Ah sweety, that sounds so funny spoken out loud by someone not familiar with Starcraft.

As for me? I keep the candles lit and serve the brave demonslayers who are trapped here

Um.. I mean 2D shoot'em ups. I'm pretty damn addicted currently; anything by the developer, Cave but namely Progear, DoDonPachi and Esp.Galuda. Also Ikaruga on Dreamcast, and turning my TV on its side for a vertical view, the balance is precarious however.. it's already fallen over once.

Played some TF2 today but I suspect there was a hacker/cheater. There's this one player who seemed to have more health than normal.

I've been hearing a lot about hackers on TF2 lately.

Sorry to double-post, but just an announcement:

I'll be streaming Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance tonight at 11 PM EDT (3 AM GMT). Here's my channel: http://www.livestream.com/gmhschannel . This will be a sequence-breaking demonstration run (not a normal playthrough and not a speedrun).

Wow you're right it sounds ridiculous. smile.gif The question you should be asking yourself is of course: why am I not familiar with Starcraft?

Couldn't stay for long, but that was fun to see part of it. Marioing that boss looked hella-fun.

I am also playing through Heart of the Swarm at this point, not sure yet how I feel about it. I'm bad at microing when a hero character is involved, so some of these missions feel weird. The storyline is interesting, at least, at this point.

^^ Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thankfully you caught that part as opposed to the part where I forgot how to pull off a certain trick that I needed to get through stuff. (Thankfully it didn't take long to figure that out.)

I got through about half the game, and I'm probably going to do the second half next weekend. Maybe starting a little earlier, like 10 PM. Another four hours should be enough to finish it all. I'll be fighting a lot more bosses this second session (as I only fought five of nineteen or so bosses this first go).

I'm currently playing Fire Emblem: Awakening and really enjoying it. I love this game. I have no complaints about it. I'm on chapter 19 but I'm working on some paralogue chapters to recruit some of my character's children from the future.

I'm also working on Lego City Undercover which I mentioned in it's own thread and really enjoying it.

I'm also about 6 hours into to Dragon Age Origins but I haven't played it in a while.

I finished playing To the Moon a few days ago and wow, was I impressed. While I maintain that the story doesn't exactly tie up perfectly, its achievement - the inspiration of such emotion with such limited time and features - is something really incredible. Or, perhaps its success is not *in spite* of these restrictions but *because* of them. I mentioned this on the first CoNcast, but I stand by it: the more I see of games like this, the more I believe they constitute a refreshing and much needed breeze into the increasingly overburdened and incestual world of console RPGs.

Ahem. All that is to say that I enjoyed the storytelling thoroughly, particularly the refreshing take on the structure of self-investigation concurrent with investigation.

'Zat mean you haven't taken on Pimping Big yet biggrin.gif ? (ROFL, ah, I do laugh at the stupidest stuff sometimes.)

As for me, I'm finally giving Skyrim a break. Not a bad game at all, but I've since developed a hankerin' for some Mass Effect 3. After two previous runs as some measure of Paragon, I do believe it's time for a renegade run of some sort.

Nope, I haven't beaten Pimping Big Peeping Big yet:
* Giant Bat: skipped, will defeat last because the boss fight is boring...though it does have a dramatic entrance. Which is completely wasted if that's your first boss and you haven't seen other bosses not do that entrance.
* Living Armor: beaten (mandatory for getting Lizard Tail Whole Lizard)
* Skull Knight: beaten (mandatory for getting Sylph Feather (double jump))
* Minotaur (a.k.a. Minotaur Lv1): beaten because I walked by it and realized I could go kick its ass with some cherry-tapping (that's what Neal watched)
* Devil: beaten (either Devil or Giant Merman is mandatory to get to the Clock Tower A)
* Max Slimer: beaten (mandatory to get through Clock Tower A)

All other bosses have been untouched so far.

