Should I max out my pet in Monster Tale and unlock all the forms?
I still don't know how to unlock Ellie's alternate costume though. Also, I wanted to add that the main theme of Monster Tale has grown on me. it turns out to be quite a pretty and touching theme tune. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I just started messing around in Tales of Destiny on my newly-downloaded PSX emulator. I figured it was time I made a foray into the 'Tales of' series. I'll probably only do a bit more on it in the next couple weeks, what with finals in the near future, but I'll probably binge on it after that

The official English-language version of Tales of Destiny is one of the worse games in the series. ToD actually has a good plot. Its strongest points might be its plot and characters, even though the English translation is awful. I just feel its action is supremely clunky compared to... pretty much every game in the series. And its characters, while neat, are poorly-balanced. By the end game the only characters worth using are the four that can use Swordians. I got pretty far into it, but never finished because I felt let down after playing Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Eternia, and the games on 6th-generation consoles.

Well, I definitely place more weight on the plot, so maybe continuing with ToD isn't such a bad idea. The issues you bring up seem to be things that I overlook a bit, so I suspect I should be fine. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! A few weeks ago I finished Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky in about 30 hours. Fantastic RPG. Every other LoH game is garbage, but thankfully this one is unrelated to the others regarding story or characters. Great cast and dialog, solid oldschool battle system, reminded of strongly Lunar. If you have a PSP, go play it. Or wait until it gets a little cheaper; it just came out and waiting for a drop is perfectly reasonable.
Visited ElPanachino last weekend and played a lot of Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Makes me want to get better at both of them. I need to be able to safely solo a G-rank Rajang, which is no mean feat. Currently playing Jeanne D'Arc on the PSP (it's good) and the original Half-Life on the PC (it's awesome). Those games will be put on hold, however, when I visit my sister studying in the UK this week. Not much gaming to do; I'll be taking in the sights in a new country. I've been playing Trouble Witches Neo! (XBLA) and putting a little time on the Gnashers of War 3 Beta....I mean Gears of War 3 Beta. Playing some Final Fantasy VIII on Playstation but trying to complete that Queen of Cards side quest is becoming rather aggravating.

I'm currently playing Suikoden Teirkreis as my signature would suggest and I'm really enjoying it. At first I was a little put off by the horrible voice acting but I've gotten used to it. The story is interesting enough with the usual betrayals, plot twists, and someone or some group of someone's being brainwashed. I think my only complaint is that they did not stick with the magic and special abilities in the game being rune based. They created something new. So far I don't see in the story why they didn't do that because I see it as being totally possible but maybe there's a part of the plot later that just wouldn't work, don't know. Not any relation to the main series unfortunately, but it's still enjoyable and has the same quirkiness that I've loved about the series. It's a pretty easy game though. I don't think I've had my party of characters die even once yet and I'm 25 hours into the game. But I am enjoying it. It's just what I needed to be pulled back into playing games again.

Right now I'm giving Disgaea a try. While games like this tend to appeal to me, I get the feeling this one's gonna require a fair amount of level grinding, made more annoying by how exp. gaining seems to be tied only to kills and only for the character doing the killing (as opposed to successful actions a la FFT). At least things like the item world will give the grinding a more meaningful purpose.

That said, a general tip that can improve leveling rates is to remember that everyone who's part of a tower attack gains experience for it. When starting to level a new character, or a newly reincarnated character, it's often not a bad idea to go somewhere better suited to your higher level characters, then lift the noob and use them in tower attacks. Your enemies won't be able to target them, and they'll quickly gain levels as they gain experience for the killing blows struck by other people in the tower. |

I've been playing Duodecim and practically nothing else. I'm less than psyched to play the thirteenth cycle, having already played each story twice already in Dissidia (once to clear it, again to get every Summonstone), so I've mostly been
I also started playing a translated NES version of Final Fantasy III. Aside from the obvious (improved graphics and sound, portability, etc), I find that the DS version is superior in practically every way (dash function, map in top screen, ability to see how equipment affects stats prior to equipping, defense doesn't drop to zero when fleeing a battle, something resembling a story, etc) except one: the Capacity mechanic. For those who haven't played FFIII on the NES, every time you win a battle, in addition to gil and experience, you also get capacity points. In order to switch jobs for one of your characters, a certain amount of capacity points are used up, depending on what job the character is, what job the character is switching to, and the skill level of the new job. Even though it isn't as good as in FFV (no cost or penalty for switching jobs), it's a hell of a lot better than in the DS version: after you switch jobs, your stats are decreased for a certain number of battles, which, in my opinion, discouraged switching jobs or experimenting with various setups (a large part of the appeal of the job system). I'm back to replaying Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. It's really one of my favorite N64 games ever with such a fantastic story, and a very long and involved game with fantastic replay value. I really wish someone would come in and fully develop the sequels and prequels, since this game has a monstrously fleshed out back-story, with the only thing holding it back being the will of whoever owns the franchise now...

