dedicated to it, that goes into detail. I doubt a FAQ is necesary, but hey, it'll be fun. Even so, if there is already an In-Depth Beastmaster FAQ, someone let me know; it would be pointless to do the whole thing, then find out its already been done. If not, any recommendations on things I should cover? Hmm, maybe first outline the challenge, state the rules clearly, logistical stuff, etc.
Then go on to which monsters are key, when you should obtain them, how/where to obtain them, etc. Maybe highlight a few difficult battles and outline a strategy for them. Don't really know, but it's a cool idea. I've always wanted to do one. -------------------- Little miss Muffet, sat on her tuffet, Eating her curds and... WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! |
