How do you *personally* pronounce Locke?

It's one of those odd names...

I'd just like to point out that "Lock·e" also has the word lock in it, so I don't see how that argument is valid guys. I think naming someone an item is lame. That's like calling Edgar a tool. "Lock·e" sounds more like a person's name to me.

To all you people who put Gau as "gow" - Does that rhyme with "cow"?

It's not the first time a character has been named after a quality of his before, though....Look at Han Solo. Han was a guy who always relied upon himself, he didn't need any other people (besides Chewbacca). Square named Locke with that idea in mind. Locke is a theif, and so his name is a direct reference to what theives typically do, pick locks. I also believe, in terms of the "FF6 World", Locke is a name that Locke adopted for himself, a moniker that he used to express his fervor for adventure and treasure....maybe his real name is Cole. We know he uses Cole as a last name, but who's to say that wasn't his real name before he became an adventurer?

This whole thing would have been much easier if Square USA had left off that extra 'e' they added in...

EDIT: Also, there is a shade of blue called Cyan....it's pronounced Sie-ann, with a Long "I" sound. I'm pretty sure Cyan was named after that color..though his name in Japan is Cayenne, I'm confident in the American Version he is supposed to be named after that color....

It's just good old Lock to me. I didn't think about the John Locke thing until I saw it on another website, but I always pronounced it that way anyway.

I was young when I first played FFVI, so I got a lot of the pronunciations wrong. I still call them by those names, though.

Gau - Gaw
Locke - Lock-e
and the weirdest one of all......
Cyan - Kain

I don't know why, but when I was little it made sense. His wife is Elaine, his son is Owain, and he is (Kain). Also, there was a Kain in FFIV, the only other Final Fantasy I had heard of at the time. And I had never heard of the color.

Don't take the 'E' all that seriously: Ted Woolsey just inserted it so that Locke wouldn't have the name of an actual 'thing'. It's too bad Ted Woolsey left Square...think of the opportunities for him:

Cloude...
Shquall...