I'm grinding along in the final dungeon of Persona 4 (True Ending, Second Cycle). I have Reaper weapons (best weapons in the game for the most part) for every character, and everyone has top-tier armor (Uzume Robe, Sonidori Wear, or Godly Robe). All S.Links are maxed. For Personae, most of the time I'm equipping Shiva, Loki, Kohryu, and Yoshitsune on the Protagonist. I managed to get some really good skill setups on all four. I have every Persona in the compendium except for Izanagi-no-Okami and Lucifer. Once I fuse those two I'll beat the secret boss, then I'll beat the final boss, and then I'll finally be done with Persona 4.

Finished Persona 4 a week ago and Psychonauts over the weekend. I now count Persona 4 among my all-time favorite games. Stellar RPG. Psychonauts had some really strong points (stage and boss designs, dialog, humor) balanced out by weak points (horrible camera, messy and floaty platforming, occasionally jagged visuals). Psychonauts was pretty good, but I'm also glad I'm done with it. **** THE MEAT CIRCUS.

Now I have to decide what game to play next. I'm leaning towards Skyrim or Vesperia. I'll settle down with one of those as soon as I finish my taxes....

Recently beat Potatoman Seeks the Troof.

Curious little game. Rather short. But a bit intriguing.

Also, the beginning changes when you beat it. If you beat it again, the beginning changes some more. I wonder if there's a limit to this...

Accidentally started playing Fortune Summoners.

It's quite a fun game. Despite its being quite difficult. Not the perfect experience but still good.

That said, even on the "easy" difficulty setting, it still kicks my ass. Especially this later section where you have to solo with a new character, training her up from level 3. She doesn't attack fast, and you have to deal with those cocorans (or whatever they're called) that are like freakin' ninjas.

Right now I'm playing Tales of Vesperia on the XBox 360 and Guacamelee! on the PS3. Both games are way fun. Vesperia is slowly turning into my 2nd- or 3rd- favorite Tales Of game, and Guacamelee! is probably the best Metrovania since Shadow Complex. From me that is high praise.

Now, for fun, my impressions of the Persona series:

Revelations / Shin Megami Tensei / Megami Ibunroku Persona - This is a bad game. It has some neat story bits if you read a synopsis instead of actually playing it, but P1's gameplay is nothing but a horrible slog and the characters are never very interesting. Worse than some of the old Megami Tensei games on the NES and SNES, and that's saying something.

Persona 2: Innocent Sin - This is a very neat game, but has some frustrating parts. The cast is fairly appealing and the plot points are occasionally downright awesome, but it's still mired in old Persona gameplay traditions, and certain series mainstays like grinding for Arcana cards and demon negotiations are ****ing awful. I haven't finished it yet, but the dungeons P2IS are rough to say the least and allegedly get even more brutal. I might revisit this game later, but I'm not in a mood to play it now.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment - Improves on Innocent Sin in a number of ways, especially making card-grinding and Persona-fusing a little bit more user-friendly. The plot is REALLY difficult to get much enjoyment out of if you haven't played P2IS, but playing the two games back to back seems like a really fulfilling story arc. I've only played the beginning of P2EP, but it seems cool in general. I will probably want to play this very soon after finishing P2IS... if I ever get around to doing that.

Persona 3 - After six or seven years of no Persona at all, Atlus gave the series another go with an entirely new creative team (except for music composer Shoji Meguro) and the result is fantastic. Persona 3 marries its two disparate halves (a "dialogue grind" and a "dungeon grind") with an improved Persona fusing system and created a new LEGION of Persona fans, including myself. Cast of characters is solid, and the story is mostly about the main character's relationships and school days interspersed with metaphors about death and the journey of the soul. Really fun game.

Persona 4 - How do you improve the Persona 3 formula? More details, more drama, and more rewards. Persona 4 gives your character smaller environments than Persona 3's large island and huge evil tower, but they're more varied and give you more things to do. All of your party members are included as S.Links and they learn new skills as you include them in the social grind. You have time limits to rescue victims imprisoned in the game's hub of dungeons, adding weight and urgency to the dates on the daily calendar. Add in a superbly-written murder mystery plot, and you have probably my favorite game of the past 7 or 8 years.

One of my flatmates was telling me of being home (Germany) where he was introducing his friends to Slender and recounting all the great stories that usually involve him hearing a scream from the other room and a laptop lid being closed shut. However his girlfriend has always been like "yeah it's not that scary" but always seems to leave the room when he's going to show it to someone new smile.gif.

