It's the tenth birthday of FFVI and for the occasion, I'd like to know how was your first time? Did you loved? liked? disliked? hated? you didn't care?

Me, I was 9 years old and I hadn't learned english yet. It was hard for me, because I had no idea of what to do. The hardiest part of the game was the Vargas battle. I thought I had to do the Blitz when I hear the sound. I gave up after two weeks. I was tired to get an error message. And someday, my friend showed me how to do. blush.gif

When I won this battle, I was very (maybe too) happy. Yes, I did it! (with someone's help but I didn't care).

Another good part of the game was when I finished the opera and fly to Vector. I was thinking "Yes! At last! I'll kick Kefka and Gesthal @$$£$" But, my friend was a real SPOILER and he told me the rest of the story and how to get Gogo and Umaro. (I was always asking him some things about the game, since I didn't understand too well. He got tired and explained me the entire story sad.gif )

But when I arrived to the last battle with my party at level between 70 and 90 (I don't remember). I thought "Yes! Some challenge! At last!" Kefka disappointed me because I thought that he was harder than this (he's a god after all). But the endings comforted me a little. I believe that the ending is the best part of the game.

After, when I began to learn english, the game was more entertaining than ever. And today, after 8 years of playing, this is again my favorite game ever.

And you?

I don't rightly remember when my first FFVI game was. When I was younger, like 7, my brothers played it, and I watched. I liked it a lot. I think I might have started a new game then, but I stopped or something. I just beat it for the first time like a month ago, although I've started around 20 new games. dry.gif

I didn't get it when it first came out because of that $80 price tag. About a year before, a friend had introduced me to FFII(IVj) and I couldn't get enough of it, this was my first RPG experience. Secret of Mana came out, and around that time Nintendo Power, which my friend and I read religiously, released screenshots for FFIII. The first shot I saw was of Terra, Vicks, and Wedge looking over the town at the very beginning. I was astonished at the quality of the graphics, particularly the cliff as it faded into the background. The other shot showed Leo using Shock on the fake Kefka. My mind immediately went over the differences between the battle graphics in II and III. The sprites in III seemed smaller, but the graphics were so colorful I barely noticed.

I got the game for Christmas, a couple months after it was released. Couldn't put it down then, and it's still hard to put down now.

I remember I was 12 and I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power and the last issue I ever got had FFIII (then) and Secret of Mana in it. I thought Secret of Mana looked cool and went to go rent it but I accidently rented FFVI. When I started playing I thought it sucked at first until THE MAN showed up. Once Locke got involved the game became more interesting and the storyline started to pick up. It was the first time I ever stayed up all night to play a game, luckily it was a weekend so my parents didn't care. Once I got to the Oprea House I was hooked but I had to return the game. I had to wait about a month till I had enough money to save up to buy it.

I definitely didn't manage to buy it right when it came out, but I got it right before a giant blizzard hit the North American East Coast in 1996. School was out for a week and more where I lived, and I basically melted into the carpet in front of the TV playing it. Fortunately or unfortunately, I will always associate the winter of my senior year of high school with that game.

Everyone needs to stop thinking this is the 10 year anniversary. True it came out in Japan in April of 1994 but that doesn't matter to us. We didn't get the game until October so let's save the celebrations until then ok? I'd like to get a hold of the magazines that covered FF6 along with the TV commercial. This can all be contributed to a special CoN segment celebrating the real 10 year anniversary.

FF6 was $80 at release? Well for 1994 that was one hell of a game so that kinda makes sense. Plus Square was weird about bringing FF games to the US but that was probably Nintendo's fault for their censorship policies. Square was probably like "Alright we'll bring this game to the US but it's gonna have to come out of the consumers' pockets." I think the game was $60 when I got it on August 21st, 1995 for my 13th birthday.

My cousin who comes over from the Boston area to Chicago every Christmas had gotten FF6 for his birthday which is like January 3rd. So he was still around from Christmas though him and my aunt/uncle were getting ready to leave. I remember watching him go through Narshe with the Magitek soldiers thinking "wow the graphics and music are so much better than FF4, this looks like a lot of fun". I had rented FF4 sometime during the last year and played through most of it before returning it to Blockbuster. Other than that the only other RPGs I was familiar with was Dragon Warrior which I had played through 3 times, and I had also bought FFMQ from the bargan bin for $20 for the same reason everyone else did... because it had the FF name on it ("ooo, my first Final Fantasy game" laugh.gif).

