I think after they stop answering you it's safe to assume the answer's "no".

I'm a Canadian, though I'm not new to these forums at all. I just didn't see this thread yet.
I live in Montreal, Quebec. Home to the militant french, the quebecois, where you speak french, or perish. I love it here though, despite all it's oddities. I have family in Toronto too, some I'm in Ontario from time to time as well. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Some general urban legends that I've never heard disproved by Canadians:
1. It is legal for women to walk around in the streets topless. 2. Marijuana is legal in some providences. 3. Free healthcare for all.... but crappy doctors. 4. Moose are everywhere. 5. I'm Canadian and I'm sorta new... Ah Canada with our Crazy Minority govenments and french people... Oh, and by the way, in my province (Ontario) girls have the right to walk around topless in public, but fortunatly, not many women make use of that right. As for the armpits thing, I don't know any girls that don't shave their armpits. Some don't shave their legs in winter, but we're all wearing jeans anyhow.

You're right about Alberta (I've been to Edmonton), but some laws are provincially or municipally regulated, so what may be legal in one province/city/district may not be legal in another (e.g. it is legal to sell alcohol in corner stores in Quebec, while it is illegal in Ontario).

Yes. It works the same way in the States; there're laws in some states that don't apply in others. For instance, legal drinking ages used to (or maybe they still do?) differ from state to state.
And isn't there some kinda limit on how many times you can bump a topic? ![]() This post has been edited by Zephir on 29th June 2004 21:11 -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... Yes, I go around topless and don't shave my armpits. I don't wear deoderant either, so it's really quite gross.
>_> Come on, people, use your brains. I have only ever seen a moose in Maine, women can only legally go topless outside in their backyards in Ontario (or nudist camps), women who don't shave their legs and pits usually get funny looks. French men are not wusses. People who generalize are idiots, though. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

And yes, there is a limit to bumping topics. Bumping isn't allowed at all unless you have something useful to add. If a new member wants to dig it up in the future, or ends up posting a new topic along similar lines which would be merged, fine. Otherwise, let sleeping threads lie.

June 29th...it's not sleeping yet! (hehehe)
I was born in cowansville, Quebec, but moved away at a very young age and grew up mostly in southern, VA (why god, why?) It's cool to see so many Canadians stand and deliver...most people who know im from canada make a crack or two at least once...but it's actually in a sorta friendly way. As for canada there are a few things all americans should know before they make any comments...Canadians really aren't that different from Americans...they both like music, good food, hanging out with friends, etc. As far as falsities about canadians, most speak english not french (and most that do speak french are bilingual to some extent), no canadians don't bleed maple syrup, yes canadians do have far better beer and junk food for that matter, Moose are only associated with canada because the few that are seen are usually seen from a car right before the moose is hit...if you have ever seen the damage to a car from deer being hit then im sure you can imagine what a moose of about 2 to 3 times as big, also canadian bacon is really just ham...we've fooled you all and made mad profit off of it. MWAH HAHAHAHA As far as Health care, yeah it's all free for residents. when my grandfather was up there (pays canadian taxes but live in alabama) broke his leg he had to cover all of the cost...further more the better health facilities are in highly populated areas...if you live in rural canada then good luck finding good doctors...my mother had to dig hypodermic needles out of the trash to give my grandmother morphine while she was fighting pancreatic cancer because the hospital couldn't afford new needles. The understaffed hospital had half of it shut down because they couldn't operate at the full capacity of the hospital. And my grandmother who was a nurse at the same hospital had her friends watch her fade while my mother acted as the primary care giver because the other nurses were too busy to take care of her properly. (americans need to think about that when they vote on health bills) If you ever get up around the sackville area of new brunswick (small town where my mom grew up and i visited often) go to the bay of fundy and wait for the tide to go out...all thats left is the most slippery mud you can imagine as far as you can see or imagine...it's great fun to play in...you'll want to wait for the tide to turn to get in though...That way you can wash off all the mud before you get in your car to go home as well as make slides of mud and slide into the channels as they fill up...my words don't do it justice but i hope you get a sort of picture of it This post has been edited by notsolildrumrboy on 1st July 2004 18:53 -------------------- The more people i meet...the more i want to be a penguin |

Not Canadian but I did a canoe/bike trip there a while back. Very nice people Canadians. it was funny, cuz, right up the boader, all the Canadians were so nice to us, then as soon as we cross over into the US, have the people we talk to just act like assholes to us.
I think I'll retire to Canada when I become a senile old man. Least the damn kids would give me a friendly wave as they tore across my yard on their bikes. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

Someone brought up Alcohol in Cornerstores in Quebec, since I live there, I might as well clear some of it up. Mostly, you have to be 18, but they sell alcohol at corner stores (called depanneurs here (day-pan-ers) ) They stop selling at 11:00 pm though, so if you're going to buy, it has to be before then.
Minors are allowed in bars, as long as they don't have alcohol, but they never, EVER card here, so minors are always plastered. There is a rumor that the legal drinking age in Quebec is really 16, well it's 18, but everyone sells to minors, and by everyone, I mean EVERYONE. The healthcare here isn't that bad, just that our hospitals are over-crowded all the time, to the point that you're waiting in the lobby for hours to get stitches or something, unless you're in the process of dying fast and very painfully, you sit and wait, and for a very long time. I've been in Montreal the good majority of my life (14 out of my 17 years) and I've never once seen a single moose. I'm starting to doubt they even really exist. I never heard about that shaving thing with women, seeing as how 99% of women shave their armpits and legs and such, not only that, but comparing the girls here in Montreal to the girls I've seen during my trips to the States, we've got the finer girls here. Suckers. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I would like to know what the rest of the Canada think of Québec because I'm curious. You know, it's rare that we heard in medias someone from the english Canada's opinion. And are you pro or con the independance of Québec?