Trying to get a hang of playing MegaMan Legends.
That four-boss marathon was annoying (mets/spider mech/save city hall/Bon Bonne). Bon Bonne was particularly annoying since it took me a while to figure out that I could just run beneath him. That and I don't know how to strafe in this game. And the lock-on doesn't stay on the same target; it retargets to the closest target. Also, this is...quite an experience, for being titled "Mega Man". I must say, absolutely nothing like any other MM games I've played before. I guess this was people's reaction to it fifteen years ago when it was first released, too. No tower attacks in Disgaea 1, which is what I'm playing. No matter, as said before, things like Item World (subduing specialists, leveling up items) make the grinding sort of worthwhile. And leveling new/reincarnated characters is simply a matter of letting them have the killing blow as many times as possible, or at least involving them in team attacks, though I don't know if I'm gonna bother with reincarnation in my first run. Beyond lengthy periods of Disgaea, I'm also fitting in some quality time with Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, a timeless favorite of mine ![]() This post has been edited by Galsic on 10th June 2011 03:31 -------------------- |

I finally got Feral Chaos in Duodecim, having played it at least once a day, every day, since purchasing it over a month ago. It's amazing - Dissidia is the only fighting game I not only openly enjoy, but flat-out love. (Even though I technically enjoy Super Smash Bros. as well, that's more of a casual game for me, and I only play it with friends.) I only wish I had more than one close friend who played it - I wanna get some battlin' goin' on.
But I think it's time for me to finally put it down and start focusing on my numerous unfinished games:
And maybe some others I can't remember at the moment. I was able to further hack my PSP so it can now emulate NES games in addition to GBA games (allowing me to FINALLY beat Mega Man 2), so I've also been playing Mega Man 3, The Legend of Zelda, and a translated NES version of Final Fantasy III. (Fun fact: Kid Icarus is FREAKING DIFFICULT.) After beating Final Fantasy VI Advance with just Celes, Edgar, & Setzer, I may give it another playthough just for shiggles. I feel inspired to do some Job System experimentation in Final Fantasy V Advance as well. As soon as my friend gives me back my copy of Final Fantasy I (PSP) that I'm lending him, I think I'll try a Solo Warrior run, naming the aforementioned Warrior Possible spoilers: highlight to view Cid, since Dissidia is implied to be a prequel of FFI, and Warrior of Light is a manikin of Cid of the Lufaine. I feel inspired to do so after getting all the reports and what not in Duodecim. As soon as I can find copies of Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley, or the PSP version of Final Fantasy II, Imma purchase them. None of the GameStops around me have them. I'll also buy Portal 2 off of Steam as soon as I can afford it/my schedule clears up. Oh, and I purchased Team Fortress 2! It's awesome - similar to Dissidia and fighting games, TF2 is the only FPS I really enjoy (except for Goldeneye, of course). Also, if anyone wants to add me as a friend on Steam, my Steam name is the same as my name here - Insegredious. -------------------- |

Got through Amnesia in two nights. The game told me to wear headphones and play in the dark, so aside from painful eyes I managed to enter a state of constant tension and fear. Really happy with that game, it was just the right length, scary throughout but without being annoyingly jumpy, and gave me plenty to think about as well. I completed the game with the regular ending and thought it was crap, so I reloaded and did something different and, wow, it felt like the nice ending I get at the end of a difficult but gentle novel. Almost happy and very relieving. Apparently this is the 'special' ending. This is a game I'm going to remember for a long time.
After that I started on the DLC, where the character is a woman this time and I have to take orders from a woman on a gramophone. It's a bit like Saw, each level there's somebody that can either be saved with a lot of thinking and exploring, or killed to get through the game the easy way. It's a lot of fun and I'll enjoy sitting down and playing it through all the way (there are no saves available so I don't really have an alternative anyway). I just recently finished inFamous 2 - awesome game. The ending is weird and the finale was anti-climactic, but it's one of the best sandbox games I've ever played. Will do a second playthrough eventually.
Currently playing BioShock on my PS3 and Half-Life on my PC. Two games I spent too damn long avoiding. EDIT: This is worth mention: inFamous 2 has the greatest cutscene of all time. THE GREATEST.