After going through Narshe my cousin had to leave back to Massachusetts so that was the last I saw of that game for the time being. When my mom came to pick me up from my grandparent's home where we all were, I wanted to rent FF6 so bad. We went to Blockbuster but they didn't have any copies of FF6 on account of them all being rented out. sad.gif About 3 weeks later I did get to rent it and got stuck on Mt. Kolts. I couldn't even get to Vargas because I didn't have any tents to heal my guys at the save point, and I had no Star Pendants or Antidote spell so my guys kept getting poisoned. After a dozen tries I just restarted the game, and upon arriving at Mt. Kolts again I got stuck on Vargas because I couldn't do Plummel. Not only that but it was time to return the game. pinch.gif Oh well, I didn't was to spoil too much of the game on the first rent anyway. I decided to just wait until my birthday and get it. I was already aware of the fact that this was the greatest game ever.

As you can imagine I was very happy when I finally got the game on August 21st. I mean, that moment rivaled the moment when I got my SNES in 1992. I don't think I've ever had a moment like that since which may be why I'm so attached to the game. This game was just pure gold back in 1994 and even today it's still a well respected title.

To make a long story short, I accidently deleted my game right after I had gotten the airship in the WoR and had to start the game over again. I did and played right through it to the end this time, having my characters at level 70 thinking that Kefka was going to be very hard. After all Dragon Warrior was a very hard game where training was a routine activity and with Kefka being the supreme being and the ruler of the WoR up in this high tower, I expected quite a challenge from him. This turned out to be the huge letdown of FF6, the one thing that the game really fell short on.

my first time playing the game was when i was 6 years old and my brother was playing it on the CPU (rom and emulator)... i begged him to let me play and after 2 weeks of constant pestering he finally let me... i remember getting to figaro and to vargas and found it too hard so i game genie'd it (mainly cuz i like the storyline of the game better than working for that storyline) 2 years later i tryed playing it again, again attempting to play non cheating and got to figaro castle in the WoR and found it too hard, so again i GG'd it, three years after that i finally beat it non cheating... and to this day is my favorite game

I played it my first time when I was 9 years old with my friend across the street. It was too expensive for either of us to buy with our allowances, so we saved ours together for a couple of months (I put in more, so in the end the game was technically mine). I remember thinking how cool it was that we could play it together, and I still think that's an awesome thing about the SNES version (I don't know if it's the same on PSX). I used primarily Sabin and Gau, and he used Gogo and Celes. We played it for months, leveling up and getting better items. *sigh* I suppose I'm a bit nostalgic for the days when I didn't know all the technical aspects of the game, like stats or the vanish/doom trick. Gogo was the best because he could do the most stuff. Period. Atma weapon can't be the best, it doesn't come equiped when you use optimum. Terra and Celes must have the best magic power because they're the ones who come with magic naturally, duh. Good times, good times.

My first time was actually a bit more recent compared to y'all. I had recently gotten an old hand-me-down SNES and some games, and among the games was FFVI. I actually didn't touch it for three or four months (busy with Mario stuff and Chrono Trigger), but once I started playing, I was hooked. It was the first RPG I can remember where I actually completed every sidequest on my first playthrough. Granted, I didn't know about the Paladin Shield, but that's not exactly a sidequest.

Kefka-killers:
Sabin
Mog
Gogo
Umaro

Notable Renames:
Terra: Jenny (Princess Jennifer to you!)
Locke: Jones (How generic.)
Mog and Umaro: Crow and Servo (Bite me. It's Ultimariffic!)

well, my first time was 4 years ago. I had to use an emulator to play it 'cause there never came a pal version out of it before this anthology that came last year. I was 9 or 10 and I had no experience in english. after some time I was bored cause I don't understand anything. 2 years later I started again, my English were improved and I understand nearly all of the text. When I began this time there were summer holidays and I beat it after a week, from this time on FF VI was my favourite game.

