Oh gosh, Hugo Fact in Ys Origin controls NOTHING like Yunica Tovah (who is basically an Adol Christin clone).
Screw this. Finishing Energy Breaker first. Or playing Recettear. I'm currently alternating between several games. I'm doing a first playthrough of Final Fantasy V, playing Animal Crossing: A New Leaf every day. (I got the special edition 3DS XL), played some Lego City Undercover this evening, and some Super Metroid last night. I'm also playing The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.
I'm loving the Animal Crossing. The multi-player features are great and getting to be the mayor of the town if is pretty awesome. If you haven't picked up the game yet, I highly encourage doing so. -------------------- Chewbekah ^_^ Currently Playing: Final Fantasy XIV: ARR, Attack of the Firday Monsters, Animal Crossing: A New Leaf, Lego City Undercover, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix Recently Finished: Fire Emblem: Awakening Favorite Game: Suikoden III |

Playing a little inFamous 2, a little Metroid Prime, and a LOT of Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. Tactics Ogre is a better GBA approximation of Final Fantasy Tactics than Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

I've at least been eyeballing Tactics Ogre: Let Us All Cling Together for PSP for quite a while. The PSP game is a remake of the SNES/PS1 Tactics Ogre, which was made by the same development team as FF Tactics. So the GBA game I'm playing isn't that same team, but it shares a common ancestor with FF Tactics. I've had this GBA game for years but never played it - I'm not even 100% sure when I bought it. Bottom line - this Tactics Ogre GBA game is good; that PSP one might be better. If I wasn't interested before, I definitely am now. -------------------- |

Honestly, Knight of Lodis is probably my fave GBA game. For a TO/OB game, it's a bit on the easy side, but it's ridiculously fun, and that reward-based emblem system is a joy to learn. Haven't played the TO remake, but the original was a very fulfilling (and often hard!) RPG, so I'd give it praise on that alone.

It got slammed, really? I think they're two of the best PS3 games period. Well, inFamous 2 has MUCH better characters, powers, and sidequests. New Marais is a little smaller and less vertical than Empire City, but it has more variety and I think it's a little more interesting. I'm not 100% a fan of the changes made to Cole (t-shirt, new voice actor, etc.) and the karma choices are basically 100% good vs. evil instead of "shades of gray" or what have you, but that hardly matters. I think it's better than the first inFamous and I'm seriously pumped for the new one that comes out next year.
Brad Shoemaker, a games journalist who enjoys inFamous about as much as I do, wrote a very positive review of inFamous 2: Boom. His criticisms are valid (moral choices are arbitrary, it lacks polish in some places), but I feel that the sequel is stronger than the original. Like I said, it's in the conversation to be my favorite PS3-exclusive game. -------------------- |

I told myself I wouldn't buy a 3DS until I beat a set of five games. I beat four of them and then caved on my internal pressure, but in my defense I DID beat a fifth game, just not the one on my list.
Now it is all Animal Crossing, all the time. So fun. I love all my townspeople so much. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? Awesome, thanks Lasz, it definitely has a place on my "to buy" list
As for me? Let's see.. I started playing Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS) again recently, but using only Marth, to see if it would work. After a few chapters of soaking up the exp meant for around 15 characters, he's a total tank and is one-shotting any enemy stupid enough to approach him (all of them). I have encountered a problem now though, his level is maxed so I have to bring in more characters slowly, to ensure the exp isn't wasted. I'm also thoroughly addicted to shmups.. Psyvariar 2, Under Defeat, Battle Garegga, EspGaluda, Mushihimesama, Dodonpachi, Gigawing 2, Ketsui.. arghhh, need to focus on one or i'll never beat any of them. laszlow introduced me to Guacamelee last night.
Pros: * metroidvania layout (and the map even conveniently marks places you can return to later to get through with new abilities) * BRILLIANT visual, musical, and textual style! lots of humor, too Cons: * I'm not sure I can pull off all these combos... -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I finished my inFamous 2 run and I think I'm about done with Rain-Slick 4 for now. I'm currently rolling through Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 (no DLC, thanks) and still sneaking in some Tactics Ogre on the side. I want to pick up another PS3 game this week, probably Castlevania: Lords of Shadow or Demon's Souls. Gotta try and finish both of those.

