Djibriel is correct. Despite Comet's power I'm always dissapointed when I get it...it's such a baby looking spell. Anyway, Djibriel is up.

It's actually Final Fantasy no. VI that's my expertise, but how about this one:
Give me the EXACT percentage of the chance that, providing your in the good area, you enter a battle with six PinkPuffs and you win one Pink tail. Not using Alert, ofcourse. Have a blast with this one. -------------------- |

There's a 1 in 64 chance of fighting Pink Puffs, 1 in 16 chance that a pink puff will drop an item (x6 since there are 6 pink puffs), and 1 in 64 chance that the item dropped will be a tail. So that's (1/64)*((1/16)*6)*(1/64) = 6/65536 or about 1 in 10923. (that's a .0092% chance)

This is in the official CoN FAQ, I submitted the question AND answer
What's the deal with Pink Puffs? The enemy Pink Puffs are found on the Moon, in the underground. They are found on B5 in a far right room (where there's a treasure chest with a CABIN). Good luck encountering one, as the odds are only 1 in 64 unless you use an Alarm item. If you do encounter one, chances are you're NOT going to win (1/64) a Pink Tail from them. The overall odds are 1/4096. If by some miracle you do, you can take the Pink Tail to that tiny Miner guy that you had to reach by hovercraft near Silveria. He'll take the Pink Tail and give you some more Adamant ore. Take the Adamant ore to Kolkol (that Blacksmith in the Earth Underground) and he'll make you the Adamant armor. The turkey goes to Kame. I figured the answer would be around the net somewhere.

That may be what the CoN FAQ says, but it's not correct. What I posted was accurate (except you only run into 5 pink puffs not 6).

gogo -- your reasoning is faulty. you are assuming that pink puffs dropping an itam and pink puffs dropping a pink tail are independant events, whereas the latter is actually a subset of the former. therefore, there is no reason to take into account the (1/16) chance that a pink puff will drop any item, because independant of that, out of every 64 pink puffs you fight, they will drop a pink tail.

Name all the staffs (not rods) in the game and all the characters who can equip them. Please include the ability the staff does when used as an item.

Quote (gozaru~ @ 1st May 2004 00:16) gogo -- your reasoning is faulty. you are assuming that pink puffs dropping an itam and pink puffs dropping a pink tail are independant events, whereas the latter is actually a subset of the former. therefore, there is no reason to take into account the (1/16) chance that a pink puff will drop any item, because independant of that, out of every 64 pink puffs you fight, they will drop a pink tail. That's not how it works. Each monster has a 1 in 20 chance of dropping an item (I was wrong about in being 1 in 16). If they drop an item, there is a 1 in 2 chance of it being the common item (Ether2 for a pink puff), a 5 in 16 chance of being the uncommon item (Elixir for a pink puff), 11 in 64 chance of being the rare item (ninja star for a pink puff), and 1 in 64 chance of being the extra rare item (pink tail for a pink puff). I checked it out to make sure, and I can post the code that handles item drops if you want. |

As I said before, it's FF VI that's my expertise and although it's Kame's answer I read personally before, and it's also the anser I was thinking of. However, Gogo the Great sounds convincing enough. And yes indeed:
Quote What I posted was accurate (except you only run into 5 pink puffs not 6). . 'Tis indeed a formation of FIVE PinkPuffs. And the actual code would be nice. And for Kame's answer: Honoring the code, I'll attempt to do this without looking anything up: Staff = Heal Cure = Cure Silver = Heal Lunar = Nothing Life = Life Confuse = Confuse And the characters would be Cecil, Rosa, FuSoYa, Tellah, Porom. I listed them in terms of Battle power, but I'm not exactly sure if the Confuse Staff was either stronger or weaker then the Life staff. If I'm right, by the way, I inmediatly pass the question to anybody who wants it. Mine expertise is insufficient. -------------------- |

You're missing one staff and the characters are off. You have to name the group of characters for each staff, because the characters differ for each one.

I'm tempted to answer my own question, but I'll hold out for just a bit more.
Think about this fact: character can only use a staff that they can (or will eventually with enough leveling up) cast that spell. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." "You're a total knee biter." |

I, for one, am tempted to go and look into it...but it seems that I'm not allowed to answer the question at all due to topic rules. But that Silence staff, I knew about it. For chrissake, I even got one in one of my play-troughs. How's it possible I missed the thing?

Answer:
Staff = Heal = FuSoYa, Rosa, Rydia©, Porom, Cecil(p), Tellah Cure = Cure = FuSoYa, Rosa, Rydia©, Porom, Cecil(p), Tellah Silver = Heal = FuSoYa, Rosa, Rydia©, Porom, Cecil(p), Tellah Lunar = Weird thing (with no effect) = FuSoYa, Rosa, Porom, Tellah Life = Life = FuSoYa, Rosa, Porom, Tellah Silence= Mute = FuSoYa, Rosa, Porom, Tellah Power = Beserk = FuSoYa, Rosa, Porom, Tellah Since Cecil (paladin) and Rydia (child) will NEVER learn mute, charm , beserk, or life, they're not able to use the coresponding staffs. I suppose this next question is up for grabs! -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." Easy one.
Start battle. Have charecter with weapon you want to dupe select item option in battle. Select empty spot in inventory, push A, and go up to equipted items. Select weapon you want to dupe and push A, will unequip it and put it in said inventory slot. Run from battle. Enter Menu, select equip, choose charecter who removed weapon to dupe. Select empty weapon slot. Re-equip weapon you removed in battle. You now equip 2 of them at once. Just remove them and you will have 2 in inventory instead of 1. -------------------- "And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped” -Sir Bedevere the Wise |

For clarity (Fadien can have the question if it's right), running from battle is not a requirement. In fact you can dupe a weapon over and over again in the same battle. Just reequip it and start the process over.

That's correct. Not sure if you can pass off questions or not. There's no rule about it in the FFVI trivia thread so I guess it's ok.
Moderator Edit Yes, anyone but you can have the question, since you asked the last one. It's up for grabs, and your question is void. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 8th May 2004 18:03 |
