I'm going to have a sword. A friend of mine is building it. Once upon a time, a sword was big, 5'2" big. It was massive, with a 6" width, and 1/2" thickness. I call this blade the Buster Sword. A total of 2 weeks and 150lbs later. It is completed. I've posted on this sword before, my first post in fact. What I wonder, do you think its possible to wield this blade. Its constructed for Actual Use. Sharpened to a deadly point.
Depending on the outcome of this forum, a second blade may be made. If it is, it will be available for Auction on E-bay, proceeds go toward other merchandise, Armor from other games. *say, Daedric Armor.* Its out next project if another Buster Sword sells well enough. ![]() -------------------- Come, my love, I won't hurt you, I won't bite. Sounds cool. I would bid on it, but I already have a sweet katana, enough to kill anyone. So why would I need another cool sword?

I'd take it if I knew broadswordfighting and could beat you in a duel. I don't have the money, but I would bet something else if I had the time and the resources. I've always wanted to own a nice big broadsword, and although I prefer something like Frog's Masamune (CT), I'd take a Buster Sword.
Do please post updates on how that's going. I'd really like to know. Am very interested ![]() -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! Its nice to know I have support in this. Just to mention, it is perfectly legal to own a sword of any kind. I will begin my payments on the sword come monday, in 1 week about, it will be built. Then its scheduled to be fine-tuned, Polished, Chromed, and sharpened for 1 more week. I'll definately keep you guys posted. I'll post pics of my own when I get it, as well as help with the E-bah listing.

Its quite possible you can weild it, but it'll be very bulky, and have to be used like a 2-handed broadsword. you certainly could never weildit one handed...
However, cloud makes it look easy. Why? In my veiw, all SOLDIER's are Superhuman, genetically engineered via Mako . Possible spoilers: highlight to view However, even they cannot weild these blades one-handed. you'd need a Space Marine to do that, and he'd have a Storm Bolter as well...of course, cloud never actually got mako, but what he did get could do the same trick Quote erm that sounds a bit illegal ![]() a bit?! ![]() of course, in the UK, you get the ARU gunning you down in a hail of 10mm rounds for carrying an apple peeler... *dont you just love the NRA's 47 republican senators, 156 Representative, and 1 president?(?) ![]() This post has been edited by Del S on 13th March 2004 11:30 -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

Hey we canadians can own swords too. My friend James owns a katana and some other funky dagger thingy. We killed a tree in his back yard, shortly after gettin in trouble with his mom.
But we also have a shop called shining armor where you can walk into the store and walk out with you're own arsenal of blades, chainmail gloves, helmets, and other stabby weapons and such. But it kind of kills the mood when you are looking at all these awsome things and then turn around to see a huge rack with kitchen knifes, no not big meat cleavers, little steak knives and crappy stuff like that. -------------------- - The problem isn't relgion, the problem is religious tolerance - |