Just finished the Steam version of Eversion.
This includes all the achievements - including the secret locations achievement, the "screw with the game files" achievement, and all three endings. I had played and completed Eversion before, so I kinda knew where everything was. Except in the last level where it was all new. And arguably a better final level than the original final level. Furthermore, I went above and beyond this, and successfully restored the original Cocoron music to the title screen, first level, and goal fanfare. Too bad doing so didn't get me the "mess with the game files" achievement... Edit It's a little more complicated than that, actually. I'm finding that the game just won't stop hiccuping for a tiny moment at the loop for each of these replaced music tracks (this is moot for "goal" since that doesn't loop). It's not very noticeable but it is if you are paying attention to the game, and sounds a bit unprofessional. This happens no matter how well you cut the mp3 in Audacity. I'm trying to see if it's possible to make the game look for the original file instead of an MP3... Edit Actually, it's easier than I thought. Just edit the main.rb file. Change every instance of "title.mp3" to the filename of your new title theme (such as "title.s3m"). Same thing with other tracks. You can in fact customize the entire soundtrack by doing this, probably. And I think that means you can also customize particular instances of the title theme, such as the one used in the ending. Instead of trying a new PS3 game I just played more Magic and more Knight of Lodis.
Currently in KoL I'm at a map called Ostorea Castle, which has two consecutive encounters that can't share units. Basically, you ought to have 16 characters around level 20 to challenge that stage. I have 13 characters TOTAL, and zero of them are at level 20. Only nine of them are above level 12 (most of those nine are in the level 17-19 range). I have some grinding to do. Gonna get on that. -------------------- |

Just re-visited games.asobrain.com. It's the site with the best web implementation of Settlers of Catan that I've found. Well I've only found it and JSettlers, granted. (I hear the company behind Catan has their own web version but I haven't tried it.)
Turns out they decided to close off registration to new members, and culled accounts that have been inactive for 6 months or more. I had an account there that I used back around 2008-2009, IIRC. Oops. Well, there's still JSettlers. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! I've been playing Zelda: Spirit Tracks as part of my project to finish every main series Zelda game. Man, this game is... BORING! Ugh, just let me do all the dungeons in succession without having to worry about riding this bloody point 'n' click train around. I've never cared less about the wider world in any Zelda game before this, it's simply the worst. The sidequests amount to simply ferrying passengers around. Train simulator is not how I want to be spending my time, stuff the rewards, at least i'm near the end.
Don't get me wrong, there's been some cool moments and bosses, but it's not enough to save the game. This post has been edited by Blinge Odonata on 22nd July 2013 19:13 -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

