True, Cecil did look better as a Dark Knight but he just wasn't cruel enough to fit the part and his stats were4higher as a Paladin so I vote Paladin.

I Liked him as a Dark Knight because he looks so cool, and his moves rocked. If they took off the whole do less damage to evil things he would been better then paladan

Cecil feel remorse of what he done...I'll vote for Paladin, because he should be a cold-blooded murderer to be a true Dark Knight.

If Final Fantasy IV didn't have that Paladin crap, it would've been a very good game all the way even though the characters aren't interesting.. And for Neo-Cecil's gameplay, he SUCKS. Sure, 600 HP but they grow badly like the other characters (Even worse than FFV's Bare job, buttcheeks!), and his white magic is just six spells.. Useless.. If you want a true Paladin, Cecil and Rosa obsessors, try FFV's Knight with the final level of !White magic command.

I liked Dark Knight better, Paladin starting with 600 HP and only level 1 was way too powerful. By the time I got out of Mt Ordeals, Cecil was like level 15!

The difficulty of the game makes his extra hp, cover ability, and, to a lesser extant, his white magic as a paladin necessary, largely because a lot of the other characters are too weak defensively to hold their own half the time. This far outweighs his cooler appearance as a dark knight.

He's probably more useful as a Paladin, but I voted 'Dark Knight' 'cause I preferred his troubled, conflicted personality to his righteous hero personality. If the Dark Knight Cecil would've had access to black magic as well as Dark Wave, now, that'd have been something.

cecil as a dark knight is hardcore, but i like the transformation scene (i save a screen shot whenever i go through) so much that that overrides the coolness of the dark knight. he gets super powerful as a paladin, too.

Well with my name you can tell who I voted for! Besides the obvious aesthic superiority of the DK, the unqiue darkness move was much cooler than cover or any white magic (being that his magic was rather weak). If you say that the paladin was better for the story than the DK then I have to disagree there as well. The concpet of a DK with a heart of gold, questioning unjust authority i thought was very interesting. Had it been a paladin doing the same thing it would not have had the same effect. Frankly, the transformation was not truly necessary. Just becasue your a DK i do not think that implies you have to be evil. And if did not transform it would show that he would not have to change is identity to be "good" and that actions speak louder than appearances. Ok im done sorry for the rant!

Well, I myself voted for the Paladin Cecil. Everyone else sumemd up why they like the Paladin Cecil, so I have nothing new to add, except I wish PC had better White Magic to use.
Also, not to get off topic or anything, but am I the only one who thinks it would've been cool if DK Cecil could use Black Magic? Just a thought -------------------- John: So you don't want your screen saver to come on for another four hours? Me: Where does it say that? John: Here where it was 240 minutes. Me: Is that four hours? John: Yeah, 60 X 4. Me: Is that four hours, though? John: ....They'll never take you back in school. xD; |

Dark Knight is cool, but he can't use the Ragnarok!!!(Crystal Sword)
Although i would've preferred Cecil if he had a bit more advanced White Magic, but we can't have everything! |

