I am usually changing up my play-line on a daily basis. But this week consists of: FF6 PS1/Vita version, Persona 4 Golden (Vita), and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on PS3. I'm waiting for my copies of FFX/X2 for both Vita/PS3 to come in, as well as my Tales of Symphonia Chronicles and Lightning Returns on PS3. I have those all preordered.

I've been trying again and again to get sucked in to Morrowind, but it just aint happening. There's a barrier to entry with the unwieldy mechanics sure, but mostly it's just so...lifeless. The amount of hours I've poured into this game would have had me on some two dozen quests by now, where as I've finished less than half a dozen here, mostly found out through a tutorial video online.
Also I got back on the Minecraft wagon again recently. And I got my PS3 (as well as the rest of my consoles) setup in my new apartment, so now I'm grooving on Rock Band 3, Brutal Legend and the Ico/Colossus HD combo. -------------------- |

Just getting back into Guild Wars and am gearing up to finally play Bioshock Infinite. I'm procrastinating on Persona 3 still, oddly enough. I think the music is throwing me off. It's also about time for us to pick up a ps3 seeing as the 4 just came out and prices will be down. Issue here, though, is that all of the games we want to play will be out for the ps4 only. It's going to be an interesting gaming year for us. x3

Getting REALLY into pokemon x lately. Used to not have any interest in playing them, but I'm gonna be real with yall. This stupid new one, with the Poke-aime, and the soccer mini game and the stat boosts, has my heart. I have this amazing Farfetch'd, level 67, who pretty much just smacks everything around, and am getting every other member of my team to be an Eevee-lution. Having too much fun with it.
Also, I played around with the PR Trainer videos for WAY too long, hahaha. -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I'm telling you you're wrong. |

I went to town a bit on the Steam sales because I'm living abroad this year so I wanted as many Mac games as possible for my laptop. I've been trying to finish the games I can't play which is DX: Human Revolutions Director's Cut, Sleeping Dogs, Papers Please (I think is Windows only), and Final Fantasy 7 (surpriiiiiiiiiise!). Only problem is that I can't quite get enough into Sleeping Dogs. I liked the linear small guy big city bits at the start but funnily enough now that the whole world has opened up it's all a bit meh. I'll carry on with it and be the best dirty cop I can be. It's certainly not a bad game and I'm sure it'll be worth it.
In Starcraft 2 I was on late one night when not a lot of people were on and got matched against a Grandmaster (top 200 player on the server). First time it's ever happened. It was a joy to get wrecked by someone as good as that. He was a barcode (name was "IIIIIIIII" to hide real ID) so I think the guy might have been a pro. If not he was still far and above the hardest player I've ever been against. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Beat DLC Quest yesterday.
It's a relatively simple platformer. About two hours long, for both parts of the game. Gameplay was intuitive and non-frustrating. The best part, though, was the satire. I laughed quite a few times at their mockery of poor DLC practices. And freemium, for that matter. (It has the slapstick comedy of a troll game, though instead of trolling the player-character, it's trolling the player.) Having bought this game for US$0.75, I gotta say it was worth it. I was quite entertained. Gave up on the Morrowinds and Walking Deads. They're just not my cup of interactivi-tea. Instead, they were replaced with Ducktales (woo-ooh) Remastered and Gone Home...a.k.a. White People Problems: An Interactive Novel! At this point, I'm pretty sure the original title was going to be W.A.S.P.s Nest.

Messing around with Rayman Origins. Game is surprisingly, uh, adult (based on a few gestures and expressions that certain characters make) but has some OUTSTANDING art and sound direction. The whole game has a twangy, acoustic sound with your character's actions fitting into the overall soundtrack beautifully. The level designs are okay, but the look of each stage is gorgeous - the ice zone is made of mixed drinks. Seriously. It's a delight.