Beat A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda (hard mode). Started playing Fairy Bloom Freesia. Also started playing Magical Drop V, Turba, Organ Trail, Go Home Dinosaurs!, and Dungeons of Dredmor. Played some Magicka and some more Blocks That Matter. A couple friends got me to restart Eden Eternal too.
All of these except Eden Eternal are available on Steam, though Turba is available direct from the developer DRM-free, and Organ Trail's Steam version is a "Director's Cut" and it is originally a browser game. Fairy Bloom Freesia is also available on Desura, GamersGate, and direct from the developer. Quick descriptions of everything: * A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda: sci-fi action platformer. Described by some to be a bit similar to Mega Man X (though it uses WASDspace for movement and mouse for aiming and shooting). Designed by a Thai indie studio named Extend, and features music from Hyperduck Soundworks (the people behind Iji's awesome soundtrack). Pretty decent game with very detailed 2.5D graphics. Can return to earlier levels after getting powerups, too. * Fairy Bloom Freesia: fantasy platformer fighting game by Japanese indie studio Edelweiss, localized by Nyu-Media. Battle enemies in various arenas with platforms. Upgrade skills, and practice them in training mode between rounds. Uses controller-style controls (arrow keys + left hand buttons; may support for (actual) controller but I'm not sure) with 2.5D graphics, again. Pretty good game, and decent music too. * Magical Drop V: the latest entry in the Magical Drop series of high-intensity combo-oriented action puzzle games of matching blocks. I'm still trying to get the hang of it; apparently the characters aren't just cosmetic and have specific patterns or attacks they use. The character, all named after Tarot cards, are fighting over a powerful MacGuffin in an excuse plot, and they have exaggerated personalities akin to those of TF2 characters. Decent game, though quite difficult. * Turba: another block-matching game. Plays something like Collapse, though has three different game modes and altogether different gameplay mechanics. Its most distinctive feature is the ability to use one's own music and have the game do stuff (e.g. generate blocks) with the beat, though beat detection is a bit wonky. Still, I've found a fun challenge to do with it. Kinda nice game/toy with reasonably small filesize too. * Organ Trail: an homage to Oregon Trail, with similarly simplistic graphical presentation, but featuring a group of friends riding a station wagon across the United States to escape a zombie apocalypse twenty minutes into the future. "Director's Cut" edition on Steam has additional features. Surprisingly fun and approachable. * Go Home Dinosaurs!: a tower defence game that features grid-based construction as well as a mobile basic attacking unit that doubles as a resource gatherer (rather than getting money from defeating things). Presented as gophers trying to keep dinos from stealing their BBQ. Extremely cheesy voice clips (among other things). Decent(ly challenging too) game, and you can also return to levels after getting powerups. * Dungeons of Dredmor: a turn-based grid-based roguelike RPG, with randomly-generated dungeons. I hear it's pretty hard. Tons of humor and references dot the landscape, and your player characters' corpses will soon, too. Just remember to tithe lutefisk cubes to the lutefisk god, and try not to get killed by diggles that insult you in the flavortext. Pretty good game. Now if you'll excuse me I'll get back to figuring out what shrooms do what...by trial and error, of course. * Magicka: Co-op/PVP multiplayer top-down 3D combat game that revolves around making various attacks out of combinations of magical elements. Unlike the more popular TF2, friendly fire is ON by default. The main campaign, which can be played single player, is very humor-filled. But single-player mode is a bit slow and the controls and spell combinations take some time to master. An okay game, probably more fun with friends. * Blocks That Matter: grid-based puzzle platformer that involves recovering materials and placing them in tetronimoes to solve puzzles (such as getting access to certain blocks in tight spaces). Decent music too. Pretty decent (but not easy) game. Again, you can revisit earlier levels after getting powerups, to get their bonuses. * Eden Eternal: 3D top-down MMORPG, mainly notable for its animesque art and the ability to change one's character class anytime. Has a decent soundtrack, too. Pretty good game, though a bit repetitive unless you're playing with one or more friends. I finished Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis over the weekend. Wow. Standout GBA game. Makes me want to play the rest of the Ogre series.
Playing Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii, mostly in multiplayer with a friend. First time I've played the game beyond the first zone, and it's AWESOME. Currently right at the start of the Cliff zone and loving it. Little bit of Torchlight II on the side. I've already beaten TL2 with two classes, but I want to beat it with the last two to explore the other skill trees and grab some Steam Achievements. Currently early in Act 2 with a summoner Outlander and early in Act 3 with a fire Embermage. Outlander is on Normal, Embermage is on Veteran - I started the Outlander run earlier this week and started the Embermage run several months ago. Also playing a little Ys: The Oath in Felghana. This is the first time I've played an Ys game at length, and so far it's way fun. I already own a few others from Steam sales, so I might jump right into Ys I or Ys Origin after I finish this. The last game I'm playing, which I've only played a few hours, is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. It's a third-person action game in the vein of a Devil May Cry or God of War, but... it feels confined. The controls are decent and the game looks fine, but the targeting is weird, almost every scene is either an open clearing or a "is that ANOTHER invisible wall?" corridor. The mission setup of the stages worked fine 20+ years ago, but it doesn't seem up to new millennium standards when the missions are this short and direct. I don't *hate* this game exactly, but I'm not terribly impressed and it doesn't feel like Castlevania. This post has been edited by laszlow on 24th July 2013 17:32 -------------------- |
