Each game in the Chrono saga so far has had, for lack of a better word, a "gimmick" to it; Chrono Trigger had time travel, Chrono Cross allowed you to travel between two parallel dimensions. What do you think of these two... "gimmicks" (really hate using that word)? Also, they're supposedly working on another game for the series, Chrono Break. What do you think will be the gimmick for CB?
The first time I ever played CT, I thought the time travelling aspect was pretty cool. And then I got CC, and was blown away. I've always thought the whole "alternate dimensions" idea was great, and I enjoyed that part of the game. As for what I think they'll do for CB?....... no clue. If you hate the word gimmick, try theme. :-)
I'm not sure if CB will actually come out, but it might involve another form of travelling to complement the time travelling and dimensional travelling; space travel. That might be fun, though it'd be a big change for the series. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

I hate time travel, no, I mean, I hate parallel dimensions, no, that's not it at all. (Sorry, but I couldn't help the Bob and George references).
I haven't played Chrono Cross, but I loved the mechanics that the time travel in Chrono Trigger spawned. In the Sun Stone quest when you have to do things in one era to effect the susequent eras, even when doing that wouldn't seem to have such a large effect at the time. In other words, I like the way of thinking that this kind of "theme" can evoke. -------------------- "I was using a metaphor. square, i believe, finally verified that, although they had copyrighted the name "chrono break," they never did put it into production and never plan to do anything with it. but i may be wrong.
anyway, if there ever is a 3rd chrono game, it's difficult to think of something that they will allow you to travel through. you already have basic 3-dimensional travel (duh), so seeing as space travel is just a subset of that, i doubt it will be the "gimmick." each other chrono game gave you another dimension to travel in (ct's being time and cc's being 'dimensional reality'). who knows what would be in store for the next? |

The FAQ on Square Enix USA's site says there's no new Chrono in development, though that doesn't rule out doing one in the future. Also, apparently the US trademark Chrono Break has been unregistered, though a Japanese trademark for Chrono Brake remains.
So yeah, it doesn't look like we'll be seeing number three soon. I'm also mystified as to what the "gimmick" would be... perhaps simply a combination of time and dimension travelling, if they found the question as much of a stumper as we do. |

i heard reports of "chrono break" 2 years ago... what i heard was that square hade copyrighted the name, but sometime within the last half a year they "uncopywrited" (can't remember the exact word used) it...
as for the theme (gimmick) of this game it would probably be a cross between the two... time travel + dimension hopping -------------------- ~ A Hero Is Someone Who Stands When Their Legs Are Gone~ |

I liked the time travel. Doing things in one time that affected another time period, such as the aforementioned Sunstone quest, was an interesting way to look at solving puzzles and accomplishing goals. I wouldn't call time travel a "gimmick", though--it was the entire point of the game.
