Finished Borderlands 2 a few weeks ago and I took a pause from SD Gundam momentarily (it's impossible to play during school weeks, I focus on it too much...). Currently playing Pokémon Black 2 and Dota 2 whenever I get the opportunity.

Oh sweet Moses Persona 4. I started that game less than two weeks ago, and I'm already in late October with 40-45 hours in. I might have a problem....

I'm still working on Suikoden II after taking a bit of a hiatus. I also started a game of Mother 3 since I think it's pretty safe to say we won't get a US release which removes any guilt about finding "other means" to play it. It's ok so far, the tone seems a bit depressing in comparison to Earthbound. Mechanics are basically the game though. I am intrigued to see what will happen so I will definitely play it to completion.

Silent Hill 3. I can see myself not being a great fan if I hadn't been through #1 first, but fortunately I have. I'm not at the end yet but It seems to be wrapping up that story arc very well, and Heather is perhaps my favourite character in the series thus far.
Also, although SH2 still reigns supreme, #3 is so unforgiving in comparison! both running and gunning is much harder with normal enemies! Well, I finished Persona 4. It made me so hungry for more Persona that I started a New Game+ of Persona 3 FES almost immediately after. After doing that for a day or two, I calmed down and decided to play some other games.
I put an hour or two into the Steam version of 10,000,000. It's a neat little match-3 game similar to Bejeweled, but has some dungeon-grinder trappings and RPG elements for a nice twist. Everything's better with RPG elements (seriously). I mean, the game's just a $5 time-waster that I got for $4, but it's worth every penny. About done with my playthrough of Pokemon White 2. Beaten the Champion, but I'm exploring the post-game. And damn, there is a lot of post-game. Pokemon World Tournament is pretty sweet, letting you fight against souped-up versions of every Gym Leader and Champion in Pokemon history (these fights are way harder than the Elite 4). Lots of side areas featuring Pokemon from past generations to catch. Lots of special "strong trainers" and series cameos that you can challenge periodically. I wasn't impressed with most of the Pokemon of the new generation, with a few exceptions - Axew, Mienfoo, Solosis, and Drilbur's evolutions are 1) awesome-looking; 2) powerful sweepers that fit into several teams; and 3) my favorite Pokemon of this gen. The starters are a mixed bag, but overall okay - I don't like them as much as the Gen IV starters. New water-types and ghosts are meh, but there seem to be a ton of interesting new bug-types with potential (notably Volcarona). There's lots of power in the new generation, with a few Pokes (looking at you, Hydreigon and Ferrothorn) that are just terrifyingly strong. If I were a competitive battler, I'd hate them. So that's enough TL;DR Pokemon chat. I should save that for my blog.... Up on deck are Tales of Vesperia, Psychonauts, and Ni no Kuni in some order. Well, after racking up almost 90 hours on Ys: Origin, a game that normally takes like 10-15 hours to finish, I finally got around to playing Skyrim. Not only was I pleasantly surprised by it, but now I don't know if I'll play anything else for the next couple of months.

I decided to buy Tactics:WOTL on Vita yesterday, so I've been fiddling with that. Started the game over today when I learned about the Zodiac combos...almost all of my party combos were "bad" ones, and I am hoping against hope that that was why I kept losing battle after battle...

Started The Walking Dead last night and got through the first episode. REALLY enjoyed it. I actually didn't realize it was a point-and-click adventure game, but it lent itself really well to the storytelling that is the main purpose of the game. Can't wait to play the remaining episodes.