She arrived for a visit yesterday and I said to them both "hey I've got a new game for us to play!". I bought Slender: The Arrival with her in mind and we'll now see who's scared of who and who's going to get static'd to death. Can't wait.

On a related note I was really happy to play through Amnesia on my own in the dark because I was hooked on the story and the horror was an important part of it; Slender, on the other hand, is just too much. I can't play it alone.

Ah Lasz, I appreciate the Persona retrospective, man. I had wondered about the earlier titles.

And Sweety... surely Amnesia is scarier than Slender? The latter is barely more than a tech demo, a cheap thrill D=

I find Slender scarier. I'm not even usually that freaked out by paranormal stuff. There's very few films that threw me other than the Japanese Ring 1 when I was 11 or however old. But Slender is just too... dreadful. Like I said I played through all of Amnesia with headphones in the dark on my own in a big empty house, like the game advises, and I was sweating and my hands were shaking and I knew I was going white, but still I really wanted to continue because it wasn't TOO scary that I'd just opt out. Slender on the other hand doesn't need people to buy it and get their money's worth, it's happy for you to be a coward and never play it again.

I don't think it's a cheap thrill because a lot of work must've gone into making it. The whole package is awesome. It's more like an experience than I game though because I don't feel any desire to play it again myself but I want everyone to know about it. Anyway I love Amnesia to bits, it's one of my top games of all time. It has story, atmosphere, good voice acting, really good gameplay. It's very clever. Everything I like in a game. Amnesia is the better game by far, but Slender is scarier. When I play Amnesia Justine (still haven't finished it yet) I really enjoy the game, I get scared, but I want to keep going. Slender is just too unpleasant to ever want to play again.

Ah yes I remember the Frictional games disclaimer, the one that said "Oh you live in an apartment? screw you" tongue.gif

Well I see where you're coming from now, I have no desire to try Slender again either after the three or so attempts I made, I get the feeling the game's system is easy to defeat once you know how it works, but there's little pleasure in that. I too will see it as something that briefly filled my pants, and carry on

Loved Bioshock. Love Bioshock Infinite even more. Went into it with an open mind, no trailers or screenshots, no reviews. It hooked me in in the first minute or so, then I could barely put it down. What's really funny is there's so little I can say about it because so much happens I think even mentioning any specific part of it would be a spoiler!

Let's see! Finished FF7, finished Heart of the Swarm. Next up on my list is Psychonauts, which I've been meaning to play for quite awhile. After that, I hope to finish Wild ARMS 5 and Torchlight 2...and then onward! Possibly Bioshock Infinite.

I've beaten Fortune Summoners. It's a great game with quite a lot of polish, especially with how well-tuned the AI is for both your allies and your enemies. Even if you're bad with combo combat controls (as I am), though, the game has several playstyles for you to choose from: I chose to play as Sana and stood back and healed and buffed my allies as they opened cans of whoop-ass.

The music's also beautiful. And the story is very engaging and told with a masterful script with lots of wit, from the people who localized Recettear.

I also (nearly) beat Adventure Apes and the Mayan Mystery. This game is very mediocre and a bit buggy. The best parts of it are the aesthetics (including the detail) and the music, which are decent. But otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.

I also beat Oozi: Earth Adventure. This is an okay-to-decent platformer. The music is kinda meh, the gameplay is decent but a bit tedious, but at least more tolerable. The graphics are nice, too. Overall, better than AA&tMM.

Then I beat Yunica mode (normal difficulty) in Ys Origin. Holy shit this was awesome. I'm not sure how this compares to Ys: the Oath in Felghana, but it's definitely very close. The two games share the same engine, have same sort of awesome soundtrack (Origin has slightly better boss themes while Oath has slightly better area music).

I also messed with Magnetis last night. Seems pretty cool, though in just two playthroughs I haven't yet gotten the hang of what to do when I hit panic mode as the lines fill up the screen. Definitely seems fun, though. Not sure how it compares to Slydris; Slydris seems to be a tiny bit more intuitive, in my opinion.
