I decided to whip this up, mostly cuz for awhile today my internet wasnt working and I had nothing better to do. So I thought I'd try writing an FF4 fanfic. It's about surprise, Kain. Well, lemme know what you think.

Final Fantasy IV: Kain’s Fate
Chapter I – The Trial

Can’t give up… I just, I won’t… I can’t. What am I doing here? I’ll never be as good as Cecil. Never. He has the light inside of him, he has Rosa, and… he has everything. Worthless, I am worthless.

Kain leaps into the air. As his body cuts into the air he holds his lance behind him. Just as he reaches the maximum height of his jump, he pauses midair and closes his eyes.

No.

Kain snaps himself into a position that parallels aerodynamic perfection. He whizzes downward through the air, his eyes focused on the target.

I am...

Kain plunges into a zombie. Delivering a kick with such velocity and strength. The zombie falls to the ground as Kain returns to his fighting position.

Not worthless. I’ll prove it!

Kain whips out his spear and begins to flail it about, pieces of Lamia flesh scatter about the air, as if they were the petals of a seasoned dandelion. Tears begin to run from Kain’s eyes as he continues to furiously rip through his opponents. He stands there alone, surrounded by corpses.

This is not even a challenge… How did Cecil do it? I don’t understand, he became so powerful, and I have barely excelled. I have even started using my old spear. I might as well downsize my weaponry to a tree branch.

“I am getting nowhere doing this. How Cecil… How…”

Inside the Mysidian Pub and Inn a group of darkly armored men sit around a table laughing and talking obnoxiously. An elderly man walks up to the group and stares at them in an angry manner.
“What do you want old man?”
“Can you please keep the noise down? My son is trying to sleep upstairs.”
“Tell you what, we’ll be quiet. Gee Sammy I don’t think he heard us. Must be old age setting in.”
“HEY GEEZER! WE’LL TRY TO BE MORE QUIET!”
“I fail to see the humor in this.” The old man says as he walks away.
The group of men laugh uncontrollably. The door of the pub slowly swings open the figure of a dragoon stands in the doorway. As he walks in, it appears to be an incredibly worn out and beaten down Kain.
“Run… You have to run.” Kain weakly mutters as blood squirts out of his mouth.
The group of men spring up out of their seats, grab their swords and run to the door. Kain grabs one of the men.
“CECIL! Is that you? Is that you man? How?”
The dark knight pushes Kain away. He fumbles about and falls onto the floor. The knight looks down upon the broken dragoon.
“Cecil? Who the hell is Cecil?”
The knight walks out the door. Kain drags himself toward a chair. The sound of clacking steel emanates from outside the pub. The elderly man grabs his staff and walks out door. Kain sits at the table gazing at it as if there were an invisible trinket resting at the center of it. He slowly raises his hand. A waitress walks over to the table.
“Two shots… Vodka.”
The waitress walks back to the bar. The old man’s voice can be heard from inside the pub. He screams the word Fire, and then the sound of rolling inferno projects from outside. A few minutes pass, Kain sits and sips on his vodka, the sounds of burning flames and clashing metal keeps an ongoing cycle. Without warning a loud thump breaks the cycle, it is then followed by four consecutive thumps. Kain pulls himself out of the chair. He then reaches inside his armor and reveals a brightly glowing flask.

Thank god… I still have an elixir left.

“Time for Round two.”
Kain chugs the elixir, he pulls out his spear and slowly walks toward the door. He pauses and looks down.
“You’re not worthless…”
Kain charges outside as though his spear was guiding him. He collides with a black armored, Dragoon with a dark blue glow. He delivers blow after blow with his spear, each time he is blocked perfectly by the dark dragoon. A disembodied voice fills the air.
“Kain… before you can truly win you must vanquish the darkness.”

What the hell is he babbling about! That’s what I’m doing vanquishing the darkness. He’s the one who pulled this evil bastard out of me. What am I suppose to do.

