Have there ever been any FF characters that really emotionally toughed you? Ones you could relate with? Ones that made you cry, laugh, get mad at, or want to hug? If so, do tell.

Personally, I've always been able to relate to Edgar and Zidane. Edgar, because he feels the responsibility to do many things, and Zidane, because he's such a joker, and he's always being slammed by the ladies.
The only FF character the almost made me cry was Locke, because...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
...his back-story with Rachel was so sad.

Anywho, tell me about these whcih characters made you laugh, cry, err... etc.

When I was a kid Locke was my favorite FF character. The story between him, Rachel, and Celes was definitely tumultuous. I was very intrigued by the whole subplot.

I always liked Shadow. It's gotta be the whole mystery of his past, and then his quest for redemtion. I just found myself wanting to know more about his character. The same thing applies to Vincent from FF7.

Two characters were emotional for me: Cyan because of his losses and Aeris because of her fate. I also can relate to Gau who struggles to fit in with the rest of the group.

The whole Locke, Celes and Rachel triangle has always got to me.

Palom and Porum choose their fate.

Cid, when he thanks Shera.

Cecil and Rosa.

Squall, how he opens up his heart at the end.

Im a sucker for this stuff.

When he was killed, he sacrificed himself to use meteo. it was emotional for me cuz that guy was the friggin shiznit, i mean besides the annoying i cant get more the 99 mp bit.

Or maybe FF9 Zidane and Garnet

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
At the end when Zidane was supposedly killed, and then he came back, oh man, i was so moved, i know it sounds corny but jeez, and then at the end when it played Garnets lil song thing... i almost queued the water works.

Vivi - FFIX
I think Vivi is one of the best characters ever in a videogame. He's so damn cute that you can't help but feel sorry for him, and his problems in the game are easy to identify with. His journey to find out who he truly is was very well done and I got a strong sense of satifaction watching him become stronger.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
FF4: Tellah, especially his battle with Golbez.

FF5: Cara and Galuf; Galuf's battle with Exdeath (even though I had it spoiled for me already--hey, shows how well done this is!); Lenna and her Hiryuu; Butz and his parents; and to some extent, Lone Wolf and King Tycoon saving the team (especially Faris getting to know King Tycoon just before he dies).

FF6: Maduin's story; Locke, Rachel, and Phoenix; Cyan's misfortunes; Celes on the floating continent; Setzer and Daryl. Needless to say, Gestahl and Kefka were perfectly horrifying.

FF7: (I've only gotten a bit into the game) Barret, after the plate falls.

Additionally:
SMRPG: Mallow, when he discovers that he's not a tadpole, and when he finds his real parents.
CT: Crono after being revived (Marle kisses him; if you don't bring Marle but bring Lucca, you get to see Lucca kiss him (I'm not sure if Ayla would do the same)), Marle and King Guardia XXIII after the king's trial, Lucca and her mother, Frog (most of his roles), Janus and Schala and the fate of their original home. Queen Zeal is only beaten by Kefka in evilness.

EDIT2: the ending of FFV. Bravissimo, Square!

There are a few characters who have at least put lumps in my throat.

Locke: for the whole Rachel thing.

Celes:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
her suicide attempt made me bawl my eyes out.

Terra: realizing that she did, in fact, find love, just not in the way I was expecting.

Yuna:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
finding someone who could show her to live and enjoy life, only to lose him once her mission is over. Then, getting her hopes up that he may still be alive, only to find out that it was really just some guy from a 1000 years ago.

Gau: the scene with his father, coupled with Gau's theme song, to this day pulls at my heart strings.

Kid: the scene that takes place with Serge after he saves her from the house.

(ugh, I can't describe anything to save my life)

See what characters made me emotionally attach. Its been a while since I played most FF games, but am in the process of beating FF5.

FF4: Tellah, because he had to die and he was the shiznit.
Kain, because he was always being controlled and wasn't able to do much about it.

FF5: Galuf, for sacrificing himself when he fought X-Death. This may chance since I haven't beaten it yet.

FF6: Locke, because of his past, but he had a killer sense of humor.
Terra, for not remembering who she is, but always kept it together.
Shadow, for being mysterious and for being himself!
Cyan, for his family being killed and seeking revenge.