I recently finished Summon Night: Swordcraft Story.
First game. I picked Pratty. I ended up with Sugar as my familiar. And I got the Sanary ending! Yay! Because Sanary is awesomecute and because I do NOT ship anyone with Sugar; I don't really like Sugar much. Yeah, the whole game has ship-teasing all over it. The game's narrative and script are very strong. The gameplay, however, is a bit repetitive, diving down into the same-looking labyrinth environments for fifty floors to complete the main quest. Was also disappointed that Possible spoilers: highlight to view I didn't get to fight Varil at the end. Still, though, the gameplay -- which takes the form of random encounters that play out like Tales Of battles -- is quite a bit of fun. You get to choose from five main weapon types, and you can carry around three weapons with you everywhere you go (except the tournament). Drilling the shit out of everything -- especially with the two electric drills you can get -- is really, really fun. However, the best part of this was that I crafted the Hot Iron Ladle only shortly before fighting the second-to-last tournament opponent. I proceeded to try fighting said opponent with just the Hot Iron Ladle. For those who don't know, the Hot Iron Ladle is the elemental variant of the Ladle. It still has piddling attack power, but it has 200 durability -- which pretty much makes it one of the best weapons for destroying your opponents' weapons (when they have one), which is the only way to gain the crafting recipes for them (usually). I attempted to fight said opponent with the Hot Iron Ladle. Swung a few times. All misses...this is a pretty darn tough opponent. I decided to just block all of said opponent's attacks. My Hot Iron Ladle had the durability for it. And it was perfectly in character for Pratty too! Best of all...you know what said opponent does after the match? Possible spoilers: highlight to view Sanary stole my Hot Iron Ladle. Really. Anyone else going to try and finish Four in February? I'm targeting Heavy Rain, Metroid Prime, Psychonauts, and The Legend of Zelda; Majora's Mask. I own all four, but have never even put any of the discs into the drive (or cartridges, as it were). Gonna try to start and finish all four in four weeks. hashtag 4iF.

Story Mode is around 5x more reading than fighting, which is totally wackadoodle, but it's a little fun seeing these characters interact. Story Mode has you play through half a character's story to unlock other characters, then you can play the second half when you play through one of the boss characters' story; it's weird. I already really like the characters, because, well, I already really like them from playing Persona 3 and Persona 4. In addition to that ridiculous Story Mode, you get a normal Arcade, a good variety of training modes, and a Score Attack mode that is one of the most challenging things I've ever tried in a fighting game. I made it through one stage of Score Attack (there are 12 or 13) and it was a major victory.
The combat itself is so smooth that it's a joy to behold, and the combat engine and most of the character gimmicks are waaaay less convoluted than Guilty Gear or BlazBlue (also by Arc System Works). I've played a lot of SF3 Third Strike and Super SF4 AE over the past several years, and this game is smoother than 3TS and maybe deeper than SF4. Each character has a universal anti-air ("R-Action"), instant overhead, beginner combos, special cancels, special dashes, and instant kill supers (less broken than it sounds). Several moves inflict RPG-inspired status effects, with seven in all. Around 95% of non-standardized moves are quarter-circle motions, with that last 5% being a few simple command normals and one character that has two simple charge commands. Bottom line - pulling off basic moves is WAY easier than in a Street Fighter or SNK fighter. But the high-level stuff is still difficult to pull off, as it should be. LOTS of meter management as well, being used for three different types of supers in addition to EX moves and multiple types of cancels. Character balance is... okay. Definitely more balanced that 3TS or SF4 (Third Strike is an unbalanced cluster****, SF4 has gotten less balanced with each roster update since there are so many characters), but there are definitely matchup problems. Kanji gets REAMED by good zoning, which is too bad because around half the cast has great zoning. (I'm probably just bitter because Kanji is my favorite P4 character and I wish he was a little better). The best character is probably Mitsuru or Aigis, and the worst character is probably the boss character Shadow Labrys. So yeah, this is a sort of convoluted fighting game, but it's gorgeous and plays great. Difficulty ceiling is high, but the difficulty curve is quite forgiving and there is a lot of depth here. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes fighting games and the Persona 3/4 cast. -------------------- |

For fighting games you just gotta put in the work. Play the game's Challenge or Training mode to get a few good combos and setups down, and then play it more. You won't get good at them unless you play a lot. AFGs like BlazBlue and P4A have some really dedicated fans, though, so the online scene can be pretty harsh. My win rate online for P4A is below 50%.

Metal Gear Solid - Enjoying it a lot so far. Just kicked Ocelot's ass for the first time.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Good, but nowhere near the original. My biggest complaint so far is the lack of subtlety. "One globe, one source for information", yeah, nothing ominous about that. Also lol big brother cameras. This post has been edited by Metal King Slime on 27th February 2013 10:35 |

Been playing Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast. Finished my first ever playthrough in February, then ran into a hitch when the first disc started giving DREs (ever gone through Daccat's Island, running to the world map to save? Ain't fun). Things seem to have cleared up though, so now maybe this project'll finish by my birfday and I can move onto Blue Stinger or Soul Reaver.
