Has anyone ever tried the SCC? I've just started one today using all Lancers as my party. So far, though it's a little tricky having no weapons in Chapter 1, it's a lot of fun. All the jumping is awesome. And the high HP is really helpful, too.
So, I'd like to know if anyone else has tried this and what class did you use and how did it go? -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

I've done this on occasion, mostly with either monks or ninjas, but it's pretty easy with monks (chakara and revive) but what i think would be really challenging is if someone went all like wizards or summoners, or calculators.... imagine the possibilities

Quote (Black0ut @ 3rd May 2004 17:05) this thread has been started many times. Funny, I didn't find it here after reading through five pages of topic titles. Yes, this has been discussed at other sites, but those sites aren't here, now are they? I have always wanted to try this but have never wanted to dedicate the time. I have heard that Archers are a good choice, IIRC. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I post on the behalf of Peter, my boyfriend, who refuses to register an account and say this himself:

There's an in-depth guide to the SCC at GameFAQs and a secret board for it (it's the Challenge board for the Atari 2600, as game boards for dead systems are used there for other purposes).

I checked all the topics before starting this and didn't see anything related to this topic, so I started it.
![]() My all-Lancer team is cleaning up. Having all five of your characters off the battlefield at once is awesome. Also, Poison and Darkness don't effect them because with Poison, you have to end your turn on a square so if you jump you avoid taking the damage. Jump has 100% hit rate so that nullifies the Darkness. And, now that I'm in Chapter 2, I have a weapon! And my guys went from dealing 24~32 damage to 80-ish damage! It's a lot of fun! ![]() -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

I've found that going straight character class works pretty much the same as it does in every other game where this is possible: using a warrior class makes it moderately easy, while using a spellcasting class makes it fairly difficult. You can clean up with versatile Monks or powerful Ninjas, but I can't imagine trying to go through the early and middle parts of the game with nothing but Wizards or Summoners, especially through some of the more difficult random locations.

I really dont get you people, magic attacks are amazingly easy to use. My current game, I have been playing with an all mage party, including Agrias and Mustadio. If by straight character class challenge, you mean using one class throughout the whole game, then, no, thats not what I'm doing, but if thats what was meant, then you'd only have 4 options, and Monks, Ninjas, Calculators, and Summoners would not be among them. But, I've gone through most of the story battles, as well as random battles, as either a group of 5 Time Mages, 5 Priests, or 5 Summoners, changing occasionally to add better spells to the group, and its f'ing easy.

Straight Character Class challenge also entails that you don't use skills outside of the job you chose. Therefore, you couldn't use Blade Grasp unless you were a Samurai.

Quote (Goobers @ 6th May 2004 04:22) Calculators are impossible... with 3 speed and no attacks at all, what can you possibly do!? There's actually two methods of doing the Calculator challenge: "The Impossible Method" or "The Crystal Method" In the first method, obviously it is very near impossible. In the second method, you are allowed to learn spells from crystals that enemy units leave behind. That would make it significantly easier, but still quite a challenge because of the 3 Speed. -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

It isn't impossible, as it has been done before, by a person whose screen name on GameFAQs is 'Ultimaterializer'. I warn you, however, it may be a health hazard, as he broke his foot celebrating after beating Balk II.