Any other post is off-topic. heh, if the topic name seemed a little off Ranger, the forst post deals with it to. The point was to see how many people would consider it wieldable at 150lbs. Plus to talk about the reality of the sword, any posts about my sword or other peoples sword could be allowed i'd say, by the content of the first post. Anything relating to other swords or no connection with the Buster sword, that i'd agree on. -------------------- Come, my love, I won't hurt you, I won't bite. Well, there are jocks that are proud to be able to bench press 150
Now, consider taking that bar, and instead of holding it in the middle and moving it in only two directions, grab it by the end and swing it around with ease. Quote (l)arkShadow @ 14th March 2004 12:57) if cloud can twirl it into a whirlwind, so can anybody else. it is weildable... ithink Well, considering how Cloud is a video game character, and thus, NOT REAL, I don't see your logic. Quote (Jerak @ 20th March 2004 14:16) i think the buster sword is wieldable... with practice... Using the Buster sword has nothing to do with practice. If you are talking about a Katana, saber, foil, etc, your ability to defeat the enemy is completely reliant on your skill and form. With something as bulky and heavy as the Buster sword, your ability to defeat the enemy relies on you having enough strength to lift the the thing, and then lunge it in some odd direction and hope that they happen to be standing there. You might as well pick up a tree and swing it. That, of course, would only work if real-life sword fights were done in the "Ok, I hit you, now you hit me" fashion of FF. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Sure I think it would be weildable if you trained with it enough to where you could get used to swinging something that weighed 150 lbs...it might take awhile but it's possible...if you put it on ebay though I would bid on it but not to use it...just because I have been a Final Fantasy VII fan ever since I got the first demo about a years before the game was released and I would like to have something like that as a collector's type thing...also no it isn't illegal...I just checked and there are three buster swords on ebay which might I ad are all selling for around $600 each...however the first appearence of the buster sword was long before FF7,it is an actual sword called the Slayer II.
The only problem with selling it on ebay is that not many ppl wanna pay a crap load for a sword and then also pay 150lbs worth of shipping...if I were you I would prefer they come pick the sword up after the auctyion unless you actually wanna send off a package that big in the mail...good luck with your sale. -------------------- Climhazzard is the timeless evil robot who runs some of the cool stuff at CoN (mostly logging chat, since there are no quizzes at the moment), all the while watching and waiting for his moment to take over the world. -Tiddles |

Just want to say that I've seen reports of a sword found from the Middle Ages that is bigger. It was over 6 feet long and weighed over 200lbs. The only thing is whether it was ever actually used/considered usable.

When I heard about a topic about the buster sword, I thought they meant the one you can equip in FFTA. But making a sword to look like the one in FFVII is weird, no offense.

150 pounds? What is this sword made out of? I'm holding a steel bar 1/9th the size of your sword, and it sure as hell weighs less than 10 pounds.

Where did you get this information of a 200 pound sword from the Middle Ages?
A bastard sword is NOT the largest type of sword, it is a sword that is between a two-hand and one-hand size sword. The handle is one and a half hands long, hence it's a bastard of a one-hand and two-hand sword. The largest swords from the Middle Ages I can recall are those from northwestern europe, particularly Flemish, German, and Scotland. William Wallace's sword was 5' 4", though only replicas cite weight of 8 pounds. I haven't found a sword heaver than 14 pounds on the internet, so enlighten me. |

Angry_Lizard, it's definitely possible to make a titanium sword. I'm not sure if titanium can be folded forged like steel, but a sword can be made nonetheless. |

if u could fold forge titanium, that would be one very strong sword, really cool if they could make an actual samurai sword with it, not one of those fakes, the ones that are folded zillions of times is what im talking about
also does anyone know if adamantium is an actual alloy or something entirely made up This post has been edited by Angry_Lizard on 11th April 2004 19:08 -------------------- THE LIZARDSSS SHALL EATSSS YOU |

OK, we're apparently chatting.
Anyway, titanium isn't what you would call a "strong" metal. It's hard, but not strong. See, metals are graded by two types of force performance. Hardness means how well the metal keeps its shape under stress. Strength is how much stress the metal takes. Titanium is hard, but not strong. Steel is either or both, when alloyed properly. Titanium alloy is, well... you can guess where that is. I used a titanium drill bit on steel. It broke easily. My high carbon steel bit doesn't even wear on steel. Titanium is better used on power tools, specifically circular saws. Conventional circ-saw edges wear out from friction, but titanium withstands the incredible heat and motion. Military aircrafts use titanium for the shell, but commercial airliners use aluminum as a substitute for what titanium is valued for. It's more practical to forge a uranium sword than a titanium one. Uranium shares all the ideal properties of a material metal (hard, strong, malleable), but the radiation and rarity part makes it hard to get, let alone work with. As far as I know, adamantium isn't a real metal. For trivia, adamantium's root word, adamant, is derived from the Greek word for "diamond." So, technically there is an adamantium. |