Can't remeber much about the oter FF games. So there it is for me.

FF2: Josef (All of them could have escaped)
FF4: Tellah (What he said when he died, it seemed as if he had more to say)
FF5: Galuf (All the Light Warriors of Dawn where dying, and this one was
inevitable)
FF6: Cyan (The part at the train)
FF7: Red XIII (When he finds out about his father)
FF9: Vivi (If you don't feel sorry for him...)
FF10: Auron (The Ending)

I felt sorry for Aeris, but not that much, since she would join Zack in the afterlife,
and I felt sorry for Zack, how he got killed.

In FFT, it must be Izlude, but I should feel sorry for Meliadoul because she was
betrayed by Vormav.

For other games, I think I'll post later.

FF10: At Home, when Tidus breaks down in the Summoner's place.
FF10: The ending, when Auron thumps Kimhari on the chest...one of the most memorable moments ever...

FFIX had the most character development. Everyone got to speak to each other rather than in FF6, and everyone developed feelings towards each other. Everyone does; even the recluse, Amarant.

Cait Sith -
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Although I can't remember it exactly, when the second Cait Sith comes after he's betrayed them...all he wants is people to forgive him basically. That's his reason for fighting.
Meh, but it looks like a few people on this board haven't forgiven him as much as Shadow. Cattists! (happy.gif) [/SPOILER]

Vivi and Quina -
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Qus and Black Mages are my favourite species. Vivi touched my heart the most when all those other Black Mages saved him because he was one of them...and they they died for him. Vivi's little hands against the glass as his eyes stare down in sorrow...I cried then. But I cried my tear glands out when him and Quina get married (if you make them). Quina was so happy; and Vivi was kinda reluctant. Nevertheless, him and her have lots and lots of Qu and Black Mage children! o(happy.gif)o

heh, I guess I should follow the trend of posting using the good old spoiler tag.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view

FFIV: Edward, Tellah. Edward's dream sequence with the Sand hag (I think that was the enemy's name) and later when he assists the party by playing the twin harp. Though he was an awful fighter, his character was by far my favorite in FFIV. Tellah's self-sacrificial use of Meteo against Golbez always struck my heartchord.

FFV: eh, didn't really get attached to any of the characters in this game.

FFVI: Setzer, Locke, Shadow, and Cyan. Setzer is my favorite playable FF character, and his background with Darryl was quite depressing. The whole Locke/Rachel flashback sequence and then Phoenix revivification was quite touching. Shadow's depressing, solitary history was incredibly well done. Cyan's loss of both kingdom and family and his later confrontation with his inner turmoil are among the most emotionally intense moments in a video game.... ever.

FFVII: Aeris, I suppose. I wasn't really a fan of her regardless, but seeing Sephie carve her up did make me a bit mad, I suppose.

Chrono Trigger: Frog / Glenn, Robo, Magus, Chrono. Frog's storyline was by far the most compelling within the game as far as his companionship with Cyrus, and his struggle against Magus. When Robo enters the factory in which he was created and confronts his robotic brethren and is nearly destroyed, I found myself gasping in awe. Magus was amazing as far as his transition from purely dark baddie to troubled youth trying to change the past and save his sister. Chrono's death and rebirth were also very notable.

Without overstepping my bounds as a non-moderator...could someone please put MogMaster's first post in a spoiler tag? Or perhaps MM himself could do it? That's pretty much the biggest spoiler I can possibly imagine, and there are some people even in this thread who haven't finished playing VII. Again, I'm not trying to moderate, but I can't in good conscience not say something about that.

Okay, definently the whole ending of FFX. You see the well of the fayth dry up, and tidus is one of the bubbles. Tidus then tries to hold yuna, even though he can't. Then yuna crying, and tidus jumps of the ship and floats toward braska, jehct and auron, giving his dad a high five. And also when yuna sends auron, he looks at everyone, and says "This is your world now." I'll never forget those words.

Also in ffVII,

Red XIII crying, tring to apologize to his father. And of course, Aries' death. The sasdening music made me so mad at Sephie. I was like, "come on, bring it on, you and me, right here." I seriously thought i was already gonna fight sephie on disk 1. But it pissed me off.

But over all I'd say that she would be the character that I got the most emotional about.
