(I am almost positive this I saw this thread before unsure.gif ... though I didn't see it anywhere)

So, how far do you think the FF series will go to? FF15? FF20? FF50 ohmy.gif tongue.gif

Nah, I don't think it'll go to FF50.
Personally, I think it will stop before or around FF20... Probably before. Though, I may be wrong.

I don't want to see it last much longer. As it is now, it looks like the games are getting worse. Well, that's how I see it.

And please explain your opinion unlike me. smile.gif

Lol, C'mon here, you gotta be serious now. Do you REALLY think FF will get to FF190/ go on forever?! Don't you think that they will run out of storys? Or people will get tired of FF? Or perhaps another Company will produce RPGs that may be better than FF series?
You gotta think about this, just don't say they're going to go on forever just because you like the series.
They're gonna run out of stories, characters etc., and if they don't, they'll just keep making them but get very bad.

Well... Everyone has their own opinion of what's good and what's not, but people in general I seem to notice like NEW things. Final Fantasy was great when it was new. Since it's not so new anymore, the only people who seem interested are the hard core fans or any new gamer that happened to jump on the bandwagon and have no comparison to make.

Final Fantasy as a franchise is closing in on being around for 15 years or so now. The other title lines that have been out that long (or longer) are survivors like Mario, Castlevania, Mega Man, and stuff like that. Series like these have a funny way of enduring no matter what, and I've seen no evidence to suggest that FF is any different. Basically, as long as Square-Enix is afloat, they will probably make FF games because for better or worse, it seems like that company's fortunes will be strapped to the back of the FF series (at least the Square part of it).

Now, if in a bleak future for some reason the Square part gets eaten up by the Enix part, then perhaps all bets would be off. I don't see how that would happen off the top of my head though.

I predict that eventually Square Enix will go bust from splashing out on crappy movies that don't bring back the money it actually cost. But they'll try and round off the series with a nice FFXX because XX looks cool.

I can imagine, though, at like FFXV, in some game magazine someone will say.
"Look what it is kids, crappy Square Enix are trying to bring out yet -another- Final Fantasy game. Why would we want to play that when we have hoverboards and virtual reality?"

Well, if Squarenix had the decency to change the title and begin a chain of installments anew like today's media culture, then yes, the idea of the series will go on forever. Is it clean? No. Is it original? Absolutely not. They count on the fact that nobody lives long enough to recognize the next time they bring out a blonde pretty boy hero.

Actually, I think the Final Fantasy spirit is one of innovation, and as long as Square/Squenix sticks to that, they'll be fine making new FFs. This is actually the reason why I'm willing to excuse bad FFs--experimentation. I didn't personally like the idea of FFXI, the online game, but nevertheless it represents the implementation of new ideas.

These days I look for more innovation in terms of character design, plot (FFVI and FFVII were excellent in this regard), battle system, etc.. Of course, FFs should still have those famous FF traditions of including Bahamut, having a main/major character die, making you fight Behemoths, etc..

I think they said somewhere that they'd only go as far as XV because they're making Kingdom Hearts their flagship RPG.

i dont think they should have called final fantasy 11, final fantasy 11, mmorpgs are much more different than regular rpg's than some people think, one fact is that they never follow any specific storyline, another is that reg rpgs are single player, generally, so i think they should have simply called ff online

Hmmm...

...Yes, and Im Elvis. Kingdom Hearts is to Final fantasy what a Supermarine Spitfire is to a Tornado GR4

Aaanyway, on topic and not tlaking about RAF fighter jets, i honestly think "The End is Nigh" at this rate. The series has been deteriorating since 10, and 11 was a fatal turning point IMO. 12 looks worrying, and i fear for the safety of FF beyond 13.

so whilst the end may be coming, its not cos of a Supermarine Spitfire...er, Kingdom Hearts. It Disney make any sense, that... happy.gif

If the series does end i think they should go out with a bang like have all the cool heroes from all the ff's team up with some minor rivalrys in between them, (some thing tells me that Celes a tough girl and Rinoa the damsel in distress girl wouldnt get along but wouldnt it be cool watching them cross swords also i dont think that tidus happy go lucky boy and squall gothic lord boy would get along either) they would be in a new galaxy and all the cool villains would also join forces in ultimate ps3 (maybe even four) graphics and with professional voice acting and the best storyine of all the series to tie it together smile.gif

I think Square is running out of original ideas with the FF series. They can only cling to the FF name so long before people start realizing that the games are crap and have been since FFVIII. Plus just the name itself will get old after a while. The Zelda series has been around for a long time but there have only been 6 major games in the series. I think Square is moving way too fast and it's going to catch up to them just like someone on a forum who makes too many useless posts. Where is the substance? Unless they improve the games I don't think the series will be mainstream for very much longer. The same thing happened to the Mega Man series. I don't think most people follow that series anymore and it's a good example as to what may become of the FF series. Square may release new FFs but most people won't care anymore. I think XII will determine the future of the series.

they can make until like 20 then they'll need a new series cause like 90east said they will run out of ideas and fans.

I say FF20. That gives it another...8 years? Around that somewhere. It just seems like a good number.

I'd probably say FF21 for betting purposes, though.

I've heard they were ending it with 12, but meh. I'm gonna agree with i90 that FFXII will determine the future of the series.

I believe it must suck for Square because many people are always clamoring for innovation, but when they give it to them, people say "what happened to your roots?"

I think Zeil was kidding about the FF190 but then again who knows? o.o
If Square keeps spitting out games like FFXI then i would personally like to see it put to rest before the ruin a good thing more than they have. Although, if they change their games back to FFVII or FFIX type games (good chars, story, etc) then i wouldnt care how long as long as they stayed classics.

I'm going to go with 14 or 15. Square has shown it's capable of adapting FF to every new system, which is a good thing, and is probably why it's made it so far already. They'll probably be able to keep it going for at least two more generations of systems. However, I think the way video games are going, the whole RPG genre is in danger the closer we get to virtual reality. I'm just afraid that the more realistic graphics get, the RPG as we know it will go the way of the side-scrolling fighter and the puzzle game, and basically every new game that comes out will be FPS, Sports, or Action.

i have heard rumors that squaresoft only ever planned to go to #12... and then they were going to start a new line... possibly make Kingdom Hearts the new Final Fantasy, only differance is that they are based on the same thing... This i what i have heard... however since square merged with enix, they may decide to keep going with more FF games... this is my hope

You're right, and the fact that none of these series have ended yet suggests to me that if there is a powerhouse behind the games (and Square Enix certainly qualifies) and enough idiot masses to keep buying the unoriginal, uninspired games that they keep churning out, the series will not end. That's not to say it shouldn't; nor is it to say that there won't be a few good games sprinkled in with the garbage (read: FF IX). It's just that the company should develop new ideas and stop cashing in on the FF name. 7, 8, or 10 would have been the same RPGs without the FF prefix, and I hope that sooner or later Square Enix realizes this. Until then, the FF name is just an excuse to fill in parts of the plot/battle system/character development that have been rehashed since the nintendo/snes days.
