1. Mage's Soul
You cannot use any physical attacks- only magic is allowed. The only attacks you can use are the ones that use the magic stat to alculate damage, such as Flash or most Blitzes. Items are perfect, though ![]() 2. Shops closed, and my armor's stuck! For this, you cannot change any characters equipment from when you get them in any way, shape, or form. This includes Espers, and Gogo's moves. Also, shops= no good, you can only use what you find. This one's a real *****, but rewarding in the end. -------------------- "You are free to sever the chains of fate that bind you...." |

Both rather good idea's I'd try sometimes, but I've still got the low-level game up ahead, and the last theme-game I comleted was a Fight-command only game.
Mage's Soul would completely disable Gau's Rage command? -------------------- |

Those both sound pretty tough, next thing I'm going to try and do is go through kefka's tower with 3 people, and kill the final boss with 3 people, the first three in fact, without getting any unecessary ones.
I believe the only 3 you need to get would be Celes, Sabin, Setzer, and maybe edgar, not sure -------------------- Adma <3 CoN |

Acctualy I don't think you need Sabin. I may be wrong but I think you can skip him compleatly. You DO on the other hand need Edgar. I am working on beating kefka with only three people and so far I am not having too much trouble. Maby I should try oout some of Kit's ideas.

You are correct. Just walk right by the town Sabin is in. Edgar is essential though, as mentioned before.

Celses you start off with. You need the airship to get to Kafka, which means you need Setzer. But you need the Castle to get to Setzer, so Edgar is essential. With those three you could fight the Tower. Sabin is optional as are Terra, Cyan, etc.

ahh ok, then that's the 3 it would be, Celes Setzer Edgar, that'd be interesting, especially considering that the angel right before kefka kills off at least 1 person with her final attack, leaving 2 to beat kefka

Those sound like nice challenges. I may try them sometime. Most likely the no-shops one, although magic-based attacks could be cool, too...

alright i have a question... is mage's soul even possible... you don't get any magicite til aways into the game, and i think it would be pretty hard to do with just items.... and then having to learn the magic???

It's doable. The Terra= out cold region, you can use Mog's dances- to get that, you ARE allowed to use 'Fight'- but ONLY then. Sabin is usable for many blitzes, Celes has built-in, and Gau's rages are OK. Just use a magical enemy
![]() In every other situation, the is some form of magical attack, be it a Blitz, a Magic, or an Item. Try stuff, and remember- there is ALWAYS something magical in the world. -------------------- "You are free to sever the chains of fate that bind you...." |

Needless to say, the ThiefKnife will come in handy in the No-Shops challenge. It should help move it along at a slightly-more-than-usual pace.
The Magicite items you find should be utilized too. This post has been edited by Shotgunnova on 9th May 2004 04:51 -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Oh, my bad. I just read the No-Shops part, I guess.
A question though. When everyone in your party is scattered (start of WoR), none of them will have any equipment on, right? What about then? -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

How can you be sure if someone really stuck to these guidelines or not anyhow?

Ok, I guess I'll try then. Maybe I'll try something else as well.
Maybe...I'll try to do both of them combined while only getting the 3 required people in the WoR and beating Kefka like that... |

Does it auto-equip on both the SNES and PSX versions? I could have sworn I re-attained some member who'd been lost and was without relic or equipment, but maybe my settings are wrong or something.

Well, now that its been revived after sitting in the caverns of the forum for 2 years...
I recently started a game that was Natural Magic, Original Equipment and Level Cap = 30. Gau can't learn any additional rages from the few he starts with. Strago can, however. Mog can learn his dances. Oh, and, Tunnelarmr is nearly unbeatable in this one, unless you're smart enough to of left the Thunder Rod in the chest ;D The level cap being 30 might cause a few problems, though. Since in an LLG the only limiting factor is a level (not equipment, magic, etc), you can beat the game by abusing magic and equipment. I think it should be doable at level 30... you'll have to abuse the hell out of Strago, Edgar, Celes and Terra in particular... Mog would be of great benefit, Gogo would be a miracle I'd think, Shadow probably wouldn't be too bad... Sabin, Cyan, Relm, and Locke are horrible though.. Oh, and, Celes doesn't have Runic. x.x -------------------- "A little tight, but the price was right" - Locke "Oh, what a Fuddy Duddy" - Relm "..." - Shadow "I'm a General, not some love starved twit" - Celes "Although Edgar showers his attention on the ladies, most are smart enough to pay him no attention. Oh! King Edgar!" - Figaro Castle Inn Attendant |

Mage's Soul probably wouldn't be as challenging as it should be, Magic is pretty broken in FFVI.
The second challenge, on the other hand...that would be a good one. -------------------- |

Quote (Kit @ 8th May 2004 11:37) 1. Mage's Soul You cannot use any physical attacks - only magic is allowed. The only attacks you can use are the ones that use the magic stat to calculate damage. Items are perfect, though. 2. Shops closed, and my armor's stuck! For this, you cannot change any characters equipment from when you get them in any way, shape, or form. Also, shops are no good. #1 is impossible AFAIK if you plan on sticking to the rules. Unless steal is fine. Locke's scenario forces you to steal from enemies, meaning you'd have to bend the rules here and there. And Sabin's fight vs Vargas requires the use of Pummel (IIRC, it's physical damage.) Could be a few more... That aside, it's relatively easy. Especially if steal is allowed, since you can make massive cash that way without having to use up MP in battle. And once you obtain an economizer or two, well, let's face it, it's not a challenge anymore. Prior to that, you can rely on Gau (whose rages are basically free Lv 2 spells in the WoB) for the girth of your damage. ![]() #2 is pretty easy since a no exp game means having very little cash anyhow as killing enemies will also give you exp. Apart from healing items, a no exp game practically relies on stuff you can find anyhow. The only problem (annoyance, rather) would be phoenix downs. To stockpile, you'll need to rely on Locke's steal. It's basically an initial equip challenge which forces you to steal instead of buying stuff. While you can't rely on relics to give Gau a MAtk boost with earrings, you can give him a few levels anyhow and it'll be fine. Combining the two challenges sounds like fun though. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote Combining the two challenges sounds like fun though. smile.gif No shops, initial equip, item/magic-only unless the storyline calls for it. that actually does sound like a really good challeng, when I get the time I'm going to do it. I'm not one for trippy little names. Something nice and descriptive is far more practical. Most challenges just describe themselves (ie, Single Character Initial Equip challenge; SCIEC... Natural Magic Initial Equip Speed Run Challenge; NMIESRC... Single Character No Magic No Save Challenge; SCNMNSC... Single Character No Exp Initial Equip No Shop Natural Magic Challenge; IMPOSSIBLE) so naming it wouldn't have much of a point.
![]() I'd be surprised if someone out there hasn't done this before anyhow (assuming it can be done) so I can't really lay claim to it. >"< This post has been edited by Silverlance on 17th June 2006 02:50 -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |
