Since square-enix only makes final fantasies for sony (and is starting up with gamecube i.e. crystal chronicles) this troubles me since i own a PS1 and an xbox, so i can only play FF I II IV V VI VII VIII and IX
i am curious as to why square is not making any FF games for XBOX they were rumors speculating about square making one, but they never did is square singling xbox out because it is made by microsoft and not some japan based company or does square feel xbox will fail (which i doubt) if anyone has any insight as to why this is happening please post or post your opinion on the subject -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

It's not a point of "singling out" Microsoft, because they never made games for Sega, Atari, Jaguar, or even Nintendo after Sony came along. It's usually much more economical for smaller third party developers to make games for only one system and sell the rights for games to one system... Most sports games sell better than RPGs so the developers can afford to make games for all platforms and make up for not selling rights to these games. Imagine writing code for one game three different times because you're putting said game on 3 different systems. Also Sony paid Square a hell of a lot of money to get the rights to put some of Square's games on their systems.
And if you're thinking about buying another system don't hitch your wagon to Sony, because I think that FFXII is going to be a Gamecube game if I'm not mistaken. i believe you are mistaken, gerad. if you check either http://www.ff12.com/ or http://www.square-enix.co.jp/games/, you'll notice that ff12 is in fact a game for the ps2 -- or at least listed as such in both places.

Ah well. After CC who knows what could happen though... They may switch for XIII.

Quote (parkspapercut @ 20th March 2004 14:50) havent they got a contract with sony to only make the main ffs on ps (eg 7,10) but then y can they make 11 on pc as well? FF7 and FF8 had (bad) PC ports as well. Likewise with Rockstar's "exclusive to PS2" GTA games (I know they're on Xbox too now, but that was either because of legal trickery or because the licence ran out; I forget which). So it seems that exclusive agreements generally only cover consoles, leaving developers free to pursue PC ports. It does seem that Square doesn't like to bring each game out on more than one console, excluding the rereleases of 16-bit games we've seen, and the remakes of 8-bit ones. Perhaps (and this is entirely speculative, mind) the process of converting those SNES FFs, and FF7 and FF8PC, put them off somewhat; none of these transferred especially well to their new media. |

Speaking of PC versions, I personally own a copy of the PC FFVII, and it's not that bad. Well, it's not an action game, so I guess it doesn't matter that much that you're playing on keyboard.
But I'd wish that Squenix would re-release FFIIIj for PC, since it happens to be the FF just missing from the re-releases we got. I doubt that Nintendo still has rights to it (via the Famicom), even if it ever had it. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing.
