This question was inspired by a question in the trivia questions topic about non-boss non-ragables. Does Rizopas count as a boss? When I first played through it, I noticed I would have no question it was except that it's music was only the normal battle music. I would guess you need some sequence you would need to initiate in order to change the music, but when I thought about it some more, I realized that it was more like (at most) a mini-boss, since it really wans't that tough of an enemy (although it did kick my @$$ once with two El Ninos), nor was it that special--it's only a palette swap of the pirahna, and it's only got a few hundred HP, as I remember.

So should it count as a boss?

I'd say he's a boss because of a combination of a couple of things.

1) Even though he's just a palette swap, you only ever encounter one of him. And, if I remember correctly, he has the "burning away" dying sequence that is just like that of a boss like Whelk or TunnelArmr.

2) He also knows a few spells (you mentioned El Nino). He's also considerably stronger than the other "fish" you fight down the waterfall.

I voted yes because of the burning-away dying sequence that EE mentioned. It just appeared to me that he was more of a boss than a regular enemy.

I voted yes for the abover reasons, and for the fact that he's always beating me. He constantly uses his el nino tech twice on me, and I never have Sabin and Cyan leveled up enough to withstand it.

Another Yes for Rizopas, and for the already stated reasons as well...but he must be one of the easiest bosses of the game, IMO.

I sez he's a boss. He's got that fading fire effect that has already been mentioned, and the fact that there's only one of them. I mean, it.

Yeah he's a boss. Either Square didn't want to bother with programming a song change in the middle of battle, they didn't feel it was neccessary, or both. There are a lot of games where bosses of original enemies are different colors, and it's obvious that this is the case here.

yea, i'd say rizopas is a boss. Just because the boss battle music didn't change dosn't mean hes not a boss. Hes just an easy boss is all.

it is a definate boss,
1) you only encounter rizopas once
*like most bosses (ultros is a special case)

2) he is stronger than the other pirahana
and has the el nido attack

3) he burns away just as some of the other bosses do

Sure, Rizopas is a boss. He's tougher than your average villain at the time (though admittedly not by much), and the fight with him comes at a somewhat boss-worthy point in the game. Also, as stated, he has a different death sequence than most and you only fight him once.

Yep. I count him as a boss. For reasons listed above. That "El Nino" attack is cool and surprising. I remember fighting him the second time I played through the game, without knowing he could cast that spell. I was running short on HP, but thought, "Nah. He can't do anything cool anyway, so I'll beat him". And then, he cast "El Nino". SHABLAM! Everyone in my party died. tongue.gif

i'm not sure ab+ut easy boss. I say thedcharact r combo's good. Cyan and Sa7ins are good at fightin" themse(ves. I wouldn't nor(ally us Retort unless i have l!ss than 2 party members (or 3) and at that time Sabin's Aur bolt a*d pummel should be counted as hxgh level skill (even th;ugh it (sn't) since it does so muchddamage wacko.gif
