Finished Dragon Age 1, wife's getting close to finishing it which means I'll have to shell out 60 bucks for number 2 pretty soon. As I type this I'm sitting in world 2-2 in Braid waiting for the cloud to get THAT much closer to I can get my Star...world 4 has been driving me crazy but the game's too pretty to stop playing.

I'm actually replaying fallout 3 but i'm doing it ala evil style.

My character is an evil psychopathic tanned asian guy who is a cannibal. He destroyed megaton enslaves people and has a female sex slave with a collar on.

Oh did i tell you that the difficulty is really getting hard now? i encountered this open plaza filled with super mutants and a super mutant on top of the plaza building spamming rocket shots at me.I died a bunch of times and my slave:cloe has died even more.

All i can say is:Remember to bring a rocket launcher with me when you do this part, you will thank me because super mutants are tough. If you forgot to bring a rocket launcher,at least bring a combat shotgun plenty of grenades and a assault rifle.

I may play star fox after i'm done.I saw a lets play recently of star fox on the snes and it rekindled some fond memories i had of playing the game that i wish to experience once more.

Never played the first Dissidia, but I'm went ahead and got Duodecim since it has more characters. I'm actually enjoying it more than I expected, but sometimes the computer is ridiculously cheap.

Even though I'm still working on my Solo Red Mage run of FFI (PSP), I'm doing another run just for the heck of it with four Monks. I was going to try a run with four White Mages before I realized that it wouldn't be difficult, really - just RIDICULOUSLY tedious; healing would never be an issue, and I could imagine that it would become a cakewalk as soon as you get Holy.

But yeah, four Monks. I'm finding that the benefits are greater than I thought they would be: it's incredibly easy to rack up Gil, since you don't have to buy weapons or spells, and you could very easily sell the numerous pieces of equipment you find in dungeons that Monks can't use.
And since there's no real strategy involved, I can multitask, since battles are as easy as holding down the confirm button.
The obvious downside, of course, is no magic whatsoever. No area spells (level 2 & 3 elemental spells, etc), no healing spells (Cure, Heal, Life, etc), no support spells (Protect, Invis, etc), no effect spells (Sleep, Confuse, etc), nothing outside of items and equipment that cast magic.

Also, a cookie to anyone to can figure out the pattern behind my Monks' names:

I played the BEJEEZUS out of Dragon Age, beat the game with a Mage and have Rogue and Warrior playthroughs at about level 15-17. Will definitely revisit this one later, but not soon. Burned out on it hard.

Playing Big Bang Mini on the DS and Jeanne D'Arc on the PSP. BBM is awesome - I don't think I've ever enjoyed a scrolling shooter / shmup / bullet hell game this much. On zone 8 out of 9, unless there's a hidden 10th one that the stage list is hiding from me.

Also messing with Jeanne D'Arc on the PSP. Trying not to think about historical accuracy here (England invading France with demons from hell, Jeanne D'Arc as a Sail Moon-esque magical girl), but the game's very good so far. Just recruited a second magic bracelet user.

Picked up Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes off of XBLA. It's a fun puzzle/RPG game with a LotR aesthetic. I also got back into Burnout: Paradise, trying to get up to an A class license and get all the cars. Just occupying myself until the deluge of good games next week.

I just discovered Monster Tale.

Apparently it was made by the people behind Henry Hadsworth. Which means nothing to me since I don't know Henry Hadsworth.

But this is a pretty nice metroidvania game with a pretty involved mon-raising piece. They actually balanced it decently well. It does get a bit tedious by the end, when you're trying to figure out what treats would be best for which form of your mon, and it also does get a bit difficult, but nothing you can't grind your way out of if you so choose. The music is also decent, though not as good as, say, virt's work on Scurge: Hive.

This is a pretty nice game. Definitely recommended. Came out only like three weeks ago. For DS.

