LoS gets a lot better once you actually get to the big gothic castle setting. Some gripes are:
The narrative is a trainwreck, the Colossi ripoffs are hella annoying, some of the dialogue is just AWFUL, it's not even the actor's fault, its just poor writing. Maybe we should speak in PMs about this.. I liked the game, it just annoyed me because it had the potential to be much better. -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

You should just start a thread about it if you feel it's getting off-topic; I'd love to read more about it.
@laszlow: Remember that Oath and Origin both have similar gameplay engines (and Yunica, specifically, plays just like Adol), while Ys I and II use the old "bump" system. I haven't tried the latter, personally. (Other than playing a bit of Ys I for the NES...that stuff is HARD.) Anyway... What should I play next? Choices are, in alphabetical order: * Aquaria * Fairy Bloom Freesia * Faster Than Light * Millenium - A New Hope * Recettear (continue playthrough) * Salvation Prophecy (this looks like some sort of space sci fi thing?) * Satazius * Starscape * Steel Storm: Burning Retribution * Strike Suit Zero (not sure this will actually work on my computer) * Ys Origin (Hugo mode, hard difficulty) -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Yeah, I know about the antiquated bump stuff in Ys I and II, but I want to play the first one before trying Origin. I've read that Origin has a TON of callbacks to the first two games in the series.
Anyhow, just so this isn't solely a response to GMH, I played more DKCR tonight. Cleared five or six stages; got to the boss of the Cliff; now it's bedtime. -------------------- |

I got Civilization 5 off the Steam sale about a week ago, and man, I have been playing this game non stop. I don't know what it is, but it's stupidly addicting.. And of course I picked it up right during finals time..
Also been playing some other Valve games recently, like TF2 and CS: global offensive. For CS, some of the community-made maps are absolutely wonderful. It kind of makes me sad that these maps are free and the map makers make their money off donations, while Call of Duty map packs are up to fifteen dollars each for mediocre and uninspired maps. Finally I've been treading very slowly through Final Fantasy 13. I finally made it to disc 2 a few weeks ago! At current pace, I estimate I will finish the game by late 2014. |

Snatched up Torchlight II during Steam Sale and have generally been playing that on and off, with a little TF2 thrown in for good measure. Been thinking about getting the new MtG game (Planeswalkers 2014) in an effort to hook me on that series.

Yes. I haven't gotten very for into it yet though, I've been working on my Remake of Schala Zeal for the San Japan cosplay contest so a lot of my game time has vanished. What little I played though is interesting. I grabbed it off of a Steam sale and gave it a shot while half asleep. The dialogue is interesting although it feels a bit like a dating sim (which oddly can make things a blast) and the controls are a little rough. The silent protagonist interests me though and the beginning world plight is definitely entertaining. I'm in for the long haul at this point.
It's also serving to keep my attention away from SCP Containment Breach which is no easy task. This post has been edited by St Khael on 30th July 2013 17:15 -------------------- I'm your Mama Terra, come hang out with me around the internet! Retro gaming cosplayer with a focus on Terra Branford. |

Playing Go Home Dinosaurs!.
Surprisingly fun for what looks like a casual game. For many stages, it's easy to win a stage, but it's difficult to three-steak perfect it. Then again I would expect no less from my friend, who was on the devteam and whom I know to be a stellar Smash player and very interested in game design. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I just finished Fire Emblem: Awakening. Such a great game, but I'm a little stuck on what to play next. I'm still playing Animal Crossing every day but as far as a complete-able game, i haven't picked one yet. I'm stuck between wanting to play Earthbound since I downloaded it and haven't played it for over ten years and going after something I haven't finished yet. I'm in the middle of Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy XIII, and Ni No Kuni.

A couple of mates and I raced MGS3 the other day. 3 consoles, 3 TVs, it was epic!
There's been talk of a Demon's Souls race soon, so I've been working out a route in secret preparation ;] -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

I'm still not in a good place to really enjoy a whole-hearted gaming experience so I've been playing Eden Eternal. The friend who got me to start playing decided to pick it back up after a while of ignoring it, and so did I (I had a level 20-something character that I abandoned from my first playthrough.

I've been waffling on playing a new game out of my backlog, so I've been revisiting Torchlight II in between bouts of Donkey Kong Country Returns. Just recently obtained the Classist achievement (beat the game with all 4 classes) and I'm going to start a HC character soon. See how that goes....

Been giving the Divinity series a try, more specifically Divine Divinity (what a silly name) and Divinity II. Overall story's compelling enough, but I can't really get past the somewhat lame writing or the VERY lame voice acting in DD. Both those areas were greatly improved in DII, however, and I've been pretty absorbed by it for the past month or so. Both feature a fairly unrestricted character development system, which is never a bad thing in my book.