Kain continues to attack without a break in sequence. He leaps into the air, and then so does the enemy. The battle continues while they soar through the air. Kain throws a spin kick into the Dark Dragoon. It is the first of his attacks to connect with the dragoon, in which case sends him into an unstable rotation. Kain uses this opportunity to dive into the dragoon spear first, and then delivers a few corkscrew kicks. The Dark Dragoon is forced downward into the ground, while Kain continues to rise. The Dark Dragoon regains his footing and jumps into the air once again.
“Damn it! What the hell do I do?”
Kain continues to rise into the air. He finally reaches the peek of his jump.
“ANSWER ME!”
“If you do not know Kain, seek the answer from deep inside your soul.”
“Okay what the sh*t does that mean!”

All right Kain, think, think Kain. What does it all mean? Deep inside my soul… Deep inside my soul… He is my evil, he thrives off my darkness, how can I beat him? How do I remove my evil… my darkness…I’m evil, I am dark… the things I have done… the crimes I have committed… so wrong, so unforgivable.

“Wait… That’s it!”

Kain is interrupted by a boot to the face. Kain’s head is shoved downward, until finally it is slams into the ground. Kain lies there lifeless with the Dark Dragoon’s foot upon his buried head. Suddenly the glow from the Dragoon’s armor ceases. He is then thrown off Kain and into the air.

Kain, you have redeemed your self over and over. I have saved the world from destruction. All the bad I have done in my entire life has been paid for ten fold. Rosa forgives me.

Kain lifts himself up from the dirt.

Rydia forgives me.

Kain shakes head, releasing the dirt stuck to his helm.

Edge forgives me.

Kain looks around. He locates his spear and locks onto it with his eyes as he walks toward it.

Cecil… Out of everyone I have ever wronged, it has been him, he has been wronged the most and he forgives me.

He grasps the spear and pulls it up from the dirt.

After all this time… I can finally let go. I know now what I should do.

The Dark Dragoon gets up from the ground and charges toward Kain, as he runs toward him his body begins to disintegrate and blur as though his very existence was being erased.
“Your not worthless… you CAN seize the light.”
Kain closes his eyes and throws his spear into the disintegrating dragoon. Upon impact the spear glows with a light blue essence. As it passes through the dragoon he shatters like a mirror. The pieces of the former dragoon hit the soil, smoke rises off the shards with each passing second they slowly fade from existence.
“Kain…” The voice startles the tired dragoon, “You are indeed worthy of redemption.”
“Who are you?”
“That is the wrong question… the real question is: Why?”
“Huh?”
“Why do you train, day in and day out, why do you wish to achieve such power.”
“I don’t know… I have no real purpose anymore, so I challenge myself everyday.”
“You waste my time.”
“What!”
“The last soul that journeyed upon this mountain had a purpose, the light inside him was awakened because he had reason. Return when you have purpose.”
Kain begins to walk back to the pub, on the ground lie the warriors that had lost to the Dark Dragoon. He pauses, looks at them.
“They’re still alive.”
Kain continues his way to the pub. He steps inside grabs a chair and signals the barmaid.
“Two shots… Vodka… and keep it coming.”

Chapter II coming soon, that is... if people actually are interested in this bit of work. Oh and I realize that Vodka probably doesnt exist in the Final Fantasy world, but I just like the sound of that alcohol.. VODKA... say it with me VODKA... haha.

Hey, I like that you decided to take up that idea about Kain's alternate fantasy. It's always an open door for fanfic writers to run away with. I will say this about your fic, however, and that is that it seems to jump around too much. I wasn't exactly sure what was happening after the scene in the bar. I think he walked out of the bar in Mysidia and was suddenly on Mt. Ordeals or something, but I'm not sure. The Dark Dragoon kinda came out of nowhere, too. Maybe put some more filler into this chapter as to perhaps guide the reader a bit more. You've probably got the whole scene with you in your head as you read it, but others might not and it's hard to think of writing that way. You gotta reread it as if you were....well, not you. I have a habit of doing it myself sometimes, and then I'll have to go back and write entire sections to fill in. It's a chore, but sometimes ya gotta do it. But please keep this up, because the premise kicks major arse happy.gif . Kain r0x0rz j00r s0x0rz!