Got a PS3 recently, so I've been playing some of those games. Arkham Origins was pretty decent, although I don't think I'd bother going through a second time. The Last of Us hooked me with the story; gameplay was a slight step down, but became more natural on the 2nd playthrough. Finally, Valkyria Chronicles (came highly rated) has been very enjoyable. It's got that cel-shaded look that I always loved (Wild Arms 3 fo' the win) and fun characters/story, plus a little micromanaging for good measure.
Was actually planning to mop up some PSX/Dreamcast loose ends this year, but since I skipped the PS3 entirely during its heyday, I might have to go back and try some of its exclusives. Uncharted stuff might be up to bat next... -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Playing Assassin's Creed II. First time I've played any AC game. I like it quite a bit; the story stuff is fair, but the historical fiction aspects of it are really interesting. I like the open world, but it feels a little too samey - it's very, very obvious that the team re-used assets constantly, which is fine but I wish the different parts of Florence and Tuscany were a bit better-differentiated. Still, I 100% enjoy the real-life information on the different buildings and historical figures present in the game.
The open crowd combat and stealth stuff is okay, but kind of easy and light on punishment. It's extremely easy to murder city guards in broad daylight, then disappear into a crowd, then remove all notoriety by tearing down a few wanted posters. I wish it was easier to get into dire circumstances outside of story missions. AC2 also DROWNS the player with collectibles, options, and upgrades to your stronghold, which is really fun at one level and overwhelming at another - there is no way in holy hell I am collecting all these eagle feathers. I'm going to stick to tombs, codex pages, and wall glyphs before I give up on the game. My favorite parts of the AC2 are the more confined, linear areas (Assassin tombs, Templar lairs, etc.) which feel like really good Prince of Persia levels. What I'm saying is I want Assassin's Creed to be more like Prince of Persia, but I get the idea that the later games in the series move it in the other direction. Maybe I just want another Prince of Persia game? No - what I want is for multiple Prince of Persia-esque games set in interesting places. -------------------- |

One question laszlow, is AC a first person game? I once thought about buying it, be i really don't like 1st person game, i like to see my character when i play, and just can't get along with only seeing my hands, because i played skyrim at a friend's and couldn't get the hang of it for ages.

I've only played this one (AC2), but I'm pretty sure all of the Assassin's Creed games use third-person perspective.
EDIT: also, you can use a third-person camera in Skyrim if you want. One of my friends hates first-person views and played Skyrim for 100+ hours in third-person. This post has been edited by laszlow on 5th February 2014 18:26 -------------------- |

So I got around to making a list of the games I've started and I want to beat, to stop myself from simply playing TF2 or Spelunky to procrastinate.
Just finished one thing on that list last night. Barely beat Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, by successfully recruiting Vivian, Sara, and Curtis. Got Curtis on board on the afternoon of the last day. May came close. At one point I thought I'd have Sara, May, and Cindy. Elise is, sadly, non-recruitable. But if anything i think she has the best grasp of comedy in the entire game. DAT DEADPAN Apparently there's a New Game + mode. Also, game's currently in the Indie Royale bundle here: http://www.indieroyale.com/ Go pick it up! It's a fun thing. Just finished Dust: An Elysian Tail. Beat the game in four or five days, with about 10 hours of total playtime. It's available on XBLA and Steam; originally came out around two years ago. I played the Steam version using a 360 controller.
This game is very, very pretty. It took animator Dean Dodrill roughly 3.5 years to make Dust, and the quality of the character and environment art and animations is STELLAR. And when I say one guy made Dust, I'm not kidding. Mr. Dodrill did all of the planning, coding, art assets, animation, and most of the writing. He hired HyperDuck SoundWorks to do the soundtrack and game audio and a casting studio to provide the voice acting. That's insane. It is ludicrous to me that a game this gorgeous and detailed was essentially made by one person. Seriously, one guy made all this. What the ****. So yeah, the soundtrack is great and the game is gorgeous. Back on topic: Dust is an action/adventure/platforming game with combo-driven combat that can get pretty intense and stylish. Lots of sword combos, and a few simple projectiles that transform if you hit them with your sword before they land. Stages are mostly linear, but there are some Metro-Vania elements that reward revisiting stages with late-game skills. Not as elaborate or navigation-heavy as a good Metroid or Castlevania game (or even Guacamelee), but pretty nice to explore. Still gorgeous to behold. Dust starts out a little slow, with the stages and enemies in the second half of the game WAY more interesting than those in the first half. Once you have a wall-jump and double-jump the game feels less linear and more freewheeling. Dust has a few neat story ideas (very cartoony and melodramatic), but the writing is... okay I guess. It's clear that Dodrill is an animator and not an author. So my bottom line: Dust: An Elysian Tail is really good. You should play it. -------------------- |