Quote (Cecil the Dark Knight @ 21st September 2005 00:24) Frankly, the transformation was not truly necessary. Just becasue your a DK i do not think that implies you have to be evil. And if did not transform it would show that he would not have to change is identity to be "good" and that actions speak louder than appearances. The theme of FFIV is evidently redemption, and physically transforming from a Dark Knight to a Paladin reinforces the symbolism. Cecil is also the so-called "chosen one" of legend, a destiny he'd never be able to fulfill as a Dark Knight. He wanted to change; to repent for what he did and try and make up for all the murders he ordered and commited, thus putting it all behind him. Reaching the summit of Mt. Ordeals, something only the most worthy can do as the Mysidians indicate, bestows upon one the holy sword and the title of "Paladin." Only then could Cecil defeat his old self and clear his conscience. So yes, the transformation was very much necessary. Besides, had he remained a Dark Knight then there's no way he would've gotten through every battle and to the end of the game. His swords of darkness can't defeat all that true evil hanging around, remember? As for my preference, I've never liked him as a Dark Knight. I've never been able to see just what it is that's supposed to make him look cool, 'cause he's always appeared quite bland in that class to me. Sure the concept art looks nice, but the sprite version of Dark Knight Cecil looks like a lowly canon-fodder soldier with absolutely no significance. He doesn't even look dark! Just...purple. Dark Wave, while a good move at lower levels, becomes useless rather quickly. I tend to level up a bunch before heading to Mist, so by the time I reach the cave his Dark Wave has taken a back seat to his and Cain's/Kain's weapons. I'd hate to be stuck with it throughout the entire game. As already mentioned a hundred or so times (give or take), his personality doesn't fit the job class either. No, it's not a requirement that he be evil, but it's clear at the very beginning that he isn't happy with what he's doing, and soon enough he isn't even happy being a Dark Knight. After all, look at the Dark Knight class in FFX-2; I'd be unhappy if that was me, too! He's a softy through and through, so it isn't like switching to a Paladin makes him lose his edge or anything. In fact, he seems to gain an edge by doing so. He's able to stick up for himself, be his own boss, make his own decisions, and even give the 'king' a taste of what he deserves. In other words, he gains a backbone as a Paladin. That's why I respect him more as an awesome character in that state and why he's one of my all-time favorites. The Dark Knight contributed jack squat to that opinion. It's merely a starting point - something to throw Cecil in a negative moral state so that he's motivated to seek redemption. It's after he does so that he REALLY starts to take action. And that's why I voted for Paladin Cecil. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. I liked dark knight better, because i think dk's are awesome. Though if i could have it my way, i'd do a choice system like in fable. Hey, even better, combine the two! Good and Evil living symbiotically in one person, its perfect! Pure Impurity all the way and all my philosophies and such, until Yu-Gi-Oh took it all away from me, damn them to hell...
Maybe its best if you forget about that last part. And if did not transform it would show that he would not have to change is identity to be "good" and that actions speak louder than appearances. Yes it was necessary, and not just for symbolic purposes. Think about some of the dialogue a bit, especially around Leviathan and Bahamut, and the Mysidian Temple. The Dark Knight and Paladin are mutually opposed to each other. The Paladin weilds the power of light, and the DK weilds the power of dark. Only the power of light can defeat evil. Evil cannot defeat evil. With the swords of darkness, Cecil couldn't do anything to zombies, for example. He had to sit back and let everyone else take them down. Zeromus was an evil beyond soulless creatures; he was the physical embodiment of all the hatred and evil that the slain Zemus had. Zeromus was invincible until Cecil pierced him with the power of Light, using the Crystal. You do not have to be evil to be a Dark Knight, but you certainly can't be good. The Dark Knight weilds the very essence of evil, remember. How long do you think it would take for the evil that Cecil is constantly surrounded by and handles before it infected him? A truly good person would not do evil, nor would he use, consort, or ally with it. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Definetely Dark Knight, he looks bad-ass, he's tight, he's pimp, he rocks. Too bad he became a Paladin, cause his paladin form looks... like any other knight.

I voted...at some point, yet I never responded. I don't remember which one I voted for, so I'll just go with what I'm thinking right now.
I like the Dark Knight class much better than I do the Paladin. That's for sure. However on Cecil? It's like watching a guy put his left shoe on his right foot. He didn't fit as a Dark Knight, like say, Gafgarion from FFT did. He was a Paladin on the inside and it didn't reflect that until he renounced the dark. Plotwise it was rather imperative that he become a Paladin too. Possible spoilers: highlight to view As DP stated, the darkness would have eventually consumed him, even though he was using his Dark Sword for good- IE saving Fabul, and helping the elderly cross the Recall Golbez was powerless against Zeromus as he did not wield the light. Cecil, however, was quite capable of doing damage thanks to his inner good. In the intrest of Cecil's hapiness- I gotta go with Paladin. I guess Paladin was better (but not cooler) than Dark Knight. Status, weapons, you name it. Besides, I didn`t knew the Dark Wave he has `cause I played the Snes version.