I finally beat the game in my Solo Red Mage run of FFI! Chaos took me a few tries, but he was pretty easy after I discovered that you can cast Blink more than once to stack the effects (something which didn't really carry over to the later games in the series, which is why it never occurred to me sooner). Using that tactic, I was finally able to beat Death Gaze and get the Lightbringer (HHHOOOLLLYYY) and Ultima Weapon. I'm going to try and beat Shinryu and/or Omega before attempting the Labyrinth of Time; I've beaten Chronodia's hardest form before with my standard Knight/Ninja/White Wizard/Black Wizard party in the mid-50s, so let's see if I can do it with a Level 99 Red Wizard, shall we?

But that's on hold for two reasons: 1) my friend is borrowing my copy, and 2) I was finally able to get my hands on a copy of FFVII!!

I just started, and I'm at the train graveyard. I didn't like it that much at first, but it's growing on me very quickly. Being used to the 2D games, my initial reaction was "this is kind of VIII-esque...I don't like VIII that much." But I know I have a ways to go, so I'm sure that feeling will purge itself.
One thing I REALLY like about the battle system is also something I really liked about VI's - the pacing. In VI & VII, the ATB gauges fill during battle animations (unlike V, VIII, & CT, for instance, which freeze the bars during animations - cause, you know, when we're fighting Ultimecia, we TOTALLY want to drop what we're doing just to focus all our attention on the Quezacotl summon sequence we've seen eleventy billion times).

Beat Monster Tale.

The metroidvania portion is solid, though as a veteran metroidvania player, it's somewhat simple and not extraordinarily cool--though it's still solid.

The big feature of course is the pet-raising part, which is very nice and complex. Though a bit tedious when I keep on checking the stats of different forms to see which one ought to get which item to boost which stats. But that's late in the game.

The game's soundtrack is...decent, though not too much my style. It's either got a lot of nice contrapuntal melodies set atop somewhat iffy-at-times harmonies, or a very motif-based electtronica/techno-like structure with tunes and rhythms building on top of each other. The music, written mostly by Ian Stocker (I think), isn't as totally awesome as virt's work for Scurge: Hive or something, but is still pretty good.

But I should mention some highlights:
* the Scratch Pit theme (it's a dance club for monsters, with a pretty awesome tune)
* the Treehouse Grotto theme (sounds almost like it could be in a Castlevania game!)
* Zoe's battle theme (very nice action theme that includes both Zoe's motif and the boss motif)

Finished Portal 2 campaign in 8 hours earlier today. One sitting interrupted by a short dinner. It's an incredible game, I think it might warrant its own topic after I gather my thoughts about the experience. And that ending... holy shit, that ending.

I'm very close to buying it but I just can't get past that £30 price tag. Wasn't Portal about £10 or less when it came out? Can I ask those who've played it, is Portal 2 three times better than Portal?

Comparing Portal to Portal 2 is like comparing apples to some fruit that is three times better than apples. In reality, it's hard to really put a number to it (especially since I don't think Portal was that cheap when it came out) but the game is very, very good. The big complainers are bitching that it's too short and that there is DLC on day one, but the DLC is all cosmetic - not additional levels or anything - and the game is significantly (possibly 3x) longer than the original Portal. It's been worth it for me, but with single-player and co-op likely totalling 10-20 hours, it's up to you whether or not that's worth the investment.

When it came out, Portal was one-fifth of the $60 Orange Box bundle and cost $20 on its own. Nowadays you can find Portal for $10, but that certainly hasn't always been the case.

From everything I've seen and heard, calling Portal 2 3x better than Portal is certainly unfair, but it just might have 3x the content thanks to its excellent co-op mode and longer playtime.

Well it's £7 here now, I'm pretty sure it was only around £10-15 on Steam in its first solo release, which would be $20. I can't really say much more except Steam is usually quite good at getting a fair exchange rate, e.g. Portal 2 is $50 which is around £30.

Thanks for the tips. I'll think about it more and see what the general feeling is after a bit of time has passed. I'm not always such a miser, honest!

Yeah, I don't know if 3x better is how I'd put it, but it definitely feels like 3x as much content, if not more. And that's not including the co-op, which I haven't touched yet. I'd really recommended you get it now, because it's a game I think people are going to be excitedly talking about in the next few weeks.

I am utterly gutted that I've finished the single-player of Portal 2. I'm going back for more.

