Answering another topic in this forum inspired this question:

I'm pretty sure you remember Number 128's sprite, which you saw in the Magitek Factory. It looks like a sprite version of Number 128 itself. Now think of MagiMaster--doesn't he look very similar? In fact, he is a palette swap of Number 128 in terms of battle appearance. But why does he have the sprite of the ghost? Why doesn't he have a palette swap of Number 128's sprite?

Huh, i never even noticed that, but when u think about it its a damn good question. Maybe it's cause the gam doesnt have actualy moving images of Magimaster/#128 or maybe it's cause the magimaster was supposed to be a ghost of #128 or something. I'm not exactly sure why, but yeah good question.

I'm pretty sure he was wearing some formal white cloak to show his position amongst the Fanatics.

Probly because Number 128 didn't have a feild sprite so instead of making a new one from scratch they just threw on the Ghost.

That doesn't make any sense to me - what makes you so sure, so maybe I can understand too?

The MagiMaster was a master magician, #128 was a robot or cyborg or something. Their difference in field sprites makes more sense than their similarity in battle figures. However they both share the similar characteristic of weakness swapping, so maybe that explains it. Mystery De-Bunked!

Sure. Okay, Magi Master was the leader, supposedly, of the Kefka Fanatics. All the other Fanatics wear red uniforms, so it's only proper for the leader to have a sign of superiority.

...it was #24 that MagiMaster is a palette swap of. #128's palette swap goes by the name Inferno, and is in Kefka's Tower.

they probably avoided using the same sprite because they are different enemies, how cheesy would it be to use the same sprite and battle picture.

The Celestial: Thank you very much. I apologize to anyone who was confused, but...

...the enemy who is a palette swap of MagiMaster (in battle) is No. 024, not No. 128.

Again, sorry for my mistake, and thanks for reminding me.

I always figured that the Ghost sprite was used throughout the game as various powerful magic users. In the Ancient Castle flashback, a Ghost sprite is fighting against Odin, but the storyteller says "a great sorcerer" battled Odin. So...! Maybe that was MagiMaster!