I remeber way back about 3 or 4 years ago when I got FFIV and FFVI from a freind. I had played FFIV before and loved it to dealth, therefore I played that most of time. But later when I beat it a few times I started to play FFVI. Me and my gramma would play FFIV a lot and she said, "That game looks too fancy." But I loved it. It was soo full of surprises and and mystery, it was like nothing I had ever played in my whole entire life. I finially beat it like a year ago.. Yup it took me 3 or 2 years to beat it. One my nintendo would sometimes erase my saved games and two i wanted to "savor" the gameplay.

I don't remember all the details, but I remember being thoroughly impressed. I had just spent a lot of time playing FF4, so I was blown away.

The biggest thing I remember about my first time through, though, is the scene where
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
General Leo is killed, and then shortly after Interceptor comes along with a nasty wound and your characters think he is dead, too.
I was so sad and I was angry at the Empire, specifically Kefka, I suppose.

It was a great feeling, because it meant I was getting into the game.

This is one of my really clear memories of when I was a kid. It was 7th grade, the game had just been released a week or so prior, and we had just started our Fall Break(Plano has those). I got FF6 from Funcoland by trading in 5 other games and a few bucks in cash. I immediatly took the game over to my friends house, where we played the game straight for 3 days. When one of us slept, the other would level up. We ended up beating the game after 4 or 5 days, and we were so psyched. What did we do next? We started another game of course, this time taking our time and getting as much as we possibly could without looking at a walkthrough. This was definitly the best experience I ever had with any video game period. Thank you Square.

When I downloaded the FFIIIus ROM early in my senior year of high school, I had played FFIIus before (for my only other FF experience then), as well as CT and SMRPG from Square, and Pokemon (for other RPGs). One thing that I noticed was that although the player doesn't start out knowing what's really going on (a classic plot device for Square games), it didn't leave me confused the way FFIIus did. The plot not only made sense, but was very compelling.

I often see the change in circumstances between the time I began a game and the time I ended it. For FFIIIus, I began it one night while doing homework at the computer, and I finished it after going through the rest of senior year, AP exams, yearbook signing, feeling nostalgia for high school days, graduating from HS, then going off to college, and then starting classes in college. I finally beat it one night in my dorm room, and I've noticed that, with such a long extent of time between my beginning this adventure and my finishing, I've associated a lot of different experiences with different parts of the game. Did what I just said make sense? I doubt it, but I'll give you a sampling. I often associate (unintentionally) various things that happen with other things that are essentially unrelated but happen about simultaneously, and although my associations for this game aren't as strong as some other ones (e.g. associating the Intro Stage music of MMX3 with my first realizing that I like Meredith and with Lord of the Flies because just as I read this strange although eerily logical parable about stranded children turning evil the old SNES9X emulator in my math room's computer (the teacher didn't mind us playing) failed the graphics of MMX3 and Meredith didn't like me although I did like her and that feeling of frustration!!), I did take several "temporomancing" measures, such as delaying the Floating Continent scenario (yes, I had it spoiled for myself by using online walkthroughs) until after I got to college. (Sorry for the uber-long paragraph of nonsense.)

I came to admire the design of the game as an extraordinary specimen in the field of console RPGs. The emotions and decisions of each character seemed so...realistic that it was absolutely astonishing. Even Kefka, whom I so hated but so admired for Square's excellent villain design, was amazing in that he had so many stereotypes but never became boring. Now none of this praise I have given so far has even mentioned the music--*cannot find words to comment, because it is just so darn good*.

Anyways, FFVI (FFIIIus in my case) is truly one of the greatest games ever made, and I feel so fortunate to have been able to enjoy it.

I was like five when i started it and i remember how much i loved it i would always watch my bros play it took me about 3 months to beat vargas because i didnt know what a blitz was then after that i got all the way to where u fight kefka for the first time in narshe while defending the frozen esper and i tryed for 5 months but still couldnt beat it so i copyed my brothers file smile.gif unfortunatly he was all the way to the WOR so i missed a whole bunch of story and now as i play through it on a ROM i think that this has to be one of the best games ever invented but u have to admit for a 4-5 year old that is pretty impressive
