I prefer the Dark Knight... his story is more detailed. He has conflict... he's not just good, he's struggling between what he knew and what he has learned.
Plus, his Death Sword is amazing. Kill a Raven/Zu (about 1,000 HP) in one hit with Death Sword, or take forever with the Legend... -------------------- burger |

I just like my characters more badass. And Cecil as a dark knight is way more badass than Cecil as a Paladin. But he's still cool as a Pali.

Although Cecil is more powerful as a Paladin, I prefer the Dark Knight persona.

I go for the Paladin. This has probably already been noticed, but the Dark Knight can't really heal himself with any kind of magic, and trying to level Cecil up while still in Dark Knight form is just a royal pain in the butt. The Paladin goes up, like... 6 levels after one fight, does he not? But of course, then his leveling abilities later even out.
Both choices can be really powerful if you train them hard enough (Especially if you have enough time and attention to level up the Dark Knight... *Playing FFIV* Let's go, Cecil! *three months later* ZOMG, he gained a level! Also, look at it this way... How many Dark Knight do YOU know have a Crystal Sword? Hmm? -------------------- John: So you don't want your screen saver to come on for another four hours? Me: Where does it say that? John: Here where it was 240 minutes. Me: Is that four hours? John: Yeah, 60 X 4. Me: Is that four hours, though? John: ....They'll never take you back in school. xD; |

I enjoyed the moral struggle that ensued when Cecil was a dark knight. That, and the transition period afterwards made Cecil, by far, an interesting character.
I like the story of FFIV, but it wasn't as strong as others in the series (VI) and I feel that Cecil was the neatest character and the most developed... though I think I might actually like Kain a little better. As for playability, the Paladin. It was designed to better, therefore it is. |

I can't really decide. I loved the way Cecil looked as a Dark Knight and the moves he had. He had style, he had class, he had power. The Paladin didn't look as cool as the Dark Knight or have the good moves, but had a better power, hp, got mp, and more use of different equipment. I think they should have combined them and made Cecil some kind of Dark Paladin with great strength and defence, sweeter moves (his moves were sweet before), and still look awesome. This is just how I feel. B)

I just hated the way he looked as a sprite after the paladin, he looked to cluttered up, dark knight he looked more simple and less flashy and looked cooler overall. Plus I like Cecil better as a character as a dark knight. It's more interesting, I hate using the Paladin cecil compared to dark knight cecil.

I'm completly neutral on this one. I like the Paladin because he get pretty good weapons and can be a healer in emergency's, but I like Dark knight because he looks better. Alot better.

Quote FF Master, do you mean that Cecil should be a sort of Paladin disguised as a Dark knight? No, I didn't mean it that way. It's just that no matter how much good things you do, you will never me a 100% good. You will always be mad, irritable, or ect. Those aren't good things are they? Well, he should have been a Padalin with the intensions of a good person (not try to be evil), but still have some kinda dark power with good. We are all mixture of good and bad, aren't we? -------------------- Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Chrsit for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost Acts 4:12 Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost |

Realistically, though, Cecil's behavior was flawless from the first moment you gain control of him. He objects to the Mystidia raid, and is relieved of command for this crime. Mist wasn't the best situation, but he literally didn't know what he was doing, and becomes extremely apologetic. He only becomes a Paladin at Mt. Ordeals to make it official.
Now, make that Mystidian raid playable, instead of automated, and you actually get a bit more of tha character's Dark Knight. -------------------- I hear the jury's still out on...science. That's it, you people have stood in my way long enough! I'm going to clown college! |

Oh, I see, a proper balance.
Quote Realistically, though, Cecil's behavior was flawless from the first moment you gain control of him. Possible, I haven't played that game in a while, but Possible spoilers: highlight to view a bit of a flaw? I'd think that was suicidal in a game like FF4. isn't wanting to face the ending boss without at least one mage to help you -------------------- A guy goes into a bar and gets into an argument about whether or not he should show his I.d. Actually, he knew exactly what he was doing when he was bringing the Bomb Ring to Mist. Also, alot of mages were slaughtered in the assault on Mysidia, even though, as he said, they never put up a fight. He was trained in the dark sword for years before the game started, so you don't really know what else he's done. I like Cecil as a pally better because he is more powerful and has white magic to cast on injured partners. He has alot of holy sword and alot of enemys are weak against that and CDK has alot of shadow weapons plus they dont really look that cool. Both cecils are good but I think the pally is better.

Cecil was just better as a dark night but I think that while he was wiping out evil that his evil should have consumed from being around it so much. Killing is evil isnt it? The dark knight is just better because of the thought of it. We have to many "palidans, heros, and holy champians". Id like to see an evil storyline once in a while. evil is just cooler that way