You know, if the original didn't blow you away, you might not be enthusiastic about 2. I can understand that. However, as someone who considers the original, even with its brevity, well inside his top five games of all time, this second one has been a revelation. It genuinely improves upon the first in every way except possibly in terms of sheer novelty, and even on that score, it does a good job of adding more than enough new content and mechanics.

It's every bit as good as the first, but for different reasons, and those different reasons might just make it a bit better. I'm in love.

Played Portal 2 SP on da PS3. however as I'm currently without da wireless routerz, Imma hafta bring mah box over to a friends place to set the steams up and then get my co-op on via PC!

Until then, I'm minecrafting and I gotta say, the new weather is miiiiighty impressive. Never has a vid'ja game so closely portrayed that lovely feeling of being cozy in your own home while shit's getting harsh outside! But what really wowed me was the thunder and lightning. Find yourself on the top of a mountain while that's going down and it is EPIC!

You, uh... might wanna wait on that. Since launch day of Portal 2 the PSN has been down, which as of right now makes it impossible to link your Steam ID with your PSN ID to get the download working. Unless you linked the two accounts beforehand (which is possible), then there's nothing you can really do until PSN gets back up. I've been checking in every day to the support number and every time it's said it's down. It's been a big bummer for me too.

Started replaying Final Fantasy VII while I'm home, also went back and beat Emerald Weapon on my old save. happy.gif

Apart from that I had a little bash on Fallout 3 again but I recently aquired Modnation Racers and Red Dead Redemption so I should imagine those will keep me busy for a while.

Thanks for the tips. I'll think about it more and see what the general feeling is after a bit of time has passed. I'm not always such a miser, honest!

Sorry to rattle on here. I've bought Portal 2 now because for all I complain about the cost of games I do want to support the guys that are cranking out the quality. Thanks for all the reports of how good it is. Like I've said before I'd trust just about anyone here more than a review, specific game tastes rather than a broad recommendation and all that. Also to be fair I would probably pay £30 for Portal 1 so there's really no excuse. I hope that helps anyone who was also in two minds about buying it. No? Nevermind.

A friend on TV Tropes bought me Deus Ex late last year, and I still haven't gotten around to playing it.

I also have a Recettear save file (he also bought me Recettear) that I haven't touched in quite a while...I need to get back to it! Though I'm still so subconsciously afraid of messing up that final week (which is where my save is) and causing Recette to live in a cardboard box...

Lots of games right now!

Still playing Sims Medieval. It's great for losing hours' worth of time!

I also tried out Minecraft. My husband's friend had a server and extra copies. It was fun, though I don't think I'm patient enough, haha. Also, I kept running out of picks too fast, which was more irritating than anything.

I recently got back into Runes of Magic. You guys are free to join me smile.gif Literally! It's free to play. Just started that one a few days ago, but I'll probably be on and off of it for a while.

My husband has been wanting me to get into League of Legends. I downloaded it, but haven't given it much of a shot yet. Mainly because he's been too persistent! haha.

Annnd, thanks to the news source that is CoN, I got notified of and persuaded to buy FFIV Complete a few hours ago! It should be fun. I got to play IV on DS, but since it was my friend's I had to give it back before I got too far into it, so I'm excited to be able to play this on my own time without worrying about returning it early.

You're telling me that there's no hope.

I'm telling you you're wrong.

I was playing through the Resident Evil series; went through RE4, Re5, RE0, ReMake in that order. But now I'm back on Final Fantasy, started VII a week or two ago, still on disc 1. After this game is finished, I'm still debating on which to play next out of FFVI, FFIX and FFIV DS. Not sure yet, but there's still plenty of time before I get there. smile.gif

My gaming has been on hold with finals and term papers and all, but I'm currently working on Dissidia (I'm gonna get Duodecim after I beat Inward Chaos - I can't beat the Lv. 110 Chaos at the very end, so I've been leveling up random characters/wasting time in the Duel Colosseum.), FFIV Complete Collection (Do I still think the game's overrated? Yeah. Am I enjoying it, though? Absolutely.), and FFVI (Three-Character WoR - gotta go through the Phoenix Cave and kill the Red Dragon before I can storm Kefka's Tower).
