Thumbnail: [http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/SandWormThumb.JPG] Media used: Clay & Glaze Comments: Well, the Clear Glaze dripped and ran beneath the worm, so it ended up sticking in the Kiln. To get it out, it was broken into two plus 10,000 pieces. I superglued the good pieces together (as well as the tube to my finger) and I haven't seen what was supposed to be the tail. It was cool. It had the spikes and everything. Oh well. I also tried to color the spikes different colors, but it bled. The way it did looks kind of cool, though. Cool!
LOL @ pantyshot remark I'm assuming that you did this at school, because not too many people have a kiln. Have you also considered why it broke is that it may have not had enough ventilation going through it? (I'm a ceramacist, kinda) Some random air bubble could have been trapped and caused it to explode (doesn't one of the Sandworm family use 'explode'?). Anyways, I definately think it looks like the FFIV Sandworm. At what temp (cone) was this fired at? Clear glaze does have a tendency to run. Recently, someone in my ceramics class put clear glaze over green glaze, causing it to run, and it stuck to the kiln shelf (thus ruining her otherwise great teapot). It's great to see a medium used that is otherwise not represented in fanart. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" That is, honestly, excellent. Very well done. It resembles (at least the part that was recoverable) the original sandworm very well. I'm just sad that you didn't get to make the entire thing.
You know, come to think of it, I've always wanted to do the kind of thing you're doing. Art projects based on stuff from videogames. I just never got the chance, unlike you. Good for you that you can do stuff like this; use it while you can. Best of luck to your artistic work. ![]() -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! Quote (Kame @ 24th April 2004 01:05) LOL @ pantyshot remark Yeah, I figured more people would take a look at the pics if I put that. I was originally going to put a cigarette in his mouth, but my dad hadn't come down from Orlando yet, and that would have raised too many problems. Quote (Kame @ 24th April 2004 01:05) Have you also considered why it broke is that it may have not had enough ventilation going through it? (I'm a ceramacist, kinda) Some random air bubble could have been trapped and caused it to explode They get two firings - Bisque and Glaze. In Bisque, you can lose it because of an air bubble (even if the bubble is in the one next to it). In Glaze, you can lose it by the glaze gluing to the shelf. In both, you can lose it to the shelf above it falling. If it had been an air bubble, and during Bisque, I would have completly lost the worm (would have went flying, breaking and breaking against the other pieces). Plus my teacher told me he had to take a sledge Hammer to it to get it off. Quote (Kame @ 24th April 2004 01:05) (doesn't one of the Sandworm family use 'explode'?). Not that I recall. Maybe the moon ones. Quote (Kame @ 24th April 2004 01:05) At what temp (cone) was this fired at? I don't know. Over 1000, I think Cone? Quote (Kame @ 24th April 2004 01:05) Clear glaze does have a tendency to run. Recently, someone in my ceramics class put clear glaze over green glaze, causing it to run, and it stuck to the kiln shelf (thus ruining her otherwise great teapot). Yeah, that's what happens. When using clear glaze, you are supposed to put on a very thick coat. But it's always smart to put just a thin coat toward the bottom, or leave like .5-1 cm at the bottom without the clear glaze (underglaze is ok; you can even put certain kinds of underglaze on the bottom). Too bad clear glaze is necessary. It gets all the underglazes at uniform textures/shineyness, since there are so many varieties. Like my friend, who made this heart, and made half of it red and half black (she was mad at her boyfriend that day). The black was a shiny-smooth that kind of made it difficult to get your finger to move over it if you rubbed it (I don't really know how to describe it; It's like a sticky yet smooth pre-glass, I guess), and the red was very coarse. That way made the heart cool, but it's no good for the things I make. Clear glaze makes it all like glass. Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 24th April 2004 04:06) That is, honestly, excellent. It was just the part with spikes. No biggie And I'm not entirely sure I spelled "Bisque" correctly. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |
