Anyway, while playing through Final Fantasy Tactics, I noticed some strange random battles taking place during Chapter 4. As I went through various monster-infested areas, I noticed that some battles seemed to have a central theme, or were otherwise out of the ordinary.
Once I had to fight a large Bull Demon at a very high level (70-80, I think), with a Guest Knight named "Striker" (level 60-70) to help. I managed to kill it, but I found it odd that the Bull Demon was the only enemy, as if I had just walked in on a duel between the two. Another instance was when I had to fight a frightful army of fourteen Monks. Not an easy task, since Wave Fist and Earth Slash were devastating my party's HP counts, and Chakra was healing them for no MP cost whatsoever. Has anyone else encountered these strange battles in FFT? Other than challenge, do you think they have some sort of significance? -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Yeah, I've fought those two battles as well as some others. In the area where Bart Company is all "Give us Mustadio but we don't want to fight" (I think it's Bariaus Hill), I fought a red dragon, a green dragon, a blue dragon, a hydra, a hyudra, a behemoth, a king behemoth, and a dark behemoth, and got either a Hydra or Hyudra as a guest (I don't remember which). That was difficult and I didn't win. I also fought fourteen green samurais at Yuguo Woods and won...that was nice because I stole all their crystals at the end, and Samurai takes quite a bit of JP to master. FT fought some weird battles when he went through with a gameshark, though, and he can tell you all about those.

omg i know tons..
the 4 bull demons and a goblin  vs. 7 behemoths on finath river its so funny just to sit there and watch (and also do status effect spells on them while theyre fighting each other.) the barious hill battle neal was talking about i beat, thanx to orlandu and his 500hp damage lightning stab, and everyone else had poach skill equipped so out of like 10 monsters i got only like 2 things that were useful! then i fought the 12 male ninjas and one female ninja at
but i didnt win that battle cause they all go first and they all chuck high damaging items.(and no i didnt have catch equipped cause i didnt know i was gonna get into such a battle.) i fought the monk battle too and won cause i have pro wizard with calculator as sec. skill with flare, so i just found something that would hit them all with flare abunch of times. i also fought mediators equipped with stone guns at
they miss quite alot of times, good for undead tho. i guess thats about it. -------------------- Why do kamakazi pilots wear helmets? |

I beat the Barius Hill one with my own party. Basically, we were cornered. My two people with Math Skills were protected by the other three who had Blade Grasp, which i may add is the best Counter Skill.
The Ninja battle is very easy if you use a party made up of Samurais. Samurais have protective and damaging attacks. Plus, they can hit multiple people with one attack, as well as randmoly causing status effects. -------------------- "The Master of Past, Present, and Future has returned." |

im gonna have to disagree with you on that, blade grasp isnt the best skill, it only blocks from human melee attacks, not monsters. -------------------- Why do kamakazi pilots wear helmets? |

I agree; Blade Grasp is very useful when up against a bunch of human melee fighters, but not against a horde of beasts. Auto-Potion is my personal favorite Counter skill, if only because it's really cheap and very effective.
![]() But I digress. I will add that a battle against many Ninjas wouldn't be impossible. Although Ninjas are one of the best character classes in the game, they tend to die quickly without Equip Armor and/or Auto Potion, two features which random battle AI rarely makes use of. Not to mention that Ninjas won't have much in the way with healing, since their magical capabilities aren't too hot and the computer doesn't seem to favor heavy usage of items. Still, it would be pretty tough, considering Ninjas have a penchant for killing things very fast, and going first all the time. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. What are you people talking about? Blade Grasp blocks all normal attacks, humand and monster. The only thing it can't block are special attack like Choco Ball, Fire Breath, etc.

Assuming this is true, the point still stands. The monsters typically use some sort of special attack during their sorties, unless they're at really low levels. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. You can think what you like, but when I fought the Barius Hill battle, the Dragons, Hydras, and Chocobos more than always used normal attacks, especially since they cornered me, making things a lot easier. I have to admit.

I recently encountered a few special battles, of various difficulty :
At Lenalia Plateau, I encountered a group of calculators ! If it wasn't for my own calculators, I think I would have lost. I ran into the duel with the knight and the minitaurus at Zeklaus Desert. I remember fighting in a previous game the battle with the monks at Grog Hill (PRAISE BE THE CALCULATOR). In some woods, I can't remember wich one, I was attacked by a troop of samourais. At the first batlle location (Mandalia Plains), I encountered a pack of dragons, mostly green and blue. I didn't do the all ninjas battle in Araguay Woods, but I did see a tough battle with ninjas in the Deep Dungeon stage called Horror. I think that's about it, but a friend of mine told me that there is a special battle like these ones for every stage... |

Once on Mandalia Plains I ran into 7 chocobos and a Black Goblin and another time I only ran into one Red panther.

Actually Blade Grasp blocks a bunch of physical enemy skills. I don't really like using auto-potion, it's quite risky against Hydra that can kill you in one shot if you don't have the HP to survive.
I beat the Bariaus Hill monsters with my own party, but those Monks destroyed me. I wasn't very prepared and never fought them again. I probably should try again. -------------------- Lou: There's a couple of guys fighting down at the aquarium, Chief. Wiggum: Do they still sell those frozen bananas? Lou: I think so. Your friend is wrong, not every stage has it's own special battle. Â I once encountered random battle at Mandalia Plains(coming from both Thieves' Fort and Gariland) where I had a Lancer and a Red Panther as a guest. Â It's weird, it's like they just tossed in a random guest to help you battle the enemies. -------------------- Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them. I've been to every stage and if they did have a special battle, I would have seen it. Â Bervenia Volcano and Poeskas Lake, to name a couple, don't have one.
Ever have that Monk help you at Mlapan(It's Napalm spelled backwards)? Why would they send in a Monk to help you fight just 3 enemies? I remember fighting only 1 Gobbledeguck at Dolbador Swamp; it was funny. I was like, "Heh, he thinks he wants to fight all 5 of us." -------------------- Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them. Don't live your life to please anyone, make yourself happy. Since the friend I asked hacked the game with a gameshark, I trust him more than you. He directed me to Gamefaqs.com to check it out, and was right : check out the site for a Battle List FAQ (I had put a link, but it doesn't work, sorry) And if I may add, a battle with a Red Panther and a Lancer as Guest IS a weird battle... |

Look, I don't care who you trust. I was just telling the truth.
![]() You definitely won't see a special battle at Nogias. I love that guest battle at Bed Desert. A Red Dragon will help you battle some Green Dragons, Mages, and Archers, but the Red Dragon doesn't do too well though. -------------------- Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them. Every battlefield has a rare battle. You just might not notice because some of them don't really stand out much.

The craziest battle there will ever be in that game is in the mountains (this is not a main battle) and you have to fight like 2 yellow chocobos 4 black chocobos, and like 3 red ones the battle is way to frickin hard.
P.S. if ur team can beat them at lvl 40 and up you can beat the game. -------------------- "If Satan is the prince of darkness, then that would make me the KING!" |

Doesn't anyone ever use Mustadio? He can be your most useful character in the random event battles (arm & leg aim).
And I have to say, the monk battle was the nastiest of any of them, try beating it with a fem thief, a summoner, ramza as a ninja, and a priest and a lancer... (actually, it's easier that way... think charm & summon...) And to add to the list, I think Bervenia volcano DOES have an event battle, I fought 7 Ahrimans there once, not nice at all. |