Three-steak-perfected all of world 1 in Go Home Dinosaurs! yesterday. Well, three-carrot-perfected, since I was using veggie mode, which just changes the steaks to carrots.
Beat Tank Man in Mega Man Unlimited today. Rainbow Man fell earlier. Gosh that stage was irritating. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! I have mixed feelings about it. The visuals and audio are magnificent. The two new stages are all right. The revamped boss battles are great. The expanded five main stages and voice work are good, but it's too much. I wanted fewer dialog breaks slowing down the flow of gameplay, especially since there are 10+ of them per stage.
__ - Huge fan of the original DuckTales videogame __ - Huge fan of the original DuckTales cartoon __ - Huge fan of two-button NES platformers To enjoy DuckTales Remastered, you really need to check all three of those boxes. If that's true for you, then you will probably really enjoy it. If not, then stay away. I liked it, but at times there was too much dialogue. Launchpad needs to shut the duck up. -------------------- |

So basically it was rebuilt with the Duck Tales cartoon in mind, not just the game.
Yeah, I watched a vid of the jungle stage comparing the two versions. Scrooge McDuck definitely has quite a bit more to say than his previous appearance. On the other hand, the visuals are less abstract, and the audio...holy crap, this might be one of the few times when I can actually say I like this remixed version of the music more than the original. Usually remixes mess up something about the feel of the original, but this time it's different -- or rather, the same. ![]() This post has been edited by Glenn Magus Harvey on 23rd August 2013 14:33 -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. So I just finished Mega Man Unlimited.
It's a Mega Man fangame. And one of the best one's I've played. The levels, interface, enemy design, and all show a high degree of polish, and most importantly, the level design displays a clear understanding of classic Mega Man design philosophy, such as the implicit tutorial. The music is pretty good, and the plot is actually...not an excuse plot, for once. At least, it was intentionally used to tie the game into the series's timeline. There's also a very entertaining bonus stage. It's usually regarded as very difficult, but I found it in line with the other stages, to be honest -- it definitely wasn't the most irritating stage. In fact, it was quite fun -- probably my favorite stage, in fact. rating: 4/5 Drawbacks: It is pretty difficult. Depending on how you're used to playing Mega Man games, you may find yourself either grinding for item refills (the weapons are actually useful, for once!), and/or patronizing Auto's shop quite a lot. That said, the difficulty is usually fair. Except maybe those places where the designer went nuts with certain features. Maybe. Come to think of it, the difficulty of this game is...kinda like the difficulty of Mega Man 4 (my first Mega Man game) to me as a kid who had just come home with a cartridge rental from the supermarket and found myself unable to get to the end of most stages, and creamed by the one robot master whom I did reach (it was Skull Man, for what it's worth). Mega Man 5 was significantly easier only because I could actually get to Gravity Man and defeat him reliably... ---- Speaking of Mega Man, an interesting kickstarter was launched a couple days ago: Mighty No. 9. And it's gotten quite a bit of attention...and funding, too: over 1.1 million USD raised in just two days. In short, the creator and longtime Mega Man series director Keiji Inafune left Capcom and is starting a new project on his own. The project...is strongly reminiscent of Mega Man, if nothing else. Seriously, if you're familiar with the Mega Man series, just take a quick look at the trailer and kickstarter page and enjoy being overwhelmed with the references. Bonus find: Mighty No. 9 already has fanart, such as this piece. Myself and three roommates have recently begun playing Tales of Xilia. We're only a couple hours in, but it's going well enough so far. One complaint I have is that the battle system, while fantastic, has one key component in which two characters partner up for an attack sequence - which works just fine if you're playing by yourself or with one other person, but when you're playing with each character under human control, it's frustrating that the move requires the second person involved to surrender control. Will probably say more once I know more.

Still of course playing Animal Crossing every day and now that Square Enix is working on expanding the servers for FFXIV I've been playing a lot of that. I've played as a lancer and an arcanist and I like both. I'm really loving the game. It's everything I ever wanted in an MMORPG. As far as the hiccups are concerned, better this because the same is incredibly popular and more popular that they thought it would be than another bomb. I can wait if that's what it takes. things seem to be smoothing out though they will need more servers if they ever want to open up to digital purchase again. My brother hasn't gotten to play because of that. I luckily preordered a hard copy and had it paid for before the game came out. Right now I'm on Coerl and Midgardsomr as far as servers are concerned but I may do character transfers when my brother and friends figure out where they want to play.
